This is the only way. If you're like me, you probably rarely listen to new music anyways, so it makes little sense to keep paying (or listening to ads) to play the same set of songs.

          >keep paying (or listening to ads)
do zoomers UNIRONICALLY not use adblockers?
i have seen or heard an ad on youtube or spotify in over 10 years. not a single one.
what drives a zoomer to just go "fr fr this 2 min ad is hot ah!!"

            Anonymous

I installed a modified YouTube app that blocks ads on my smart TV and my zoomer gf refuses to use it. She will close it and open the regular YouTube and when I ask her why she just says it feels weird without the ads.

They have been conditioned their entire lives.

            Anonymous

I was referring to Spotify, which I do not use. My understanding was that they injected ads into the audio stream, so I'm assuming it's not possible to skip them.

mp3 autist here. do it. after a schizo episode, I decided to delete every account I had on the internet aside from banking and a singular protonmail account. I used soundiiz to convert my spotify playlists into youtube playlists then used yt-dlp to download all of my playlists into mp3. I then bought picrel on amazon for like $35.
        >why not just use your phone?
a number of reasons I won't get into. I have roughly 3000 songs on this which are all backed up on an external hard drive in case something were to happen to the mp3 player itself. feels good actually "owning" your music instead of being cucked by services like spotify or youtube that require an internet connection to operate if you don't opt for paid subscriptions. take the mp3 pill anon. I'm a zoomer too btw and my peers do give me some odd looks but they're the retarded ones, they just don't know it.

To be honest, while I'm not actually israeli, it seems likely that I have been genetically bred to have VERRY similar traits (you are not the first to mention this). Some also claim that "they" control the music industry, so would this not be against such behavior as you describe?

Anyways, h<ere are some sources (which I legally recommend you stay away from):
            1. searx be's "Files" section may lead you to btdig com or other similar sites.
            2. There exists many qBitTorrent search plugins (which can be downloaded from a site like GitHub).
            3. 1337x to is a known piracy site, which I definitely wont recommend, because they currently have such a large selection of pirated music, games and other software.

I haven't tried Apple Music, but in my experience the YouTube Music recommendations are better than Spotify.

an algorithm can't detect or recommend music when it's making money off of suggesting artists that pay for exposure. An algorithm can't detect what your tastes are to begin with, it's arbitrary and just a matter of rolling the dice. Whichever is 'better' is irrelevant. It's just a diceroll. Go listen to music you actually want to by searching for elements you like; learn to search rather than pretend an algorithm knows what's best for you. It doesn't, it just got lucky it served you an ad you happened to like

        Anonymous

Not true. It's bad at the start, but the more you listen to the better it'll be at recommending things that's are of your taste. It's your own fault if all you listen to are top 40 bands. You need to make some effort to dig a little bit. But I've found some really cool stuff on Spotify on playlists it made for me that I would of never listened to on my own.

I was in the same spot. I downloaded a music player on my phone & download/rip all my music from Slav Art, and rarer stuff from Soulseek, Soundcloud or VK. I have all metadata & cover art, I've never looked back and happily share my collection with people on Soulseek. Comfy.

If you want an algoyrithm, use a music player that connects to last.fm, or just make an account on RYM. If you're worried about phone space, either buy a microSD card (if you have an android) or use a cloud storage provider. Cloud storage is cheaper than you think, look up storage.market

Spotify says lossless support is coming soon™ so we'll see how that pans out. I feel like 300kbps is a nitpick, if it was Pandora-tier or something with maxed out 192kbps quality then I'd understand, but not only does spotify have 320kbps support but it's on some improved lossy codec like vorbis or aac, literally nobody can tell the difference between that and a lossless copy unless you have superhuman hearing

Tip for non-paying anons that hate spotify ads. On desktop or phone, just close and re-open the app whenever you get an ad. Automatically cancels all ads and you can go back to what you were listening to. Takes about 3 seconds and beats having to listen to a minute of ads.

not really giving much to work with aside from no youtube lol

only real alternatives are tidal, qobuz, or storing it locally.

storing it locally is ideal. you can use lidarr-extended to download tracks from tidal if you have a sub. I mainly use spotify, but sync my spotify likes/playlists to lidarr and then have it rip the tracks off tidal if they exist there.

I don't mind paying for an extra sub because tidal's ui & recc engine is absolute dogshit but I still want local copies and don't want to bother letting random nerds leech off my cpu cycles if I can just steal it straight from unethical corporations

for local access it's really however you want. roon was super cool but cost money and refused to play nice with my dac - its recommendation engine is the only other music discovery service in existence that matches up to spotify, but it's geared more towards full albums than individual tracks

i settled on plex for convenience for remote streaming and fall back to that sometimes
otherwise, for a local client I used to use musicbee but it runs like shit so I just stick to fb2k lmao

Apple Music is the best allrounder when it comes to streaming music. It's better than Spotify in the area that is the most important: sound quality. The standard codec used by Apple is superior compared to Spotify's highest quality codec. On top of that, lossless is included in the base price in Apple Music. Apple Music also has a bigger library and there are some great artists that are on Apple Music, but not on Spotify. What Spotify does do better is music recommendations and user created playlist. Sharing music with friends on Spotify is also better.

Apple have always cared about sound quality, especially because of Steve Jobs was an audiophile. Their audio products are also good competitors and are good audio quality wise.

How big are your libraries? I have around 15000 songs it Spotify that would take literal ages. Even my boomer dad has probably 30k songs on CDs.

I used one of the GitHub scripts to rip my entire library from Spotify to local over the course of a month. I still use the free version on occasion for the discovery features and it's not too bad to pull new stuff to my offline store.

The only thing with Spotify is that if you only ever listen to one genre you will absolutely run out of recommendations. You have to broaden your tastes if you're going to ever find new music. Like if I only ever listened to Doom metal and only listen to the playlist Spotify made for me, I would think Spotify sucks because I'm not getting enough new recommendations. So you have to take baby steps outside of your genre and then you'll find recommendations that combine Doom metal with this other stuff and that's where the cool music is.

Personally I only dl albums I like/expect to like so I can self host or whatever but use streaming on the go or for anything I'm expecting to not be huge on. TBF 40% of my library at least isn't on streaming so if you've been on spotify for this long without issue there isn't a reason to jump ship unless you have an actual reason
