Is there a way to add a chain to a waistcoast without feeling LARPY?

Sup Anons.
I really like the aesthetics of a wastcoat with a chain. I think they make the vest itself more unique and adds up a bit of a flair to it. The problem is that they don’t really have a practical use in modern times considering that Pocket Watches aren’t being used anymore.

Is there a way to incorporate them in a modern day fashion?

      GENTLEMEN

This is why we are here. For this attitude. We wear what we want when he want and how we want, and to hell with anybody who has a problem with it.

Yeah, it’s called not giving a shit and wearing what you want with confidence.

Elegance and style are context sensitive.

Showing up in a 3 piece suit and tie at a social gathering where the level of formality is 5 tiers below is akin to screaming "I”m autistic, look at me" on top of your lungs.

Ironically, that’s what some autists around here tell you to do

Yeah, but to be honest there’s a threshold you can pass where if you just don’t care enough, people will accept it anyway even if later going "man remember that dude" in a mix of admiration and mockery.

Most people don’t have the amount of confident "don’t give a shit" to pull it off though

Most American funeral attendees wear casual clothes. You’ll see some polos and few dress shirts, but rarely any suits. If you wear a suit, you’ll probably be the person to do so, besides the departed. Maybe people have gone a little too casual.

In high school there was a manlet guy (5’5" probably less this was from eye) with long hair who always wore a full suit. Bear in mind that i live in a tropical country, and he still wore that every hecking day. He also acted very formal and educated.
Nigga i shit you not he got ALL THE GIRLS, like heckING HELL these girls that the entire building including the teacher are trying to bang this guy pulled easily, he was always around many women
I remember that people even compared me and him (i also had long hair) saying that he was the sucessful me

i went to a school event where they said there was a "formal" dress expectation. i come in a flannel shirt, jeans, tie and they acted like i was too formal. -_-

basically if you wear a collared shirt in USA you are "formal" or "overdressed"…
stop carring what other people think.

No one should be wearing waistcoats anymore unless they’re 70 and working at Goldmann Sachs. They went out of style again around 2016 and they’re cringe af.

      cringe

If you give a heck about whats "in style", you´re not suited for fashion, so kindly heck off.

Id say context. If you work in a fancy hotel, most can pull it off, but if you are walking down small town idiha going to work for the local pizza delivery, its a bit eh.
    Context is king.

it’s ok if you use a pocket watch. Watches in general aren’t really useful today they are just an accessory.

          Alright, thank you anons!
Alternatively, I thought of putting a chain to my wallet and storing there as well.

          • Anonymous says:

the wallet is a good alternative, make sure it’s small or it will bulge from the pocket.

don’t get it twisted, that chain was almost purely decorative.
It was trendy to hang all sorts of stupid shit on it, not just watches. Take anything that a man today might describe as "EDC" and there was probly an engraved golden version that some fop hung off his coat chain back in the day.
Pencils and toothpicks in fancy cases were common examples.

My wardrobe is easily worth 60k+. As cool as my suits and waistcoats are, I hardly ever get to wear them anymore post-pandemic, I’d stick out like a sore thumb 99% of the time.

Even pulling off a sport coat takes some serious planning in order to defuse the formality. So it’s high waisted denim, suede loafers, denim or rayon shirts, maybe a rugby and absolutely no ties or pocket squares. Also, the jacket has to be unstructured.

If you weren’t american and a clueless imbecile with autism and no sense of style whatsoever you’d realize that everyone everywhere have been bringing down the formality several notches because people can’t be hassled after wearing pajamas for 2 years straight.

Just look at Drake’s latest seasons and all the brands and boutiques usually associated with high-end classic menswear, they’re all desperately trying to go the gorp-core, workwear or military repro route because shit just isn’t selling anymore.

But sure, let’s dress like we’re at Pitti and look like galactic tryhards.

I’m not american and you sound like a massive insecure gay who cares too much what others think, fashion isn’t about blending in. Why are you even here?.

Honestly? If you already wear a three-piece-suit, which is already "outdated", you might as well go all the way and add a chain and pocket watch.

…and mind, I don´t mean that in a bad way. I love three piece suits, especially old-styled, tweed ones, wish I´d wear mine more often, and I actually do wear it with a pocket watch.

That being said, I work in a field where a bit of oddity is, if not expected, at least accepted, so I guess it might look weirder if you´re a banker or something similar where modern, unassuming dress is a necessity.
