Is it worth being a trucker driver?

18 y/o who lives in Florida. I know truckers work long hours but my family wouldn't mind me being gone from home for long periods of time and I don't have a spouse/gf or anything like that. I'm not gonna lie though I'm really moronic and don't learn that fast so that's a definitely a disadvantage. Is it even worth being a truck driver?

Usually I would say to not consider trucking unless you have a couple felonies which keep you from obtaining normal work, but if you literally have a learning disability then trucking might be a good fit for you.

Go ahead. I'm 41 years old now and I started trucking at 25. It's good work if you have the patience to drive cross country. Made enough money to buy my own Mack at the age of 30. Also don't be scared of the "truckers get fat" meme. Just don't gorge on food like a complete fatass, routinely exercise and you'll be okay.

      >Also don't be scared of the "truckers get fat" meme.
      You must be joking
There are thin truckers out there and you may be one of them but understand that sitting for 10 hours a day with no chance to get up and stretch ever hour or so will make about 60% of the population fat as frick.
Fat truckers are not a meme you dipshit, just pull into any TA in the country and look around

buddy do you seriously think the average DAner doesnt sit for longer than 10 hours a day?
        it all depends on diet.
reevaluate what you're even mad at here, your argument is so insanely silly.

I was my thinnest when I trucked. I work at UPS now, walking who knows how many miles, picking up big ass boxes all day in the sun, sweating my dick and balls off, and I still weigh 20lbs more than when I was a steering wheel holder.

The problem is there is no routine. You’ll just go whenever you can and eventually after making zero progress because of lack of consistency, good diet and good sleep you’re just going to say one day “what’s the point”

18 is too young for most Class A jobs. Most want 21 minimum. Also Florida sucks for OTR trucking, much easier if you’re in the midwest. Florida has lots of freight come in, not much going out, so it’s hard to get home time or you lose some pay when you do.

it's ok, but you're way too young to pursue this type of career. nobdy will want you if you're under 21, and getting a cdl and becoming a truck driver is usually done by frick ups in their late 20's or early 30's anyways. otr is a TERRIBLE job. starting out as a newbie, you will unironically get paid less than fast food workers, and you WILL get fat. could make good money if you become an owner operator, but there is obviously a lot of risks with that. local is the best option with decent pay and hours.

In Australia truck drivers earn a lot of money and it's a very comfy job. There is a huge shortage of truck drivers. If you are willing to get up at 4am and work till lunch as a garbage truck driver you can easily make 120k.

            Bepis

No, hot shot dudes are often the dudes with the 3500 pickup and a 5th wheel flatbed trailer and you run random half size loads around, often it’s more of a regional thing so you’re home at night.

The wife’s father in law got a CDL and tried to do that shit recently, got his Dodge 3500 and a Big Tex trailer. I don’t know the full story but something fell through with whoever he was supposed to be running loads for and he got kind of fricked stuck with truck and trailer payments and no loads. I don’t even want to ask because I think he’s in the process of trying to get out of the loans and he’s sort of ashamed.

I guess the lesson is you should drive for a company first and make some good business connections before you buy the damn trailer.

            Bepis

Yea I gotta dig to the bottom of it. Like I said, I think he’s kind of embarassed. He used to own his own truck and route delivering medical supplies in Venezuela before everything went to hell over there, and he was stoked when he got his CDL and then got his truck and trailer and something fell through with whoever he planned to run routes for. But this is South Florida so I have no idea what type of shady Cuban hot shot company he got involved with, now he’s trying to figure out whether to do bankruptcy stuff, the bank took the truck and trailer back.
