Imagine you had 24 hours to download anything you wanted from the internet onto a usb stick before it was shut down. What would you download?

CRINGE
They have a lot of money
The internet is going down, it’s not the purge dummy!
All the hentai drawn by my favorite artists.
>All the hentai drawn by my favorite artists.
Just like what I did before nana.my.id getting shutting down
pirate vidya isos
complete arch linux mirror
classic anime series i havent watched yet
Some games
Assuming it’s a 1TB bad boy: it would contain a rom set of console classics through the GameCube/PS2 and 3DS/PSP (along with their emulators), GOG or DRM-free versions of PC games, a shitton of ebooks, Youtube channel backups like Forgotten Weapons and Dan Bell, Wikipedia offline, some hentai galleries off Sad Panda, and finally my folder of reaction images and shitposts. Music, movies and television would be sourced from public libraries.
Im still lokking for what i wang. Rdliable gardening/agriculture nonfiction matefial. Why "relixble"? Ive seen hundreds of ebook torrents filled with poor scans of photocopies of bootleg books with missing chapters and pages to not download anything.
If anyone had like, a known quality archive of greek classics or history or done non fiction i would save it all, i just havent been clued into a good source or ive overlooked it. I wouldnt be here if i had better access to materisl i could save or copy (libraries dont count).
The entire pack of MLP production files from Hasbro
I wouldn't :^) good luck
That's a loaded question, with a lot of possibilities.
For one if the internet was shut down permanently, then the LAST thing you should do is start storing all your data on flash drives with the sole intent on using that after the collapse of the internet, and possibly civilization and electricity. I would start saving the most important things. Basic books on survival, maybe occult books because it's a lot to digest, and I enjoy it, lots of porn magazines. A lot of books on farming and homesteading skills. Assuming electricity was still running I would start printing these. Basic books/most important texts in black laser printer so I can quickly bind them and get them sorted. Color for porn.
Presumably I'd have a bugout bag ready too that has water purifying and fire-starting shit, with all the things I need to trap and hunt. I'd take all these books and put them in my car and make sure I have a waterproof bag with me, incase I need to take them outside the car.
Really this is a question of circumstance, A lot of people live in big populated cities. I live in a town of 500 people. I think we would do alright as a community
How to seed plants would be critical.
If a town can kefp generators going for the water pumps then it eont matter if 10,000 lose power. Households use thousands of gallons of wster for bathing, laundry, cooking, even flushing waste. Even if your neighborhoods could carry that much water, theyll drink the lakes dry. I bet most surface water is not potable even after filtering. Its impossible to keep 10,000 alive sucking oil slicks with ~~*lifestraws*~~. A community survives by stockpiling spare pumps and generators at a scale for their whole towns municipal water department, in SCIFs or farday cages for disaster prep/safekeeping. Those are all big ticket budget items, we are talking about buying a parsllel water system and filter media. However at this scale its entirely possible and feasible to fund and execute this plan.
If youve seen dr shanna swan on big toe rogan then you cant stomach plastic, that shits over. Reverse osmosis? In plastic? With plastic filters xnd remineralization cartridges i have to buy forever?
I want an entirely stainless system for the whole house. Plumbers charge thousands. If youre going to have everyone install one, why not levy a tax and build a real water department? These policies are vorrect in their aim of clean water but need broader scope to hit their moving target
If the entire internet was being shutdown in 24 hours, and you only had a flash drive, you wouldn't use it and instead bitch about it?
If there was no internet you wouldnt use a pc. Games would bore you after awhile, same movies over and over till theyre dull. Instead youd sit outside and read books in the sun, talk to people and get laid since everyone else is as board as you with a small social pool.
Musical instrument.
390 days of food and water?
Rational wiki
Installgentoo wiki
Archwiki
Wikipedia
A few theology YouTube channels
Gutenberg archive
as many complete operating system images as possible, and commercial software cd images.
a rare porn vid ofc
nothing.
Assuming I have a 1TB usb and my current internet speed (300Mbps), I would download Ventoy, format the usb with it and then start downloading
>Fastest (less than an hour for all the list)
Ventoy installer for all platforms
Plop boot manager [https://www.plop.at/en/home.html]
Collapse OS [http://collapseos.org/]
Latest Linux Kernel releases (LTS included) [https://kernel.org/]
Latest BIOS updates for current hardware I own
Latest GPU Nvidia/AMD/Intel drivers for all platforms or at least Windows
My government public document archive, which have the Constitution and pretty much all laws.
