I’m guessing you don’t have a job where you can wear a suit. Start regularly going to cultural events where a suit won’t be out of place like classical concerts.

speaking of suits, I have an interview coming up at a car dealership and they recommend wearing business professional attire to the interview. do I NEED to go buy a suit or will a dress shirt and slacks w/ a tie be good enough?

alright bros this is what I’m working with
      >burgundy oxfords
      >charcoal grey slacks
and that’s all I own right now. planning on going out to buy a pale blue dress shirt and a navy blazer if I can find one, because apparently a jacket/no tie looks better than waitercore shirt and tie only. will I get laughed out of the interview?

best I can do is charcoal grey slacks with a darker charcoal grey blazer, white dress shirt underneath. should I get a pocket square or not wear one to the interview?

            >charcoal blazer
            >white dress shirt or a light grey dress shirt with vertical and horizontal stripes

Always wear a suit to an interview. If you end up feeling over dressed you can just take the blazer off. It’s never a bad idea to show someone you can show up somewhere, on time, well dressed

I wish this were the case, but it simply isn’t if youre not doing a somewhat serious job. If you show up in a full suit or even a blazer to a grocery store or a Walmart interview youre going to look like a sperg

No hiring manager in the world is going to be disappointed someone showed up to an interview wearing a suit. Hiring managers aren’t hiring you for your fashion sense

        which is it

like many formal clothes it’s a simplification of military dress, which had many more buttons
      called double breasted, btw

It’s called double breasted, and those nipple protectors are called buttons, they’re there for purely aesthetic reasons, some double breasted jackets are only 4 buttons which don’t have the top 2. A jacket with brass buttons like that is also not a suit, brass buttons means it’s called a blazer, less formal and no matching pants like a suit.

      Go to church.

This, submit to the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church founded by our Lord Jesus Christ. There is no salvation outside of the Kingdom of God, the Body of Christ.

For me it was regular sweaters and jeans –> sweaters and slacks -> better shoes -> replacing sweaters with shirts -> shirt under sweaters -> sport coat -> suit

Warm people up to you being the well dressed person rather than going autismic 0-100 overnight.

The advice of "just attend more formal events/get a job that requires a suit" as a means of being able to wear a suit is shortsighted.
Once upon a time simply being a man entitled you to wear a suit.
Society is aggressively casualising mens fashions, it won’t be long now until the suit vanishes from ALL jobs, ALL formal occasions. There will be no occasion to wear a suit, so why even bother clinging onto such nonsense?

Just wear the suit, wear it whenever and wherever you like, it’s just clothing. You don’t need a reason, you don’t need to justify it to others, you don’t need an occasion or social status.
The only thing standing between you and you wearing a suit is the fear of judgement from others… others who are never going to approve of you wearing a suit no matter what you do. They are fundamentally opposed to your fashion tastes, if you care what they think it will mean you never wearing a suit in your life, so why do you even care about their opinion?

    Just wear the suit

Furthermore, you should wear a suit because your doing so will inspire others.

Alot of people like suits, but they are afraid of wearing them. They are afraid of being the one weird guy in town wearing a suit when nobody else is. So be the change you want to see in the world, when that guy sees you walk down the street in the suit, you may just give him the confidence to put on the suit himself. If enough people do this, it stands a chance of an actual resurgance into mainstream fashion.

The only people who are truly opposed to suits are old boomers who have notoriously shit taste. They hate them because their fathers wore them and they hated their fathers. Everyone else is just timid and following the flock, they don’t think suits are ugly, they just think opposing fashion norms is ugly, if suits become mainstream again they too will start wearing suits.

hey Doug. although I do agree that the man’s default outfit is a suit, completely agree we are completely justified in walking around in suits, doesn’t mean you don’t look like a sperg if you do. just go to Mass, you can wear a suit there, minimum of once a week, can obviously go more often than that if possible.

Go to the Latin Mass, Novus Orvo I sometimes even see people wearing shorts. In the TLM, women wear veils and the men at least wear khakis and a button down. Beautiful.
