yeah it’s still cool because it mostly just looks like jeans. Most people wouldn’t be able to tell or care

Yeah, just don’t be a stupid and wear it with a bunch of workwear that’s all fresh out of the package. Selfedge and blue in green have nice Japanese denim. Brave star selvage make cheapade in usa stuff but its usually preorder only.
Stay away from LVC stuff unless you have money coming out of your ass.
Im fond of brands like pure blue japan, momotaro, samurai.
Also check out taylor stitch, leftfield nyc, railcar, 3sixteen, tellason, RALEIGH DENIM WORKSHOP
Oh and naked and famous, if their cuts work for your body, i always found them to fit kind of weird
Samurai makes the most interesting denim if you actually care about fabric texture and different weave tensions and weird shit like that

Thanks!! I always wanted a pair of N&F back then, best i could do was a too small pair from a consignment shop. ima check these out

N&F is probably the best value also interesting fabrics and designs. The other japanese brands have nicer stuff but they’re 2x more money.

+1 on tellason. they are a small brand but their shit is all high quality. unlike most all of those other brands, they will pay the return postage so you can feel safe trying out anything they have. god luck finding any other selvedge internet brand that will do that.

i disagree. i think unbranded are naked and famous’s 2nd tier trash. i hated the fit and the way they felt. you are better off buying hecking Gap selvedge if you need cheap selvedge so bad.

    >black t shirt
    >black selvedge raw denim
    >white common projects
ive worn only these things for over a decade. saved so much money. still look great! i only own one pair of pants and shoes and just have a closet of black ts

I wear a pair of Momotaros every single day. They’re so comfy and fading a lot
I want to get another pair to add to the rotation. Cannot recommend Momotaro enough

How often should I wash my jeans if ideally I want my jeans to fade like this? So far I’ve worn them about 40-50 days after a hot soak when I first got them.

Maybe after several decades in the sun, but the whole area exposed to the light will fade uniformly. Jeans fade the way they do because of abrasion: the warp yarns aren’t dyed to the core so over time the indigo dye is worn away gradually exposing the undyed core.

      those are just vintage fades
the rule is for vintage fades: more frequent washes, every 30-40 wears
for high contrast fades: less frequent washes, every 6-9 months or less (if you can get away with it)

You should also take the hint that self edge and super future hecking 404 instead of take you to denim forums

Nobody cares nor knows the difference.

It is generally associated with high quality jeans so the denim itself might be nice, however, raw denim is stupid, the "fades" make you look like a hobo.

Pre-washed jeans with uniform colors like the ones OrSlow makes is the best choice style-wise by a mile.

I have nothing against selvedge, but most of the times cuffed jeans look like shit, specially if they are on the slimmer/tapered side.

can anyone ELI5 what raw denim is?

I remember hearing about The Naked and Famous like 10 years ago but that was about it

it’s just old fashioned jeans that dye everything you wash them with. The appeal is that they’ll fade uniquely over time and the fabric is usually much nicer than normie shit

    • Anonymous says:

      It’s jeans that doesn’t come pre-washed.

      This means that it will:

      A. shrink considerably upon being washed the first time

      B. fade quite a bit overtime

      It’s basically cumbersome hipster shit.

You can buy high quality denim made with great fabric that is selvedge but is not raw.

Selvedge denim is cool in that it’s usually higher quality and higher quality is always cool. People can have some strong feelings about selvedge because it was real popular a decade ago and quickly gained a big following among those insufferable reddit types who take things too far and suck the fun out of it. Also zoomers for some reason have a strong aversion to anything other than light wash so to them raw denim is not bussin.
