i must implore you to partake in the melodic marvel that is The Smiths' first LP.

i must implore you to partake in the melodic marvel that is The Smiths' first LP.
this musical masterpiece is a true gem of alternative rock, and I declare it the most ground-breaking record of its kind.

the combination of Morrissey's poetic lyrics and Johnny Marr's mesmerizing guitar riffs produces a sound unlike any other.
the raw emotion and melancholic tones that permeate through each track leave a lasting impression on one's soul.
indeed, this album serves as a perfect representation of the angst and disillusionment that plagued the youth of its time.
morrissey's lyrical prowess expresses the feelings of alienation and longing for something more. these themes resonate with a generation that yearned for a voice to represent their emotions.

i urge all music lovers to indulge in the brilliance of The Smiths' first LP. its influence on alternative rock is immeasurable and its impact on the genre is undeniable. this record stands as a testament to the power of music to connect and resonate with the human experience.

REM are about as interesting as your grandmother's fanny flaps. At least the Smiths had the lyrical 'wink', lots of droll English humor on those albums

Morrissey was that fag kid at school who'd flirt obscenely with the straight guys in the hopes of getting violently pummelled, so he could limp home after and masturbate furiously onto the bruises.

still at their peaks REM is musically better and most modest tone wise than the smiths

Is this bait or are you serious?

REM? Go listen to "stand" or "shiny happy people" again.

yes it is serious, even OP, who consider the album to be a masterpiece, admitted that the only thing going musically is Marr's guitar work, which is not even that great to begin with since he is easily a one trick pony
listen to the second half of murmur, it has more variety in instruments, techniques and moods than the smiths's entire discography
I'm yet to find a jangle pop song that sounds like 9-9

Yeah, meat and strangeways are peak smiths. Once Morrrissey stopped trying so hard to be a working class kitchen sink author, their sound improved

Literally half the lyrics on this album are 'inspired' by plays and books, or heavily edited and lifted quotes

Hand in glove and suffer little children are probably the only emotionally honest, autobiographical songs on there (since HIG is about their friendship, according to Marr, and SLC is about the victims of the Moors Murders, a series of child abductions/killings that happened in Morrissey's hometown and scarred him and all the other local kids for life)

The Queen is Dead is their best

      >VERY boring record
it is with great consternation that I read your recent message upon the image board.
it is lamentable that you find the Smiths' eponymous debut album to be dull, as I must profess that I find it to be quite revolutionary.
one cannot deny the ingenuity of the album's opening track, "Reel Around the Fountain," with its evocative lyrics and haunting melody.
the album also features such seminal tracks as "This Charming Man," which is widely regarded as one of the band's greatest compositions, and "Hand in Glove," which showcases the band's ability to craft infectious pop hooks.
while The Queen is Dead may be regarded by some as the apex of the Smiths' oeuvre,
I must remind you that one should not be swayed by popular opinion or fashionable trends.
the Smiths' self-titled debut album is a work of great originality and artistic merit, and should be celebrated as such.

I do hope that you will reconsider your opinion of this seminal album, and refrain from allowing yourself to be unduly influenced by the opinions of others.

I like this record better cause I always though of it as it's most sincere and punkish
It has a great goth noisy feel and post-punk approach to songwritting. You can still feel the Sex Pistols and Joy Division on the record while being extremely sentimental and pretty

The Smiths best song is Heaven Knows Im Miserable now, first of all
Second, I didn't initially like The Queen is Dead but after getting hooked to one song (I Know Its Over) I kept revisitinf it and it became my fave

the same will happen with the debut. it's not as immediate as some of the others, but it is their best album, especially lyrically.

Hatful of Hollow and The World Won't Listen are compilations as well. However, all the songs are from the same eras. The purpose of Louder Than Bombs was to compile songs which hadn't been released on Sire, so it's schizophrenic in its track listing, doesn't flow particularly well and has two of their worst ever songs in Golden Lights and Oscillate Wildly, as well as the pointless single edit of Hand in Glove. Any or all of which could have been replaced with the following
            >Jeane
            >Wonderful Woman
            >Accept Yourself (B-side version)
