if kpop is so popular as it seems then why I've never seen people listening irl?

Well I'd have to assume you (hopefully) don't hang out with 13 year old girls so that probably explains it.
Because it mostly appeals to male incels. It's popular the way hyperpop is.
its a forced meme pushed by a dying industry to sell more Asian shit to the west, no one irl listens to it
It's not that popular, it's just softcore porn for 7-14 year-olds, which is 90% of this board's population.
yejibros is this true
when I was that age I was watching actual softcore porn. how sheltered do you have to be to enjoy this shit?
You don't hang out with Asian teens. My nieces friends are all obsessed with it.
I seriously hope you’re not implying you’re Asian.
I'm not. We live in a place full of Asians and she goes to school with them.
Why does it matter you loser piece of shit lol
Calm down, Chang. It’s nothing personal. I was just hoping I didn’t share a board with any K*rean’s or whatever.
I'm obsessed with Asian teens too
kpops popularity is all an illusion propped up by korean government money. Its already hit is ceiling in popularity in the west and can no longer expand beyond coomers and fat girls who write bad fan fiction
Sort of like anime was then? Whereas Bong Jun Ho and similar directors are real artists with real audiances? I never would have guessed.
anime isnt propped up by the japanese government quite the opposite since a lot of the studios outsource the animation outside of japan now
this is correct
kpop has hit its peak, its only going to get even more saturated
its reliant heavily on fans mass-buying albums
a group can sell a million albums but get barely any streaming numbers so the actual people listening is only fans
If I worked for The Japanese Government I'd be working to de-insentivise it. 30% Anime Tax when?
>anime isnt propped up by the japanese government
You don't know Cool Japan do you?
Actually...
https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14774650
>A major public-private fund created a decade ago to promote Japanese culture overseas is on the rocks after racking up a deficit of 30.9 billion yen ($218 million) from investments that did not pan out.
>The central government originally created Cool Japan Fund Inc. in 2013 to support overseas sales of cultural products such as anime and Japanese cuisine, and saw it as a potential winner that could drive growth.
>But in hindsight, the project looked much better on paper than in practice and performed so poorly that different arms of the government are now at odds over its future.
>“Who talks about Cool Japan now? Korean culture took it over,” one senior government official said. “I heard that we are even struggling to sell Japanese anime overseas.”
United States of Muttmerrica are the ones who inflicted tranime and urbanism on the Japanese. They wanted to humiliate and emasculate them as much as possible just like they did to the Germans. They ruined Japan inside out. Kys low IQ typing style retard that posts too much.
astroturfed by korean government money
I'm Asian
because you dont go outside
It's not, this board is just dead. The current K-pop general only has 66 posters. The current Metal thread has 58 posters, the current classical general has 84 posters, which makes Classical the most popular thread in terms of individual users. K-pop fags just LOVE spamming and they often post complete nonesense just to inflate the speed of their threads so they end up overrepresented on LULZ. In the real world kpop really isn't all that huge outside of Korea, but it's by far the most popular East Asian genre/scene in the west, not that that's saying much.
sweety the current kpg thread has 76 posts, its also constantly going 24/7 so its more than 76 posters
classic thread has been up for 4 days
>its also constantly going 24/7
Yeah no shit because of their aformentioned spamming and samefagging, if the average person on the Classical general made 500 waifu posts every minute those threads would be just as fast. The point is that the kpop general really doesn't have any more or less users than the other "generals" here, they just make way more posts per hour, and thus become more overrepresented.
>really doesn't have any more or less users than the other "generals" here
people sleep, these threads last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour
kpg has at least 156 unique posters, that willingly filled in a google doc survey over the course of 2 weeks
>kpg has at least 156 unique posters, that willingly filled in a google doc survey
...right, because there simply no way someone could've filled out that survey twice. I'm going by numbers LULZ actually gives me, and the numbers LULZ actually gives me tells me that Kpop is not significantly bigger than Classical or Metal. Its roughly the same, just with more spam. And a comparable survey was not conducted on the metal or classical threads so it cannot be used as evidence it's "bigger" than either or those two, just that its users are more willing to fill out a survey. There can easilly be 156 metalfags on here too
>...right, because there simply no way someone could've filled out that survey twice
yeh just make another gmail account to fill out a mundane survey about your favorite releases that year for absolutely no gain
You actually underestimate just how autistic the average kpop user is. They make alt accounts on youtube all the time just to inflate kpop viewer numbers for their favorite bands. It takes mayne 5 minutes at most to setup an alt gmail account.
They inflate plays on last.fm so much it’s unreal.
LULZ users are not tweens from SEA who rent out lan cafes to watch music videos, most of them dont even buy shit
Maybe so, but I would still take a google docs survey with a grain of salt. Even if it is true that there are around 156 kpop users, thats not really that impressive. The average thread on LULZ that hits bump limit usually has even more than that.
