If this was produced better, it would be the best post-80s album they made. Gets too much hate IMO, but yes, sonically it does sound like shit.
say no more
If I wanted to listen to somebody cover Metallica songs I'd shove my fingers up my ass.
Not bad
Holy shit this is a million times better than the original. What's the story behind the production of St. Anger anyways? How could they fuck up so bad?
watch the doc some kind of monster. then it all makes sense
some kind of monster should be required viewing if you wanna listen to st anger. one of the best rockumentaries ever made, and it'll make you look at the album differently. go check it.
If it was produced "better" it would sound completely flat and lifeless. Case in point: has none of the energy of the original. It's clinical and sterilised, the complete antithesis of trash metal.
>complete antithesis of trash metal.
how bout i thrash your asshole?
please do
I actually liked Lars's trashcan snare clanks. It just needed to be turned way down in the mix.
i killed the boogeyman
>it would be the best post-80s album they made
The Black Album is in such a weird position. It's easily their most overrated album by normies but it's underrated by all the hipster dipshits like OP who can't appreciate the minimal subtleties of songs like Sad But True and The God That Failed.
At least it's not Lulu.
>be me
>love St. Anger album especially the St. Anger song
>start browsing LULZ
>happen upon thread hating on aforementioned
>snare.flac
>can't listen to or enjoy entire album now
I'm the weirdo who likes Lulu and Death Magnetic... I feel ya OP. I think my biggest complaint with this is the toy-drum sound. I like the songs here it's just recorded horribly. Granted, sonic tinkering is associated with metal on a whole and there is a place for it. But wow... that drum sound is the stuff of nightmares. Love Metallica regardless.
death magnetic isn't terrible. it was the first "return to form" from metallica. a lot of the songs sounded like something that could have been off of black album or load 1. lulu on the other hand is indefensible
>If this was produced better, it would be the best post-80s album
>If only it were produced better
>And then guitar tone was better
>and only it were better engineered
>And mixed better
>And the songs were shortened and tightened up
>And the lyrics went through more than one draft
Despite all that, it did have potential to be a cult classic. Too bad all the tumult surrounding the band at the time wasn't turned into anything other than a giant pile of shit.
Imagine complaining about the St. Anger drums when the drums on AJFA sound way worse. The St. Anger's problem is overlong songs which have maybe one good idea in them, except the title track which is unironically one of Metallica's best songs
>The St. Anger's problem is overlong songs which have maybe one good idea in them
This is a problem Metallica has had from their inception with a few exceptions here and there.
Metallica is kinda bad in general
it's supposed to sound rough. in the studio, they described their intent as a garage band recording their first demo, only that band in the garage in metallica. it almost acts as a prequel to kill 'em all (production-wise)
people talk shit about the production on st anger, but then go say AJFA is their best work. the production on that album SUCKS. snare sounds like a sheet of paper, guitars sound thin, no bass, vocals get mogged out by cymbals being too loud. it was undoubtedly their best album as far as WRITING went, but the production is doo-doo.
>donk donk donk donk donk
