irreversible damage to skin

I 100% ignored all forms of skin care all the way though high school. Now around two years later I finally decided that I was tired of my face looking like somebody ran over it with golf shoes. is it too late to make up for lost time? or do I still have a chance to achieve good skin results. what should I be doing to try and get results? just the recommended? or something different.

No, it is not too late. By the sound of it your are in your early twenties, don’t worry.

    .025% Tretinoin
For exfoliation and increases the rate of skin cell turnover. Lills off the dead/old cells on the top layer of your skin to reveal a newer one below. Also can be used to treat acne. This however, makes your skin extremely sensitive as the skin is "younger". So completely avoid the sun, or wear thick sunscreen.

You can also use Differin 0.1%, as it is FDA approved OTC, no prescription required unlike Tret. Does the same thing as Tret, but different chemical compound and (tends) to be weaker.

Salicylic acid is another alternative, but weaker than both of these. I’ve used all of them before, so I think my skin is "immune" to salicylic acid.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA)/Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) also are other alternatives. Do your research, I won’t mention all the specifics because its too much to cover.

Do not use multiple skin irritating products at the same time.

Which to use? Depends. You need to see what works best for your skin. Yes, you may be disappointed there are no one-size-fits-all solution, but it’s the truth.

    + Moisturize
+ Don’t pick at your skin (no shit)
+ Clean face twice a day
+ If your face has permanent holes in them from picking go do CO2 laser (works wonders, also helps with fine lines) Physical solution rather than a chemical—can be faster and much more intensive.

See a dermatologist? I used to but I think they push too much products so they can make bank. So I just keep it super simple. Chemical exfoliant + moisturize + face wash (parabens, fragrance, alcohol free) + thick SPF 50 sunscreen.

Don’t eat fatty shit like fast food and sugar-loaded drinks. These tend to spike up your hormone levels, and because of all the growth hormones & antibiotics pumped into low quality meat —> increased oil production, along with faster aging –> acne, shitty face, wrinkles etc.

should i try tretinoin if epiduo (benzotyl peroxide+adapalene) isn’t working? been using epiduo for over a year and my skin has gotten worse

In my first year of skincare I had really bad acne. Went to a dermatologist, also prescribed me adapalene and benzoyl peroxide (also accutane). The acne would go away for a week, and come back, and I had terrible redness. So I just kept experimenting by myself by stopping using some products. I found benzoyl peroxide to actually make my acne worse, but I kept on using adapalene to alleviate the hyperpigmentation and redness. Acne got worse after stopping benzoyl peroxide, but I just stuck with it. Gradually (3 weeks to a month) I found that this has worked well for me. Less acne with more even skin tone. There may also be other products that can exacerbate your condition (wrong moisturizer, face wash) so watch out for these.

This is just my experience, and it may not be the case for you. Like I said, some products work well for some, but not for others. We all have different skin types, genetics, live in different climates, different diet. Try experimenting, but slowly. Don’t go overboard.

Skincare can do wonders for your self confidence, but there’s no quick fix or magical solution. Good luck mate.

Does any of this apply to the rest of the body? I’ve got stretch marks from when I was a fat ass and am curious if any amount of dermatology will help.

Very good post, only thing I’d add is a reminder to wash your sheets and pillowcases at least once per week. Common sense, but some stupids don’t do it.

Your body constantly loses and regrows brand new skin cells.
Takes maybe a month until every single part of skin on your entire body is brand new.
After you got a good routine going and healed whatever skin conditions you might have the constantly newly grown healthy skin cells will sooner or later be the only ones left.
