Is getting unemployment compensation legit?

I'm a 24yo and I've been working since 17
I only had 2 jobs (3 if you count me going back to my first job). And I've never been unemployed for more than a month between jobs.
Current don't have a job for more than a month now. Due to college and helping out in a family buisness which I'm not getting paid exacly but it helps pay the bills.
And recently after helping an ex manager with a ride home. They told me that I should try and get unemployment compensation as to avoid getting broke with my current situation.

Has anyone tried this? I always though it was a disability thing, but if anyone can get it, then what should I be aware of if I go through with this?

There's nothing to be aware of, you are unemployed (and are seeking employment, obviously) so you are entitled to support of the state.

      >should try and get unemployment compensation
You can try, but not everyone that applies gets it.

Compelling argument, but I'm gonna go ahead and ignore it.
Plus I'll be calling you a homosexual for wasting everyone's time. homosexual.
        >not everyone that applies gets it
Geez, and how could that be? Could it be that most of the people that are rejected are rejected because -gasp!- they aren't entitled to financial support?

You aren't entitled to financial support just for paying into the system dummy

Oh so I can just voluntarily quit my job and get gibs then right? Or like do something racist or sexually harass a coworker and get fired and just get free money, right?

This is clearly a sensitive topic for you. Why don't you leave this thread and let people who do know what they're talking about speak?
Take for example California's umemployment benefits eligibility rules:
                >Unemployed, and
                >Worked in California during the past 12 months (this period may be longer in some cases), and
                >Earned a minimum amount of wages determined by California guidelines, and
                >Actively seeking work each week you are collecting benefits.
OP is clearly eligible for these benefits.

Oh okay so definitely won't get rejected for voluntarily quitting and not currently looking for a job then? At least in California? Great

You know unemployment is paid into as a kind of insurance right? Most states will not allow you to just quit a job without proof of good cause and claim it. For instance, unsafe working conditions. Not school being to demanding. Keep spewing shit though genius im sure you know everything

I'm not counting on getting it, but if I do, I just expect getting a very low amount. Though I'd be happy to take what I can right now.

        Retard.

You get unemployment for being fired for an unjust cause, or for being laid off. Not for quitting, or for not working, or for being fired for a reason. There's other state-based criteria, but that's the basic qualifiers in general. You might be able to receive other support, but not unemployment.

Uh nononono don't you know! In California you just get it! You just get it anywhere cause I said so!

Here's a funny one though: Depending upon your state, if you work at a place for at least a year and work a minimum number of hours weekly, you can get fired for being incompetent and receive unemployment. So being a fuck-up who tried his best is actually valid. Not dereliction of responsibility, intentionally fucking up, or just not showing up, but being an actual brainlet fuckup will get you paid.

High pop high crime liberal states like California couldn't afford to clog up their court system even one additional iota every time one of their future homeless retards gets fired from starbucks. Literally cheaper to auto pay

I don't know about California, my information is specific to America.
