        this is correct
kpop has hit its peak, its only going to get even more saturated
its reliant heavily on fans mass-buying albums
a group can sell a million albums but get barely any streaming numbers so the actual people listening is only fans

          Actually...

          https://www.asahi.com/ajw/articles/14774650

          >A major public-private fund created a decade ago to promote Japanese culture overseas is on the rocks after racking up a deficit of 30.9 billion yen ($218 million) from investments that did not pan out.

          >The central government originally created Cool Japan Fund Inc. in 2013 to support overseas sales of cultural products such as anime and Japanese cuisine, and saw it as a potential winner that could drive growth.

          >But in hindsight, the project looked much better on paper than in practice and performed so poorly that different arms of the government are now at odds over its future.

          >“Who talks about Cool Japan now? Korean culture took it over,” one senior government official said. “I heard that we are even struggling to sell Japanese anime overseas.”

It's not, this board is just dead. The current K-pop general only has 66 posters. The current Metal thread has 58 posters, the current classical general has 84 posters, which makes Classical the most popular thread in terms of individual users. K-pop fags just LOVE spamming and they often post complete nonesense just to inflate the speed of their threads so they end up overrepresented on LULZ. In the real world kpop really isn't all that huge outside of Korea, but it's by far the most popular East Asian genre/scene in the west, not that that's saying much.

sweety the current kpg thread has 76 posts, its also constantly going 24/7 so its more than 76 posters
classic thread has been up for 4 days

        >its also constantly going 24/7
Yeah no shit because of their aformentioned spamming and samefagging, if the average person on the Classical general made 500 waifu posts every minute those threads would be just as fast. The point is that the kpop general really doesn't have any more or less users than the other "generals" here, they just make way more posts per hour, and thus become more overrepresented.

          >really doesn't have any more or less users than the other "generals" here

people sleep, these threads last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour
kpg has at least 156 unique posters, that willingly filled in a google doc survey over the course of 2 weeks

            >kpg has at least 156 unique posters, that willingly filled in a google doc survey
...right, because there simply no way someone could've filled out that survey twice. I'm going by numbers LULZ actually gives me, and the numbers LULZ actually gives me tells me that Kpop is not significantly bigger than Classical or Metal. Its roughly the same, just with more spam. And a comparable survey was not conducted on the metal or classical threads so it cannot be used as evidence it's "bigger" than either or those two, just that its users are more willing to fill out a survey. There can easilly be 156 metalfags on here too

You actually underestimate just how autistic the average kpop user is. They make alt accounts on youtube all the time just to inflate kpop viewer numbers for their favorite bands. It takes mayne 5 minutes at most to setup an alt gmail account.

Maybe so, but I would still take a google docs survey with a grain of salt. Even if it is true that there are around 156 kpop users, thats not really that impressive. The average thread on LULZ that hits bump limit usually has even more than that.

                >The average thread on LULZ that hits bump limit usually has even more than that.
no shit LULZ is one of the biggest boards on LULZ and nowhere did i say 156 is impressive
kpg simply has more users than the other generals on the board

you can say its spam all you want but if you had 10 people spamming in a metal or classical thread to bump limit in the middle of the night, would it still have 60 unique ips for everything thread like the 8 hour thread does right now? unlikely

                >kpg simply has more users than the other generals on the board
Factually incorrect, it's just one of the big 3 (Kpop, Metal, and Classical)
And their spam is also factually quantifiable, the current kpop thread has 66 users, but is moving waay faster than the classical thread, a thread that has slightly more users, because they just post really fast. Maybe "Spam" is the wrong word though

                >the current kpop thread has 66 users, but is moving waay faster than the classical thread, a thread that has slightly more users
the current kpg thread has 72 uniques, its also been up for 55 minutes
classical has 85 uniques and that threads been up for 3 days 16 hours
its safe to say the classical thread has captured every classical user thats wanted to make a post about it because of how long the thread has been up
kpg has 72 ips right now and its 6am in europe and midnight in america
can you say the current kpg has captured its users? most certainly not

they are sleeping and not participating in this 1 hour old thread with 72 unique ips
whereas if they had posted in that classical thread, it wouldnt matter because its been there for fucking days

                Anonymous

right, because the classical thread doesn't move as fast, because its users aren't posting as fast. it's really that simple

Perhaps /kpg/ may have a biased population. Lifetime, I have known two males (my friend and I) who have known any kpop. We both knew at most a dozen kpop songs, mostly by Girl's Generation or IU. I know four female kpop fanatics who each know at least 100 kpop songs, keep up on all the latest kpop news, and know personalities of the various guys. I've been to kpop dance nights and those are 90% women.

Kpop in the US is mostly a female thing, from anywhere between 7 years old and 40.

Kpop stans are very rabid, so they usually end up doing all the marketing and propaganda for the labels by pushing it everywhere they can (see lastfm top played songs). Bear in mind that 90% of the people who listen to kpop outside of SK are teenage girls or women, the rest varies between gay men and coomers.

music is just one aspect of kpop industry, it was never just about music. Kpop idols are performers and entertainers, not just singers. Kpop appeal is that it is music + dances + stage performances + livestreams + vlogs + variety shows + fansigns etc. Actually in 4th gen there is a huge there was a big shift towards dancing cause it can't be edited on a computer unlike the sound and voice editing for the music
