We do not live in the best timeline.

I know you're just memeing but the Brits didn't even come close to being a space power, their space program never produced anything of note.

Even the FRENCH managed to at least put a cat into orbit. Brits never made it off the ground.

Which country do you think made the Huygens probe and sent the first footage and audio back of Titan as it decended through its atmosphere and landed on the surface?
It was made in Imperial College, England

Which country do you think was a leader in deep-space radio astronmy, see Jodrell Bank
Where do you think the Headquarters of the square-kilometer array are based, see Jodrell Bank

I could go on and on

Britains contributions to space may not be as overt and flashy as other nations, but to say they produced nothing of note shows how little you know of the topic in general

I have no illusions about our lack of space capabilities, that's exactly why I'm bemoaning the fact that we're the only country to have ever cancelled its own orbital capable rocket.

americ**ts made going to the moon seem like it would be interesting but in reality it's just a bunch of dust and rocks and you're stuck in some annoying suit

Being trapped in a tiny metal can with 2 other dudes that is at extraordinary risk of imploding at any second that would leave your near-vapourised corpse floating in space for eternity just so you can see ... rocks. Sounds fun.

It was not at any risk of imploding at all. It may have exploded if something went catastrophically wrong, but that just comes with the territory of rocket propulsion. And you have a Black person brain if you need the appeal of going to the moon explained to you

I mean, I would go, but mostly just to frick around in low G. I think the novelty of being on the moon would wear off pretty quickly, because there isn't anything to actually see.

If you actually care about the science there's plenty to see, but yeah visually speaking, as nothing more than a tourist, endless grey plains of foot thick dust and craters and rocks would probably get old. Watching the Earth rotate in the sky would probably stay novel longer.

Just remind yourself that for every one of you/us trapped in a timeline like this there are untold numbers of you/us living in worlds where things went the way they ought to have gone. Be jealous of those lucky bastards every now and then, but be glad for them too.

The corollary is also true though, for every one of us living in a kinda crappy but not all that bad really timeline like this there are just as many versions of us living in timelines where the absolute worst things you can imagine happened and are happening all day every day. Pray for them, it probably won't do anything but it can't hurt and the poor buggers could use the help, even if that is just the slim comfort of knowing that other versions of them wish things could be better for them.
