The internet is basically a corpse and the comment Leif made about it becoming a "souped up TV" in his goodbye message is true. It's going to become just controlled channels. The Wild West age is over.
I hold out hope that LULZ will stick around because it's so useful to intelligence agencies. But on the other hand maybe it's truly advantageous for all human communication to be filtered and sanitized.
Imagine having all avenues of unfiltered thought cut off, slowly being sealed into a curated reality by governments and giant corporations, like Fortunato in Cask of Amontillado.
you literally are. Anonymity was one of the founding cornerstones of the internet. The very thought of putting identifying information, especially photos of yourself on the internet was considered lunacy in the 1990s. 2000-07 was still pretty good because smartphones didnt exist, censorship was almost non-existent, speeds had improved to the point that unregulated multiplayer vidya and media piracy flourished, content creation such as flash animations and early video streaming was done purely for the purpose of creative expression rather than raking in shekels, and most importantly, it was still the domain of white male first-worlders.
However, you could start to see the first inklings of the internet's normiefication during this era through things like myspace and livejournal. At least it was limited to retarded teens though. Once facebook blew up, everyone got smartphones, and third worlders started getting internet access between 2007-10, It was a hard and fast fall. Omegle was on of the many things that contributed to the downfall during this era. By 2012 any semblances of the "old internet" was long gone.

I still remember this in the very early 2000s. I remember thinking how it's insane that everyone was uploading photos and information about themselves online because social media, when it first started blowing up.

>censorship was almost non-existent
Gonna have to stop you right there, anon.
Early 2000s were a hellscape of angry teenagers moderating chatrooms and forums. This was back when you could get banned from a place just for having different musical taste from a certain moderator.
Free speech as a principle was really short-lived, lasted from about 2009-2012. Then we had GamerGay in 2014 which really sped up the discussion and lead to a bunch of pissed off trannies fighting against it.
stupid nagger i said 2017 because that's usually the cutoff point before the internet is usually considered dead and changed into the modern corpse we know now
Dont say that. If this place dies there's nowhere else for me to go in the virtual world. I've been on this godforsaken website daily since 2007, its part of me now.
omegle being taken down is crazy. people i used to see on there often would joke about still seeing me on there in a couple years haha. i guess it was already over when the LULZ tag got banned
There really isnt. Omegle and LULZ are only good because of the amount of traffic. Literally every single alternative has only 5% of what LULZ and omegle have.
Apparently some 11 year old girl from from Oregon was E-molested. And that was the tipping point for the site's admin who was tired of running the place.
I wish retards would learn to monitor their kids' internet activity instead of seething endlessly and trying to shut it down when they go on it to slut it up.
this, since when the responsability of the parent has been abolished? if you can't educate your kid correctly, just don't do it and especially don't make internet shit because of your own retardation
It's utter retardation on all fronts >too lazy to spend time with them, just hand them an ipad and call it parenting >too retarded and tech illiterate to block inappropriate sites and content, the dumb kid gets access to the internet raw with no condom >too retarded to educate them, teach them about values, inappropriate behavior and dangers >blame the internet for all of this
And you can't point this out to them because "HOW DARE YOU TELL ME HOW TO RAISE MAH KIDS!!!11!"

The internet as you knew it is dying, its aging just like you
it's already dead, ever heard of Dead Internet Theory?
LULZ is still here
because LULZ is one of the last places where it's still somewhat like the old internet before 2017ish
I hold out hope that LULZ will stick around because it's so useful to intelligence agencies. But on the other hand maybe it's truly advantageous for all human communication to be filtered and sanitized.

Do we really have to imagine? Surely there is a way we can bury them instead. Someway to switch places with them and place the final brick.
>old internet
>2017
topkek
>tfw you were called a newfag for not being on before y2k

I give it three more years
Dont say that. If this place dies there's nowhere else for me to go in the virtual world. I've been on this godforsaken website daily since 2007, its part of me now.

I give it less than that
I'll miss you frens.
omegle being taken down is crazy. people i used to see on there often would joke about still seeing me on there in a couple years haha. i guess it was already over when the LULZ tag got banned
Can you guys stop bitching and moaning and actually recommend good social media like omegle/LULZ?
There really isnt. Omegle and LULZ are only good because of the amount of traffic. Literally every single alternative has only 5% of what LULZ and omegle have.
>Is the internet dying or am I just getting old?
yes to both
The internet is rapidly becoming more and more gentrified. I expect that once war breaks out again, there will be mass waves of censorship.
why did omegle close off?
