I ordered one of these in the red paint though, so far I haven't seen any complaints at all regarding mechanical integrity and the features of the car.
Any other anons here own this mazda? is the hatchback turbo btw, also is it possible to slap some mods or maybe get more power from it?
you could probably add more power, but I don't see why you would do that to a daily
>so far I haven't seen any complaints at all regarding mechanical integrity and the features of the car.
Torsion beam
How bad is this issue?
It isn't an issue. A lot of armchair racers like to parrot that the nu-3 uses meme suspension torsion beam rear but if you drive normally it never is noticeable. If you push it to the limit, Corksport makes a rear anti-sway bar that is BEEFY. It's the largest one I've seen, and I own multiple trucks/4x4s, and that coupled with their front strut tower brace really helps the car not wash nearly at all. In terms of making more power the Mazda3 needs a few things to actually see dyno-able results:
A new turbo inlet port
The ram air intake / heat shield
Wider catback exhaust
JB4 tuner
Even with all that ($2-3K worth of mods) people on the gen 4 forums have posted their results and usually an uptick of maybe 30 horsepower. On premium gas, that's peak output of like maybe ~260HP at the wheels. This car is a torque grenade though and will do well enough at the dragstrip. It eats older cars up obviously, like most new shit does. One of the forum lads runs one that chews up q60s quite consistently with a JB4 tune and the above mods from Corksport.
picrel is mine in soul crystal.
Who sells a replacement turbo inlet port? Also I've read that there should be a true ECU flash tune coming out this year. Here's hoping for that since the JB4 seems meh by reviews I've read.

Lmao, guess I should have looked harder. Thanks anon
When i traded in my mk1 veloster for the mk2 where they upgraded the platform to an independent rear suspension setup I just know it improved the handling of the car dramatically in spirited driving. Espcially over uneven road surfaces. Not as much just driving the car in traffic, but even the occasional pothole ot train track was enough to make the mk1 feel unsettled underneath you.
I imagine the Mazda has larger shocks and beefier tires to compensate for the cost-cutting in the suspension, making it even more negligible, except when you want to aimlessly drive through the country backroads on a saturday morning.
these type of LULZ posters have never driven on a track and absolutely cant tell the difference in suspension architectures just by driving a car. Theyre all benchracers perpetuating memes.
Its a good car OP, youre not buying a racecar and any minor niggles you find down the road, if any, can be remedied by the aftermarket.
you absolutely can tell when a car has a torsion beam. If one wheel eats a pothole the whole car feels it. Its why IRS is so prevalent and torsion beams are economy tier. For a car that costs almost 30k it shouldn't share shit with a 20k hyundai.
If you live in a poor ass area with that many potholes you should be buying a torsion beam economy car so you can save up to move away from there
No dude thats just an example. Mazda wants to pride itself as an upper market car but they're using something that delivers a ton of vibration and road noise to the cabin. It's why independent suspension is so important. They cheaped despite it being that expensive. The car just rides like shit because it doesn't have the isolation you expect from an upper market car.
The upmarket switch has been a long transition. Also if you say the car rides like shit you just admit you haven't driven one.
I did drive it. Then I went and bought a Hyundai, which drives better. Deal with it.
Its hard for a car to drive better when it's in the shop with a blown engine every week
Sure, if that were reality. Might as well reference the Mazda rusting out of existence too.
Atleast you can drive a rusty car 🙂
But go on and defend your asiatic shitbox
Not when the frame is rusting. Fucking weeb.
Mazda hasn't had rust issues since the Ford split, what are you on about? How many Mazdas have you owned exactly?
I'm talking to the namefag not you
I'll bully asiaticbox drivers whenever I please, homosexual.
Rent free.
You still got btfo retard.
I think my only bitch is the torsion beam rear end.
Mazda officially said that they chose torsion beam because they found that with proper tune the torsion beam can offer comfortable driving experience, while having significantly less amount of bushings. People hate torsion beam because its most common on bad cars, falsely making people think that torsion beam is inherently bad.
I own a 22 turbo sedan. I've put 10k miles on it and have owned it for 5(?) Months now. There was a couple assembly issues from the new mexico plant, but nothing serious and it was repaired without fuss from the dealer.
As for the actual driving experience it is really nice for the price. The torsion beam rear is hardly a noticeable downside to me. It is very comfy and has good power behind it. I used a dragy while street driving and was able to get a solid consistent six second zero to sixty from it. Car and driver reported a 5.6 second 0-60 from it.
I live in snow territory and it does very well on the snoe for what it is. I'm able to lead the way pretty well through snow. I've actually managed to habe some fun doing some snow drifting because the awd system is willing to put of plenty power to the rear.
The infotainment was one of the big selling points to me, but it is subjective whether you prefer tablets or integrated buttons and knobs.
I wish it had a manual option, but the auto is a good auto. I drive it in manual mode 24/7 and it works really well.
