I've been hankering for something horror, I mean really unsettling, in your guts horror. But nothing recent tickles my bones.
Even the classic authors like King are now cranking out derivative shlock.
Is there any horror written in the last 30 years that isn't shit?

Unreal's recent horror release is unironically pretty good. Probably better than most tradpubbed horror these days. There's a bunch of horror stories that have a classic kind of vibe, original concepts, and some actual uneasiness that is earned. KGB Agents is good in particular.
This is the weird tales homage right... anyone got a link to the free pdf they put out?

the second story about the cursed ship is awesome.
saved. Will read after work.
Pulpy shit
ahaha imagine reading discord slop couldn't be me
Good modern horror isn't found in books. Modern classics are SCPs, creepypastas, nosleep blogposts. Yes I know that sounds cringe but that's where the quality is if you're willing to sift through the junk.
Based I should've submitted
There's so much trash yes in on the internet I just want to cozy up w/ a hardback

fuck no
It's almost like you retards are all zoomers and don't realize that's basically what House of Leaves is.

House of Leaves is really based. Read that.
I keep hearing things but one OP called it out for being gimmicky and basically an artistic experiment with no weight.
Thanks, self pubs are usually lame but I'llcheck this out
Nah, it's good. Just read it. I really liked it, but maybe that was because I read it close to 10 years ago before the israelites on this board psyop'd us into thinking it was nothing but gimmicky when it's in fact a really solid narrative (well, for the most part, depending on how much you let retarded terminally online contrarians dictate what you like and don't like about a book). Johnny's story ruled, fuck all who think otherwise.
How can a book scare you? Just stop reading or close your eyes
The Fisherman
No. That's why the books have flamboyant books covers. Can't sell them based on the work.
Quite often the cover really does do an accurate job of characterizing the book it's plastered on, uncannily often in fact.
Ugh. Misery porn is the worst and most unsophisticated kind of horror in my opinion. Cool cover though, for sure.
Everything I've read by Adam Nevill is real good. Ritual is great if you want innawoods scared. Last Days and The Reddening also recommended.
More of a thriller/adventure story, but does have a bit of a horror vibe: The Descent by Jeff Long. (Not related to the movie of the same name, but it does take place underground.)
The Fisherman by John Langan. I didn't find it all that scary, but very entertaining and unique.
Urban Gothic if you want something retarded.
Just read Lovecraft.
I read picrel over a decade ago but I remember it being great. Way better than any of the adaptations.
phenomal digits anon
Thanks, but they really don't come close to my best.
blump
garth marengi
ZHPL is pretty good
I enjoy all this guy's books, even the short story comps
Behold the Void - Philip Fracassi
Dark Harvest - Norman Partridge
Goblin - Josh Malerman
Clint Smith - Ghouljaw and Other Stories
I know he is mostly 80s and 90s but clive barkers stuff is really good
