I think this is one of those Drive Jacket situations i.e. wardrobe made specifically for a movie that would look stupid if worn IRL.

Yeah but I was thinking something more nuanced. Perhaps one of those quilted jackets that look like the detachable lining of an army parka.

I believe the jackets were all custom, it’s one old RAF flight jacket with the lacing from another old RAF flight suit adapted to the arms and waist. Looks hecking amazing and I’m incredulous no jackets produced after the film adopted that feature. Making your own is a costly proposition, the flight suit is getting pretty rare and you’ll have to fight off prop makers looking to create replica Nostromo crew jackets for them.

I always wanted a jacket in that vein or along the lines of picrel. Perhaps something inspired by the space suits from 2001: a space oddisey. A retrofuturistic flair but not so larpy.
Maybe my best bet would be one of those quilted jackets that looknlike the detachable lining of M65 parkas and customizing them in some way.

God the costuming was hecking great. If you look at flight suits there was definite inspiration from the pockets, but the knee pads make sense because he’s a maintenance worker, and up top it’s just whatever shirt he brought with him, and a jacket for warmth. It’s all functional.