Driving at night is great because you can eliminate almost all the light in the cabin. The screen can be turned off and the dash lights dimmed really low.
Minor complaints I have:
I'd prefer steering a bit more responsive. I drive pretty aggressive though so that is preference
The driver fatigue system tends to be over cautious from my experience.
Backup cam is nothing too fancy. Not really my complaint but it may bother you more. It is on par with with others in its class though.
I know corksport has mods out for the new 3. I've been looking at getting some, but my project car is my current money/time pit.
Overall 9/10 car for price and 7/10 overall.
Cars I've driven for reference:
17 Chevy tahoe
08 Jeep liberty
?? Jeep renegade
08? Honda accord
19 Toyota corolla
19 VW passat
19 VW golf gti
22 m550i
04 rx8
17? Focus RS
If anyone has any specific questions, I'll answer.
Yours was made in Mexico? My turbo hatch was made in the Hiroshima plant. That's really strange.
Their production is split between Japan and the toyota plant in Mexico. Wish I got a hiroshima plant one, but it's not that big a deal to me.
I just looked it up and it looks like only the sedans are made in Mexico. Looks like all the turbo hatches specifically are made in Japan still.
That would explain the 2k price difference between the sedan and hatchback. Thanks for the extra info.
>Any other anons here own this mazda?
nope, you're the only one.
>is it possible to slap some mods or maybe get more power from it?
Nope, it's completely unmodifiable. Can't be changed in any way, sorry.
Thanks for stopping by LULZ
Only experience with Mazda is my dad owning a CX7 a few years back and the engine catching fire randomly at like 75k miles
Ford water pump issue
Only downsides I know of are:
I can't get a beloved manual wirh AWD and the turbo engine sadly.
The back seat sucks to ride in with tiny windows ...
They're somewhat pricy ... but thats pretty much everything anymore.
why oh why would you buy one of these over a wrx
the WRX auto is CVT.
WRX has V8 levels of fuel economy
WRX has high insurance rates
WRX engine reliability is unknown compared to the skyactive turbo which has been used since in almost all of Mazda's lineup since 2016
>the WRX auto is CVT.
umm... get a manual?
>WRX has V8 levels of fuel economy
probably somewhere between a v8 and the mazda
>WRX has high insurance rates
this sounds made up.
>WRX engine reliability is unknown compared to the skyactive turbo which has been used since in almost all of Mazda's lineup since 2016
how much does mazda pay you to post here?
not him but valid on the first point. Manual is the only way with the WRX. High insurance rates, at least in the US, are absolutely a thing with the WRX. They have a reputation among insurance companies because their owners statistical get up to no good in them.
t. mom sells car insurance.
i pay 160 a month with 1k deductibles. i think it's made up.
that's... pretty high. I prepay upfront but I pay just under $600 for 6 months.
yeah that's almost 3X what I pay on a '21 Mazda3 turbo. I'm the only one on the policy.
I pay 90$ for my 21 a month with a 500 deductible full coverage. I consider it expensive because I have a truck that is worth more than the wrx and I only pay 40$ to fully insure that
i'm getting kiked for no reason then.
>WRX engine reliability is unknown compared to the skyactive turbo which has been used since in almost all of Mazda's lineup since 2016
The FA DIT engines have been in service since 2014.
WRX is ugly inside and out and isnt any faster. Also it is more expensive while having a worse quality interior.
>it is more expensive
the 2.5 turbo awd mazda is 4k more than the base wrx
why lie
just realized you said base model, this is comparing the top trim of both with all the driver support
Looking at it now I didnt realize they eliminated the trim level I bought for the 22 model. You used to be able to get the turbo + awd without all the extra cameras, navigation, and other stuff.
Sad that even Mazda is going for the new trend of forcing people into extra tech they don't want. The reason I bought mt mazda was that it was less tech dependant while still being good.
perro caca
you can get a GR86 for the same price as a non-base Mazda3
We're talking about AWD cars here. The only options in this class are the WRX and this.
Golf R?
that's fkn $10K above these cars
Mazda3 AWD: 30k US
Impreza: 19K US
Golf R: 45k US
If that $15k difference doesn't mean anything to me, which one should I buy?
Golf R looks better unlike the Mazda3 hatchback which tries to be a classy sedan from the front but some abomination at the back
Maybe next gen the Mazda3 hatchback will be more like a liftback then it will actually look like what it was envisioned to be in the first place
I would actually buy the Golf R if it wasn't overpriced and if they ditched the stupid capacitive touch buttons.
I own the Mazda 3 turbo
>he thinks gr86s are sold at sticker price
THE GAS TANK IS TOO FUCKING SMALL
websites claim it's 12.7 gallons but the pump only puts in 10.8 in when the low fuel light is on.
it's ok, it's the tradeoff for getting the fastest new crossover in its price range (except the Kona N but that's not AWD and the engine blows up).
