I'm sure most of you have seen the quote in pic related before, but I'm wondering if you all have any recommendations for books that explore this idea? I've always been intrigued by the idea that we've basically explored and catalogued most of the earth (excluding the oceans, but even those we have mapped out, we just haven't physically been there). There are no big mysteries for the average person, no more adventurers, no more explorers, and even on the off chance it hasn't been explored everything is owned by someone. Even Antarctica is split between various governments and only approved scientists can work there, like science itself has been corporatized and bureaucratized.

Hope that didn't seem too rambly, but any books that explore themes like that?

Honestly, SpaceX is doing the space exploration shit right now. Mars is possible within the century and there will be a new moon mission within the decade
Exploration and adventure isn't dead yet and we haven't even explored the ocean yet fully...

Scientific discoveries about earth and space happen every day
      >NNNOOOOOO N-NOT BORING STUFF!! BORING STUFF DOESN’T COUNT!!
New species, new history, new inventions, and new images of the galaxy are not boring
      >B-BUT I WANT TO SEE THE WORLD AND SAIL ON LE SHIP!!
Nothing is stopping you. I myself work at sea. I’ve sailed all over the east coast, Europe, and Southeast Asia. I’ve even dealt with terrorist/pirates. I’ve had an awesome life but you all probably think it’s shit because I wasn’t the le first to sail somewhere.
      >NOOOOOO BUT I WANT TO LE EXPLORE NEW PLACE AND FIND NEW THINGS
There is still undiscovered tribes in the Amazon. Nothing is stopping you from going there
      >B-BUT IT’S… LE EXPENSIVE!!!!
And you think it wasn’t in the age of exploration. Dull people live dull lives.

why are you accepting yourself to be an average person?

Gather some cash and go to antarctica with a few buddies. Surely you will discover something.

Or just go to the mountains, i promise you you won't feel this when up on a mountain.

This one gets to me because I just had a birthday and it struck me that I’ve more or less wasted the first chapter of my adult life by doing the things everyone tells you to do.

Dull people. The child who wanders into the woods behind his house and finds farming equipment from fifty years ago is more of a man than any of you will ever be. You aren’t actually in love with adventure or exploration, you want it handed to you in a Disney ride.

You don’t understand. It’s not so much that an adventurous life is desired as much as an adventurous life while young is desired. If you’re no longer young, it means nothing.

Vespucci worked on a farm until his 40s. Frick off, there are plenty of people who found success later in life. How old are you that you think it’s not too late to fix yourself? Most people live to 70 or 80 now, you have all the time in the world.

I don't know of any books that are explicitly in agreement with that idea but lots of Lovecraft's horror stuff clearly draws from a similar sentiment. It's more of a reaction to that idea, though, rather than agreeing with and exploring it.

Does the thought that one man has seen something before you make it less valuable?
There is nothing stopping you from exploring the Earth. Your first time in a forest or on a mountaintop or under the waves won't be affected by the people who have been there before.

Yes. Humanity's greatest strength is the accumulation and retention of knowledge across generations. By treading "old ground" you may add to your personal experience, but concerning the collective you provide- at best- a slightly different perspective on an already known topic.

Adventure exists, you need only seek it. Only a fool would sum the ocean and the mountains as discovered and explored without ever having ventured himself. There is terror, there is beauty. Go find, anon. Feed your soul.

The society we live in makes it exceedingly difficult to find adventure lifestyle. The only obvious options available to you are military deployments and leisure tourism. The sort of work that a century ago might’ve taken you on the open sea or into foreign land is now done from a cubicle behind a computer screen via e-mail.

        Anonymous

Adventure need not be a lifestyle. You do not need to live to climb mountains to climb a mountain, you do not need to live to walk forest paths to walk forest paths. If you live in an urban environment, I assure you there are a host of abandoned buildings within your grasp that you might shatter a window and see the decayed history of. Adventure comes to those who seek it, those who risk. To say you need a lifestyle incorporating adventure to adventure means only that you do not want to experience it for its own sake. Instead you have some romanticized notion that your life would be much improved by being full of that which you are unwilling to seek for its own sake.

Find it. It exists, it's up to you to seek it, in back alleys and in abandoned homes on the outskirts and in construction sights abandoned for the day. Find it.

    >There are no big mysteries for the average person
And why do they have to be "big" mysteries? Why can't you just go and explore the world on your own? Who gives a shit if most things have been cataloged and recorded? Do YOU know anything first hand, rather than things you read in a book or seen on the internet? Life is about experiencing new things that are new to you, not to the world. And who knows what groundbreaking things you will discover in the process?

Because he's a borderline NPC. It "doesn't count" as a big mystery unless some authority tells him it's a big mystery. What's amazing about it is he's posting this drivel on literally the bleeding edge forefront of internet culture, the literal wellspring of every internet meme which flows downriver to the plebs, and he's entirely uninterested in that. He could be getting ripped, getting rich, getting informed, learning about japanese media, learning about tech, photography, origami, boardgames, video games, and untold amounts of homosexualry, both literal and figurative. But his eyes just glaze over as he habitually clicks on "IQfy - Literature" and b***hes that he's not suffering from smallpox in the 1500s nor living in a metal tube surrounded by billions of cubic kilometers of nothing while he waits years to arrive at a lifeless chunk of rock around a foreign star.

Being uninterested in internet culture is the only natural response once you realize that it is in fact not culture but a phenomenon of fakeness and that some time in the not so distant future, everything that happened which was done mainly online will vanish like it never even happened. The internet age won’t be remembered because there’s no way to remember.

You can still get famous, dumbass. In fact with the internet it's easier than ever. And if you're such a loser you can't do anything original you can at least spend a lot of money making statues of yourself and leave them lying around. By the way, just so you're aware, because I know you're too stupid to figure this out for yourself, but desiring fame is 100% a sign of double digit IQ.

Maybe a bit of an unrelated question and only the anonymous who understand will understand, how exactly did Vespucci proof that America is in fact not Asia?

      Anonymous

America is, in fact, Asia. The idea that it isn't is a Freemasonic myth spread to justify the colonization of half of the Eurasian landmass and the entire nation of Cathy while convincing people the world isn't flat. The Cherokee literally wear turbans, and totem poles are still found in Tiawan to this day.

Wake up anon. History isn't real. The real borders of the world are the so called artic circle (great ice wall) and and a massive pit that cuts through Syria and falls directly into hell.
