No, think of it from the perspective of Plato's theory of forms. All American art forms are imperfect replications of the "ultimate" american art form, so we, as a species, will never create the ultimate american art form, only increasingly more advanced replications of the ultimate american art form.

Okay even as someone who likes rap, I think that statement is ridiculous.
There's plenty of better genres you could give that title to.

Not only is she wrong, but modern hip-hop is by far the worst form of hip-hop that's ever existed. Maybe even the worst form of music.

She said it at a 50 years of hip hop event so that that with a grain of salt. But basically, unless you say country I doubt you guys have a better answer.

      >I doubt you guys have a better answer
There is no answer, because there is no "ultimate American art form". The question is retarded to begin with.

there was no question it was a statement

The IMPLIED question being answered by her statement is "What's the ultimate American art form?"

      >implying Punk isn't the most influential genre of all time, influencing literally everything, even these terrible soundcloud reject rappers
Ramones and Iggy Pop were American and they pioneered punk, with UK punk only coming afterwards with The Damned

Yeah that was fun and all in the 70s but punk kind of died out and no one really thinks of it like "ah punk, as american as apple pie'. At least hip hop is more current

Hip hop would be nothing without jazz. Hip hop that incorporates jazz well is usually great (TPAB)

Hip hop can never be a way of life

That might be true but jazz isn't really at the cultural forefront anymore. I guess it can be said about hip hop these days but it at least makes more sense

America is a mental defective in steep and irreversible decline, loud and repetitive and infinitely stupid, so it is the most appropriate American art form.

"Ultimate" as in "final", sure. We haven't come up with much else of substance since then

Ultimate means a culmination. Film is the ultimate all-encompassing art form; literature through the script, music through the score, photography through the actual filming, performance through the actors, architecture through set design, sculpture with special effects, painting with backgrounds and mattes
