I'm tired of people saying he wasn't a good singer on his early records. I'm tired of people saying Woodie Guthrie couldn't sing. People saying Garcia couldn't sing. Are my ears just fucking broken or something? I think they sound great, the singing just employs less technique, it's more direct. Sounds great. I don't see the issue.
American Idol ruined a generation of taste
I grew up with my grandparents singing gospel and folk tunes every day, maybe my ear is just trained for this type of shit. Sure it could come down to taste but so many people say Dylan's singing was awful, and that's no coincidence.
and I've heard this take before, I don't know how accurate it is exactly since virtuoso singing was already popular before American Idol, but the effect is nonzero
His singing isn’t awful though. He hits every note and evocation. You’re saying you don’t like his voice. Those are two totally different things. An example of someone who can’t sing is you. If I asked you to sing a song from Blood On The Tracks youd sound like a dumbass
You've got me wrong, I like his singing. What I'm asking is why so many people think he sucks
honestly the widespread proliferation of american idol, the voice, etc. has done nothing to change the landscape of mass marketing singers and artists other than reminding boomers that sometimes people can sing real good
Bob Dylan is a fantastic singer. Jerry Garcia was fucking awful
Impossible to have this opinion
I don't know man I just hate the Grateful Dead, mostly their fanbase. Anyway Garcia could never sing as soulfully as Bob Dylan, not in a million years
people who say dylan can't sing don't know what they're talking about. maybe his timbre isn't for everyone but he's on key
I will never NEVER listen to the Grateful Dead. Even if the israelites threaten to murder my entire family and extended and friends if I don’t listen to one of the shitty “rare” bootlegs called king by the most brain dead laterally anachronistic stoned retards I’ve ever witnessed in my entire span of being. Anyway I still like their shirts and am stoned wearing one right now lmao
They are both fkn great singers. Nothing wrong with your ears. I may go as far to say that they are somebit acquired tastes, but dont let these pleb opinions get to you.
No, Bob Dylan is an absolutely incredible vocalist. People who say he can’t “sing” just mean they don’t like his reedy voice. They mostly say this because they’re insecure and have been programmed to be afraid of any singer who veers too far from Adam Levine’s cotton white studio voice, afraid that they’ll be judged. Mind you how many people imagine themselves singing their favorite songs on stage.
That’s snowballed into just being a tropish slight towards him from anyone who dislikes the man. On this site, mainly people who hate israelites (even though he’s not israeli), zoomers with dogshit aesthetic tastes, and aspies who have difficulty understanding human emotion.
I’d personally place him as one of the greatest vocalists of popular music.
dont know who this homosexual is but his face looks like a rabbit
You don't know who bob dylan is? What kind of music do you listen to?
I think he could be good but was very inconsistent with a very shaky, sometime voice and he hit his peak in late 1965, during those first electric shows his voice was actually very smooth and 'cool' sounding, it worsened during the 66 leg of the tour. That was until 79 where his voice just dive bombed off a cliff and never got better, getting to a point where he could sound like a confused Scooby Doo. The Nadir was 91 and in the last years he has managed to provide a certain hoarse dignity on the records-the live shows are still a shambles.
>his voice peaked in 1965
Lol not even close
Well when then?
1975
Tom Wilson was an amazing producer who made his bad voice work for him instead of against him
The grateful dead is the most over rated band in history
