It has a usable desktop client and group chats.
End-to-end encryption by default.
Only data it stores is the phone number, account creation date, and last time you pinged it's server. Doesn't even store your messages on it's server.
This is about as much privacy as you can hope to get using a cellphone.
I lacks features of a basic messenger like being able to add contacts to an existing conversation. Syncing to desktop is useless unless your contacs are also using it as their messaging app. The bakcup function is clunky. All in all it's pretty bare bones. But if basic messaging is all you need then it works. The privacy features really only matter if other people are using it as well, though.
Can I do this on iOShit? The sms app here has no spam filter, and with how pegasus works I cringe everytime I get a spam sms with a picture, and the thumbnail loads automatically, and you can't remove it.
For 'social' apps, It's not good enough be better than the competition.
The incumbent(s) need to frick up enough to make a significant number of users to migrate at the same time.
No one is going to use a new messaging app when none of their friends aren't using it and very few will look for alternatives when the current solution is good enough.
The few that do attempt to move to something better have an uphill battle tp convince their friends and typically get dragged back to the older solution due to peer pressure.
If you want to talk to normies, use a normie app like discord. If you need privacy, use an actual privacy app. Signal is a shitty middle ground that doesn't fulfill either use well.
Nope. You can create group chats but once that's done you can't add or remove people after the fact. I've never understood why people compare the two. Signal and Telegram are apples and oranges.
you can pirate shit on telegram? i gotta look into this
reminds me of the old days when you entered IRC channels and told the bot to send you some file. the speeds were way faster than all the emule/kazaa shit
in current year, ive convinced enough normies to switch to it. i still use whatsapp to communicate with turd worlders. but everyone else worth a dang has switched over.
Security by obscurity FUD ain't good, anon. We can see you type in the PIN without any additional hardware - eyes are enough.
Signal is a placebo in this zero click drive by infection timeline
I pulled most my family and friends to use it. Now all of them are on it. You have to have some social influence in the US to get people to use it. Overseas I heard it's more common.
NFTs ruined people's perception of smart contracts and crypto in general. It's seen as a scam by most people. Making a messenger app that integrates so tightly with crypto is a really bad idea for mass adoption. I used Session and it's a really nice looking app but missing a few features
I like using it as my SMS app simply because it has a clean interface and no extra bullshit, finding someone that's actually using signal too is just a bonus
needs more comfort cleaning up files (sort by size through all chats etc), on ios you can straight up never export or take your history to another device. also the electron desktop client is a pain
Signal was okay, but exporting your messages to another app is a bit of pain. Had to get another app to make the exported file into another filetype that other messaging apps could import.
Messaging apps (like other forms of social media) are only used for talking to people that you give something of a damn about. If the people aren't there, you don't use them because the value proposition is in the people you can communicate with.
It's simply not a pure tech thing.
>is good
What is it good at?
Being useless
It has a usable desktop client and group chats.
End-to-end encryption by default.
Only data it stores is the phone number, account creation date, and last time you pinged it's server. Doesn't even store your messages on it's server.
This is about as much privacy as you can hope to get using a cellphone.
>Location: Mountain View, CA
In America no one uses it, but in Europe I've noticed more and more people using it. You ust have to message anyone that has it already with it.
I use it as the default sms app
don't care if people use it or not that way
>I use it as the default sms app
Any benefits over the stock app?
unified backup of all messages
otherwise? don't think there is.
but I haven't found any downsides either.
I lacks features of a basic messenger like being able to add contacts to an existing conversation. Cant schedule a message either
its mostly third worlder uses 3rd party messenger
This is useful, but I wish that there was an option to make group chats that require using signal
Can I do this on iOShit? The sms app here has no spam filter, and with how pegasus works I cringe everytime I get a spam sms with a picture, and the thumbnail loads automatically, and you can't remove it.
>needs phone number
it's shit, use session instead
What's wrong with that, chud?
How is that different than telegram for example?
encrypted conversations by default
For 'social' apps, It's not good enough be better than the competition.

When they add stories feature its over for WhatsApp trust me
Who really uses stories on WhatsApp though?
Family. Couldn't convince my mom to use Signal just because there wasn't a stories feature.
That's a first. Most boomers I know use Facebook for that.
>talks about privacy
>demands your phone number
No thanks, glowie. I'll stick to matrix.
>requires phone number
>good
It's default e2ee and collects almost no information on you. The phone number is a small price to pay for it actually being usable for most people.
A small price that hinder all privacy efforts.
If you want to talk to normies, use a normie app like discord. If you need privacy, use an actual privacy app. Signal is a shitty middle ground that doesn't fulfill either use well.
no thanks
they said they were working to remove phone numbers, I was gonna use it then. But they haven't.
Signal = MOSSAD
i never got why telegram is more popular
Because it's a full on chat room app with tons of normie freindly quality of life features.
i mostly use it for news, i sub to a few channels
does signal not have signal channels like telegram?
Nope. You can create group chats but once that's done you can't add or remove people after the fact. I've never understood why people compare the two. Signal and Telegram are apples and oranges.
Never used it, but I think there's some huge chatrooms with bots that automate piracy stuff.
you can pirate shit on telegram? i gotta look into this
reminds me of the old days when you entered IRC channels and told the bot to send you some file. the speeds were way faster than all the emule/kazaa shit
I just force people to use it by saying that I will not respond in any other way. Have forced my whole family to switch to it.
Not like anyone wants to contact you anyway lmao
How are the video calls on Signal?
absolutely fine in my experience
is it dead now that he's gone?
no
My friends and I moved our group chat off WhatsApp to Signal
>Still can't import my SMS and MMS messages without using a tool off github that loses half of them
Matrix is better
in current year, ive convinced enough normies to switch to it. i still use whatsapp to communicate with turd worlders. but everyone else worth a dang has switched over.
>Usernames soon
https://signal.org/blog/building-faster-oram/

Meds
Is that all of the wit you can scrap together?
I pulled most my family and friends to use it. Now all of them are on it. You have to have some social influence in the US to get people to use it. Overseas I heard it's more common.
https://github.com/oxen-io/session-android
You posted the wrong app OP
session is written by the israelites to steal your personal data to sell it with their shitcoin
NFTs ruined people's perception of smart contracts and crypto in general. It's seen as a scam by most people. Making a messenger app that integrates so tightly with crypto is a really bad idea for mass adoption. I used Session and it's a really nice looking app but missing a few features
>no one use it
Where is the /soc/ for signal
>posting your phone number on IQfy
I use signal to talk to friends, not to exchange penis photographs.
you're wasting the potential of the app
SO I HEARD YOU USE MOBILECOIN GUISE
I like using it as my SMS app simply because it has a clean interface and no extra bullshit, finding someone that's actually using signal too is just a bonus

>good
lol, no.
>which is better
not telling, stay mad
OP didnt ask for a better app, silly
if i wanted to communicate in private i would use a fricking carrier pigeon moron.
