I'm starting a new engineering job next week and they're giving me a 3000$ (cad) home office budget. Its a hybrid position so I need a laptop to go back and fourth to the office. I found this thinkbook but I'm wondering if there's better options for the money. I need a dedicated gpu, 16gb ram, and at least an 11th gen i7.

>3000$
>CAD
Might as well make your way down to Goodwill and look for something there.
What are you talking about? The cad (ergo the Canadian economy) is doing just fine. Our prime Minister will keep inviting street shitters to artificially inflate our economy for the foreseeable future so we have nothing to worry about.
They likely have a license for CAD. The $3k budget is specifically for the PC, not the software.
If you're being dumb on purpose, I apologize. <:^)
He's making a reference to the Canadian dollar being absolute dogshit thanks to our retarded ass prime Minister bringing in half a million street shitters every year crippling our economy.
The white race needs to be destroyed. He is doing canada a favor.
the CAD is artificially kept low to encourage exports since Canada exports raw resources. A currency's value has basically nothing to do with how good the economy is doing - look at China and Japan. Furthermore the reason USD does "well" is because its the agreed-upon petro dollar and acts as the reserve currency so there's demand for it all over the world. You should read an econ book at some point
>exports raw resources
Like uganda or niger
or Australia, or Brazil. We have tons of resources, not exporting them would be stupid (ditto for oil). China does the same. Japan keeps the yen low too so we're more likely to buy their goods. Your local currency being "low" only matters if you're not paid appropriately - and if you're not, try looking for another job, getting better skills, or just accepting maybe you're not middle or upper class. Them's the breaks. If you're making less than 6 figures CAD you're probably a bumpkin.
>or australia or brazil
Lol. Lmao
you smell poor, sad!
6 figures in Canada is the new middle class. It's a fucking joke. My wife and I make 140k a year and we live in a fucking basement apartment.
you've gotta make 6 figures *each* bumpkin bro
ask your wife's boyfriend to start paying rent, it's only fair since he sleeps over half the time
Asus studiobook 16 OLED will solve all your problems
dont get the Thinkpad workstations they are a absolute meme Thermals are horrible.
Good to know. Aren't the pro studios stupidly expensive because of the meme 99% srgb shit? I don't really need a good screen since it's gonna be running off external displays most of the time.
Lenovo legion
99% srgb is nothing nowadays. you can get it from fuckin IdeaPad pros. it's the 500NITS 100% DCI-P3
I'm in a similar situation as OP. What about a p14s gen 3 with Quadro t550
Get a standing desk, monitor, mouse, keyboard and speakers with that money. Or a KVM switch if you already like your home setup.
I AM DEAD SERIOUS
DO NOT BUY ANY MODERN "HIGH SPEC LAPTOP"
it's all a con, they'll always be buggy, they won't have enough power, battery will suck, it will be a heavily throttled device unplugged, type c ports are usually buggy/underpowered
https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/
find a mini itx, a mini itx case, a decent ryzen/intel, and any modern nvidia/amd card, anything 650w or above power supply
it shouldn't be a hassle to have mouse keyboard monitor at home and work, your experience will be way better with the desktop
how hard is it to build & setup a decent rig as a decent work 'server', for me to ssh into it at my local Starbucks? I'm thinking of going this route but cyber sec concerns scare me...
>thinkbook
That's a ThinkPad and yeah it's pretty damn good. Thinkbooks are dogshit.
>I need a dedicated gpu
But why?
