Anytime I want to look at someone's page on linkedin I open an incognito tab first. 80% of the time it tells me to sign in first but if you keep opening the page again and again it'll eventually load.

Linkedin is kinda required for the good jobs, especially remote. Your profile has to be optimized though and that dosent mean just having a nice looking profile. You need to take those skill assessments ( I hired a pajeet to take them for me). Recruiters narrow down their lists by these. Also, LinkedIn certifications act as a kind of SEO to your profile. Whatever keywords are in that credential you earned, a recruiter can pull you up on their list if they search for it. Do as many as possible. Also, you need Premium and a good photo. Honestly, this is the basics. Theres whole courses on how to game Linkedin.

Im actually trying to help you. Dont overlook Linkedin...its actually very important these days for the good jobs. I've been tinkering around for weeks and the recruiters that have been hounding me is amazing. Good jobs with well-known companies. It really is true that most of the good jobs arnt listed...

yeah but i dont actually have any relevant experience. i’m asking because i want to lie on my resume

            Anonymous

If you want to lie convincingly you'll probably need at least 4 fake profiles that are endorsing your main profile. Those fake profiles should have two endorsements each as well. You'll want to get each of those connections up to 100 contacts or so. Could be done in a few weeks.
I've also blown off many chinese recruiters, they are probably easier to trick if you want to work remotely for a chinese company.
What sector do you want to (pretend to) work in?

or he could just join an endorsement group or thread somewhere. Linkedin bans multiple accounts now. But yeah, you need at least 100 connections. 500 isnt though to get in a few weeks either.

I dont have any either, there are ways around this my man. Fake at least 3 years of experience. Project management, data science, business analyst jobs are very easy to get.

                Anonymous

you can get connections easily. You dont even need to buy them. start with LIONs, they accept anyone. Join groups and interact...a few connections there. So on and so forth

and what about fake jobs? how will that work if they see the jobs dont exist or no one else works there? seems overly complex

                Anonymous

use old closed businesses, create fake ones with nice websites, brand yourself as a "consultant" in your field. there are many ways around this.

no offense dude, but think outside the box. I just got hired last week for a 112K remote job and am hoping to get another one.

probably not a good idea to do this. If you do do it you have to be careful you don't put anything on there they're going to get you to do, otherwise you'll be exposed straight away when you start work, or even during the interview

It really depends on what job you're applying for

        Anonymous

If you want to maximize your potential it's probably true. Depends on your industry as well. I set up linkedin about 10 years ago and updated it like 2 or 3 times with relevant info. I always accept invites but don't post or interact with anyone that doesn't message me directly. I still often get recruiters trying to hire me due to the high demand in my sector and long tenure at my current job. There's also a flag you can set that you're "looking for work" last time I checked.

It depends. LinkedIn is loved by recruiters (and by users because the resume is RIGHT FUCKING THERE) so from an efficiency perspective, it does help. HOWEVER, it is not a hindrance to getting a good job if you dno't have it. You just have to go to the trouble of writing good cover letters etc. and filling in online applications manually. I've neve used it and I've never been penalised for it, career-wise-, but lots of my colleagues swear by it. If your sector is close-knit and centralised (lots of big city jobs are like this, with people moving from company to company), it can help because they people following you are basically people vouching for you not being shit. On balance, it's probably worth having but it's not a deal breaker.

I have a remote job, not thanks to Linkedin.
Not saying you shouldn't try using it, but it's definitively possible to make it by other means.
My problem with Linkedin is that most employers aren't posting their payment ranges. Even when you get into an interview it's you who must say how much you expect to earn, and if you say the wrong value they just won't contact you again.

Yeah, but I'd rather just avoid the whole process altogether, if I knew they aren't going to pay me well.
It's not like I'm unemployed, I'm searching for jobs that will pay me better, and many of them wouldn't pay even after negotiating a lot.

I'm from a low tier Euro country and I get offers almost every single day. God only knows how it must be in America where the non employment rates are basically 0.

Don't worry about having 0 connections. Just put a bunch of stuff about yourself (university and such) and people will add you.

Anon, just treat it as a job board and don't be autistic about it. I've never interacted with anyone on linkedin. The worst I've had are boomers boomerposting and some connections my age posting bug eating onions shit, which show up on my front page but you can easily silence individual people and, I think, topics. You'll have to learn to live with that with or without linkedin. Its just a part of living in a society. I don't even know how these anal retentive anons find all the psychos. And recruiters are nice too if you're not some super high performing autist, it means there is some demand for your skills and you're doing something right. There's nothing wrong with sending out a quick message saying you're not interested once or twice a week.
