I was mainly joking to be honest, but I do love some late 90s tuners like mx-5, rx-7, skyline and impreza. played those NFS games when young and still think the cars look cool as hell, would never want to drive a car to be honest, but if I had to own one, it'd probably be an mx-5 because it looks both cool and cute somehow
Yeah, all these things were big then (mid 00s), but it was mostly the Impreza and Skyline seen as prestigious. NFS both knew what was popular and helped influence what was popular. Lots of 15 year olds were doing whatever they could to get one of these by the time they could drive.
There was one funny guy in my town who had a highly illegal PA system installed in his Skyline/Impreza, can't remember which, and you'd occasionally spot him about town giving grief to shit drivers. He was a fairly responsibly driver tbf. And his commentary was funny.
Some years later we had the dirt biker craze, realising nobody could afford fancy cars anymore every cunt was getting a dirt bike and doing the kind of thing you see in America nowadays where they take over roads and do tricks everywhere. This eventually led to the stolen scooter crimewave and the police were given powers to just start smashing everyone with their cars. Now with the two wheelers destroyed it's mostly kept to street racing.
Btw the MX-5 wasn't as popular in the UK because it was referred to as the "hairdresser's car" kek, my obviously gay tutor also had one so maybe it wasn't deserverd

It wasn't that it was liked by gay men, it's just that the car was popular among hairdressers, with a sizable portion of them being gay men. It was seen as a woman or gay man's car because of the people who got in on it first. It's too small, it comes too far to the ground as stock, it doesn't look cool by our standards. If a woman can get in easy and it takes a man effort, it's a woman's car.
The inverse of this is why everyone loved the Skyline or Impreza, because you can just throw yourself in and it's bulky. If it's hard to get in then soz m8, it's just tuned kino and you're retarded for not appreciating it.
