Is music the most low IQ entertainment medium?

I saw this the other day, and the more I pondered about it, the more I realized it's completely right. It's really just a soundtrack for far more demanding activities. I mean really, when's the last time you sat down and listened to an entire album? Or even a single song?

Every art for has the finacial incentive to discover the lowest common denominator to maximize appeal/profit.

Pretending music can't be high art, and that modern cinema/television/literature isn't dominated by pandering to retards is delusional.

Brother artists have always depended on funding from the higher classes even before capitalism as a mode of production was ever possible.

Turning music into a commodity isn't a good thing, whatever your reasons for it may be.

Bu why, though? You write as though commodities are a bad thing. Unless you have a special definition for the word, musical offerings are nothing but commodities put in place in order for the artists to make a living by providing what they do best to like-minded people who don.t have either the disposition or inclination to make music themselves, but appreciate it enough to want to hear more of it. There is no point in creating music and locking it away in a drawer, music needs an audience.

It's not right. It's actually quite retarded.

People made music before they had language. It's one of the most core parts of our psyche. It affects the way we feel and think more deeply than any other medium.

I'm more of a writer than a musician, but anyone who devalues music doesn't understand art, or more importantly themselves, since music is such a deep part of the human psyche.

No, that prize goes to novels. The worst shit possible. It's like reading the script for a terrible, low budget film meant to please critics. Novels, ever since ancient times, were meant to be enjoyed by the lower classes who couldn't get into proper literature like philosophy, science or poetry. It gave them a sense of value, of being better without making them put any kind of effort. Basically the same shit as today, no wonder the Roman patricians regarded novels as pleb literature.
The fact that most people don't know to this day how to consume music only makes music the greatest form of art. Music has a narative, but you have to hear it before realising what's all about. It's not an easily accesible art form since its nature is far more abstract and open to various interpretations. Music has the Math that explains the world we're living it, but it also keeps the soul of all living creatures within its shapes. Great literature is obsolete when facing great music since music reunites all the great ideas in books and shows the world the true meaning of written language using an universal vocabulary that is still not known by enough people, despite many claim to know it.

I'm as anti novel as much as Zappa was anti Romantic era music. He still listened to Wagner and Chopin. Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Giovanni Boccaccio were all great, but the number of truly good novelists is too low compared to all the shit that was written through history.

I have unironically thought this since I was a kid. Music is like a filler food, like a grain. It's cattle feed. A bowl of plain rice or a piece of bread isn't a meal, and if grain is the only thing in your diet you're either gonna be a lazy, fat retard or an anemic onions (depending on your body type and metabolism).
People who only value music as a medium, who see other artforms and go, "i don't get it", or are only able to enjoy the arts in their absolute lowest from (for example: marvel movies), are retards. And the reason shit like abstract art, corporate memphis, and minimalist decor have gotten so pervasive, is that the art and design world has figured out that most people don't give a fuck about detail, and just want the bare minimum visual stimulus needed to nod and go "mm", and get back to their Ed Sheeran song

I maintain that film is more so the pretentious fool's medium, at least in most cases. Viewers so often have to assign meaning to movies, and what makes them an authority? There seems to be merit in ambiguity as a filmmaker, which isn't actually... an achievement, surely? Plus, Hollywood has an even higher proportion of money-grabbing shit than the music biz.

Also, I think the difference is that music is all about feeling so of course he would say that as a more logical person. When the subject matter is thought-provoking. A good example is that movie There Will Be Blood. I despise Daniel Day Lewis' shitty accent and overacting, the themes and characters are so half-baked. I got the point, but felt NOTHING towards any of it. The brilliant music is one of the few things that actually left me feeling something.

I can't figure out if it takes low IQ or intentional ignorance to see how totally natural music is to the human experience - the ease with which we can fit it into our lives precisely because of how fundamental it is to our very experience as humans - and then confuse that with it being ultimately meaningless and secondary.
You might as well argue that language isn't important or meaningful just because we use language to mostly communicate information that isn't about language itself. What a completely idiotic, smooth-brain take.