My personal documents from OneDrive which are mostly PDFs of official documents, IDs and other kind of files.
>Average (1~3 hour(s) for all the list)
Latest Kiwix images in three languages [https://www.kiwix.org/en/]
Offline translator with multiple language files [https://www.argosopentech.com/]
Stable diffusion offline installer with various models to generate content without internet [https://github.com/camenduru/stable-diffusion-webui-offline]
OpenStreetMap data extracts from all the world [https://download.geofabrik.de/]
>Longest (4~14 hours for all the list)
Latest Windows 10/11/Server/LTSC English builds with latest Microsoft Update offline files
Latest RHEL/Fedora releases, their git repos and most EPEL/RPMFusion packages to install offline on computers, realistically, I wouldn't have time to downloading as many distros as possible (Arch, Debian, Slackware, Gentoo, BSDs) and their repos, so I would focus on RHEL/Fedora only.
Lurk and save as websites for their info or useful html/css templates.
>Wouldn't
Copyrighted media, considering the internet shuts down doesn't mean media distribution falls, we could still have CDs, DVDs, BDs, acetates, and other offline distribution formats, and considering we could still use USB storage and hard drives we could just pay for digital copies, same for games. Deeper changes would take place but that would be outside topic.
I'm more concerned about people listing things they should already have downloaded.
What are you waiting for?
Just download it, you fucking idiots.
All of wikipedia, I guess?
It would be far too large for a single USB. I'd get as many external hard drives as possible to complete the job. I doubt it'd be doable within 24 hours, but fuck it.
It's about 90 gigs, anon.
That's incredible. I might go download it right now onto a hard drive I have, just for the hell of it.
Yeah its on kiwix, was able to look up the current ukraine war but not sure where the cutoff point was.
Good post.
Planned on streetmaps, did not know about translator and did not consider SD, since I dont play with it already.
How power hungry is SD offline?
Also, why RHL in particular, is there any advantages in offline or just personal preference?
I also would do the project gutenberg zim, its like 70 gigs for 60,000+ public domain books.
Neovim and maybesome preferred plugins.
This was a topic I started wondering about, I already have a lot of media ready.
Is there a good way to do a snapshot of the entire OS as well, to put it on a new machine?
An assortment of OS ISOs and bootable repair toolkits. Maybe every MIDI file available, so I could repopulate the pop music catalog once we rebuild.
this video
that's a good starting point, should be all you need to get you started on the sneakernet market afterwards
Some games to play with friends over the LAN.
How long is it being shutdown for or dont we know? If i had advanced knowledge and it was to be shutdown for a long time, probably a shitload of ebooks from libgen and elsewhere.
Books. Terabytes of programming books. I would then rebuild the internet and make it exclusively for porn.
Given instant download speed and unlimited storage capacity:
-emulators + good games for them, which includes dosbox + dos games
-my favorite games
-all TV shows I enjoyed and want to continue to watch but haven't been through
-all good movies
-programming languages, tutorials and examples to program my own shit
-let's plays I enjoyed to watch
-informative content (pdf, text, video) that's good to have
-backups of various OS's and useful software for them
-various drivers for the same software in case something requires a specific downgrade version
-all of the internet memes, cat images and other cute animals stuff
-fails compilations
-people are awesome compilations
-all kinds of documentaries that aren't trash or a waste of time
-informative videos about content other people would most likely find boring: physical properties of various materials; examples of different architecture styles along with the story around them; why what materials are used for what with the ups and downs of it and alternatives as well as things that have been tried to improve the downs or get rid of them (both successful and unsuccessful); great inventions and what people supported them (position in society, world view, personal wealth, social connections, education) opposed to those that tried the opposite; documentaries of all crimes: where they happen, under which circumstances, by what kind of people; what religious wars meant for the economy and education of the countries affected by them; research why animals have a character but some lack an understanding of their own body (confused by a mirror and/or inner self); a microplastics contaminated world - what changes to expect and if there are any solutions to this; forms to generate energy, their costs, required knowledge, materials, personnel, ups and downs (short- & long term); how different types of proteins and oils interact with the human body; to what life expectations are tied to; cancer risk factors +/-
