i like mash up music but aphex twin doesnt even sample that much other music. in fact i'm struggling to think of times he even did. maybe some of his breaks?

using a vocal from a sound library is the loosest definition of sampling, so are micro-samples
if you let micro-samples count then any synth with a wave table is essentially sampling
and to further extend on this, anyone playing a specific instrument is stealing in that case
you could argue playing a trumpet is "sampling" because it has a unique timbre
The difference being that you can't learn a trumpet within a day

i've been trained to play piano since i was 5 and then i learned how to make electronic stuff

you can make really shit electronic music in a day in the same way that you can play 3 chord punk rock in a day but if you want to get really good electronic music is a lot more complex and difficult than trumpet