>The average thread on LULZ that hits bump limit usually has even more than that.
no shit LULZ is one of the biggest boards on LULZ and nowhere did i say 156 is impressive
kpg simply has more users than the other generals on the board
you can say its spam all you want but if you had 10 people spamming in a metal or classical thread to bump limit in the middle of the night, would it still have 60 unique ips for everything thread like the 8 hour thread does right now? unlikely
>kpg simply has more users than the other generals on the board
Factually incorrect, it's just one of the big 3 (Kpop, Metal, and Classical)
And their spam is also factually quantifiable, the current kpop thread has 66 users, but is moving waay faster than the classical thread, a thread that has slightly more users, because they just post really fast. Maybe "Spam" is the wrong word though
>the current kpop thread has 66 users, but is moving waay faster than the classical thread, a thread that has slightly more users
the current kpg thread has 72 uniques, its also been up for 55 minutes
classical has 85 uniques and that threads been up for 3 days 16 hours
its safe to say the classical thread has captured every classical user thats wanted to make a post about it because of how long the thread has been up
kpg has 72 ips right now and its 6am in europe and midnight in america
can you say the current kpg has captured its users? most certainly not
>can you say the current kpg has captured its users? most certainly not
Yes you can. It's very obvious they just post faster than other users, you even pointed this out yourself.
its 6 in the morning in europe and from that poll 32% of the users were european
they are sleeping and not participating in this 1 hour old thread with 72 unique ips
whereas if they had posted in that classical thread, it wouldnt matter because its been there for fucking days
right, because the classical thread doesn't move as fast, because its users aren't posting as fast. it's really that simple
So you think if 10 people spammed in classical threads to reach bump limit, each new thread, even if only existing for an hour, would have 82 uniques 24/7?
Perhaps /kpg/ may have a biased population. Lifetime, I have known two males (my friend and I) who have known any kpop. We both knew at most a dozen kpop songs, mostly by Girl's Generation or IU. I know four female kpop fanatics who each know at least 100 kpop songs, keep up on all the latest kpop news, and know personalities of the various guys. I've been to kpop dance nights and those are 90% women.
Kpop in the US is mostly a female thing, from anywhere between 7 years old and 40.
>Perhaps /kpg/ may have a biased population
were on a weeb imageboard, of course its biased
from 2022-01-12 to 2023-01-12
>all LULZ
6,339,613 posts
2,142,700 images
>kpg
3,561,689 posts
1,468,096 images
>LULZ - kpg
2,777,924 posts
674,604 images
Kpop threads made up 56% of LULZ posts and 69% of images last year
From this we can conclude that between 50 to 90 people (average of about 70), 3,561,689 posts are made in a single year, so each individual makes 50881 posts per year
kpopfags are mentally ill confirmed
That's about 140 posts a day.
You don't know any preteen girls
bts are pretty famous but i dont really know their songs
because it isn't, it just seems that way through clever marketing and a small group of rabid mentally ill fans
It's so against the ear, South Korea used it to blast at North korea around 2015-2016
i have 3 kpop threads hidden
Has it ever occurred to you that we are just enjoying ourselves?
I knew a based boomer that would blast this in his car
i went into one of those gazillion threads to spy and i exposed them all as false flags. they're not even korean, they were all speaking normally like you and me.
it's not koreans, it's pedos infiltrating the board.
my girlfriend listens to it nearly exclusively but she's got the mind of a 12 year old inside the body of a 10/10 20 yo
Autism?
I bet a lot of people listen to it in secret. I as a male only say I listen to classical music when people ask me IRL but I actually love video game OST and kpop too
Kpop stans are very rabid, so they usually end up doing all the marketing and propaganda for the labels by pushing it everywhere they can (see lastfm top played songs). Bear in mind that 90% of the people who listen to kpop outside of SK are teenage girls or women, the rest varies between gay men and coomers.
Their YT videos are designed to mindbroke music listeners. Its ridiculously specific on member roles it doesn't feel music its main selling point.
music is just one aspect of kpop industry, it was never just about music. Kpop idols are performers and entertainers, not just singers. Kpop appeal is that it is music + dances + stage performances + livestreams + vlogs + variety shows + fansigns etc. Actually in 4th gen there is a huge there was a big shift towards dancing cause it can't be edited on a computer unlike the sound and voice editing for the music
>it was never just about music
I know. When the music is this bland and uninspired, I see why all those gimmicks are needed
yes, just people who play operas also need all those gimmicks with acting and shit because nobody would listen gamlet on spotify
My wives
I don't know if people listen to it, but they definitely don't buy the physical albums.
Any place that sells music has entire shelves of that shit, it's like the music version of Funko Pops.
they bulk buy, so they prefer to do it online
nobody is emptying out the target shelves by themselves and make themselves look insane
go outside you basement nagger
Because it's not (in the west). It's 45 y.o korean naggers paid by their music labels to shill it as fuck in the internets, yet obviously nobody cares and nobody will ever care, except a few trannies and a handful of 12 y.o girls.
It never plays on the radio either. The only BTS song I ever heard out and about was the one with Coldplay. The only place I ever heard K-pop was in a bubble tea café, so I think that summarises the target audience fairly well.
i am from eastern europe and i heard dynamite on the radio multiple times. my boss on my previous job watched blackpink - pink venom mv on the release day
you're not the right age
all real life sightings of kpop listening/fandom are from friends whose kids are into it
It's not that popular in America. It's the last thing left standing that is even somewhat popular in this rapidly dying music industry.
>It's not that popular in America
cope harder
it isnt, 1 big venue with 1 group isnt mainstream
theres a reason why groups book 500-3k venues and sometimes dont fill across the US
What about internet consumption of Black Metal? That seems like a an ar least million dollar industry of people who never actually interact and only listen to and consume said music online.
what about it? an industry can still make millions but still be niche
its simply not popular in america
kpop in america doesnt get mainstream radio play besides bts' english tracks
kpop global streams on spotify are nothing
you have kpop artists selling millions of albums but some of their tracks cant even get a million plays on spotify
idk
>bts company pays for playlisting for their new group to replace military service bts
what are you trying to prove here? newjeans doesnt have radio play in america, they dont sell out tours in america
1 group is 1 group, not kpop
because pussies are too insecure about their taste that they stay locked in their rooms
most of kpop nowadays is kinda meh, but exo and suju were and will always remain kino
