I kinda wanna go to an anime con next year. I'm shy and awkward as fuck tho, and I'll be on my own. To those who've attended one of these, is it fun? Is it even worth going alone?

Do the girls who go there put out really easily? I have never had the desire to go to one of these because it is ultra cringe bullshit.
>Do the girls who go there put out really easily?
If you're 6', white, and not complete cringe, yes
>not 6'
>5'7
>swarthy white
yeah it never even started for me
A lot of them are prostitutes anon, they put out just fine so long as you pay.
why would prostitutes go to an anime con
Because they either have OnlyFans
or feel the need to be praised by everyone.
animecons are depressing to me. Too many people having the time of their lives + there is nothing of interest for me to buy. Men with a group of friends, couples, people dancing or laughing, hot girls, etc. Makes me ill.
I used to go so I could buy figurines, but after I learnt where to buy legit ones instead of crappy bootlegs to decorate my desktop with, I lost all reason to go to any of these.
>Too many people having the time of their lives
Sounds nice, honestly
Good idea. The con I'll be going to is 10 to midnight for 3 days, there's probably a ton to do.
are you going to ax chibi this weekend?
Went to AX23 on my own this year. Was a decent enough time but it's definitely better with friends. It helps to check the schedule beforehand and plan out your time as best you can. If there's a lot you want to do then you really won't even notice the downtime as much.
Full of trannies, feminists, homosexuals, naggers, white beta male cucks and pedophiles!
i go every year. its a blast. its literally the only time i get to be around people my age and interested in the same stuff as me. i never meet anyone new though, i just spend a lot of money and cant bring myself to talk to people much
Great, you've made me even more excited now. Do you cosplay when you go?
Nah, I'm a leaf
>Do you cosplay when you go?
i did before pandemic when i was really into voltron (i still am) its a lot of fun plus it gives you an easy in to talk to girls. Especially if youre in a female dominated fandom its all there for you on a silver platter. i was always too meek to show much interest but i think now that ive grown some i can do better next time. i just gotta find a new show to get into that has fan meetups... which sucks because noting new is interesting to me lil
>nothing new is interesting to m
I like some newer ones but there's not as many guys to pick from. Might have to pick something older.
>leaf
>interested in anime cons
there's a /cgl/ discord for leafs if you're interested. /cgl/ thread 10871032
the purpose of anime conventions is to give women attention
holy
I wouldn't buy any merch. I don't like having decoration and stuff. I just wanna see the panels, cosplay, and check out the crazy shit they have like a maid cafe, some concerts too.
lol. Having a good cosplay probably does help a lot for that.
Merch isn't worth buying at a convention, but it is a good idea to walk through the dealers room to figure out what you want to buy at a better price when you get home.
>is it fun?
No, not to me at least. You're basically paying a ticket to get access to a bunch of stands selling overpriced goodies and Japanese products. That's it. Sure there are some free animations but overall it's just a large anime market.
>Is it even worth going alone?
If you just wanna buy some anime goodies and go home then why not. If you wanna wander around and you're not an extravert, you'll feel lonely and depressed from seeing all the friend groups around you having fun.
I went to one once, also by myself. I had fun. I didn't talk to anyone, I didn't buy anything, and most of the panels were of little interest, but I still had fun. Might have just been the novelty of it, it was the first time in my life I've done something "social" like that.
>Work for a local anime expo as a volunteer
>Keep seeing an incel with some anime shirt, long black hair, and glasses
>Just walking around aimlessly looking at stuff
>Not really talking to anyone
>Speaks to me when he sees I'm alone just watching an empty booth while the presenter is giving a speech
>He's awkward as fuck even when it's just a fellow fucking nerd loser
>Keep seeing him and just feel embarrassed that he spent like $50.00 to prove to himself how socially isolated he is
Don't fucking do it unless you have friends or you're a huge extrovert. The only guy I saw who could maybe pull off being shy and awkward had a 10/10 Shield Hero cosplay, so he got attention and love for the costume.
What did he talk to you about?
I have no idea. Something innocuous like "hey, how's it going" Think he only spoke to me because he felt uncomfortable since I made eye contact with him. I just acted like an employee with my customer service voice and asked if he was enjoying himself. Even though I could tell he was a loser, that didn't mean I wanted to be his friend. I only went to the convention on the desperate and pointless effort to attract the attention of a woman.
>Is it even worth going alone?
Nope. You'll be bored as shit so you better make some friends or else all is futile.
If you don't have anybody to go with, the best second option you have is MEET somebody at the convention, but of course, if you are shy, it will be really difficult.
So, if you wanna go, take in mind that you'll probably just be kinda like, going from one stand to other to see what they have. I went to a local Anime convention a year ago and i did exactly that.
So, just go and buy something you like, AND, also check out the independent artists; you may like something that isn't overpriced
Meeting people at a con sounds fun, but yeah it's most likely impossible for me.
Also I don't actually know what exactly the artists sell, I figure it's mostly posters and figurines. But maybe I will get something if it's actually useable.
> Also I don't actually know what exactly the artists sell, I figure it's mostly posters and figurines. But maybe I will get something if it's actually useable.
They basically sell drawings, posters like you said, but i don't think they have figurines, (Unless we are talking about something like a vtuber agency; which in that case they may sell some figures)
About usability, you'll probably have a hard time finding something that actually has a function that isnt putting it on a desk and forget about it, THAT SAID, maybe you would like to have a dakimakura or maybe some shoes?? I've seen those being selled on conventions.
I used to have a dakimakura when I was a teen. I can't go back to those lol. Shoes might be neat though.
If you're shy and awkward it's a much better idea to volunteer to staff the event. You'll work half the event and have a free pass for the rest. Bigger events run by for-profit companies also have to pay you an hourly wage.
You'll have that automatic camaraderie with the other event staff, which is a good starting point. You'll be guaranteed to have something in common with every other person wearing a staff badge. Those connections you make are a hell of a lot more likely to last after the event too.
Absolute worst case you come out ahead around $150 from wages and don't have to spend of your own money on it.
Huh... That's a good idea, sounds really cool and fun. But looking at the volunteer positions is overwhelming me. I don't know which would be the best one for an autist. I mean I work as a cashier but it's such basic customer service. These seem more interpersonal.
There's always a need for crowd control and badge checkers. Basically just the people who tell people they can't block the walkways to take photo shoots. I know that probably sounds more confrontational than you'd like, but you've got authority. People will move along to not cause a scene.
There's also usually free play gaming and manga rooms where you just collect someone's ID and hand them out whatever game/manga they're checking out.
They're good about finding placement for folks. It's an anime convention. There's gonna be plenty of socially weird people. They understand a lot more than any other org.
Thanks for the explanation. They have spots for selling food and merch, seems pretty in line with what I do. Might not be bad.
Are you a leaf too lol
yeah I love in Toronto
I used to go but I stopped cause I just ended up smoking outside the whole time and sometimes having one off conversations
ill go with you anon!
No thanks. Those cons are filled with fans of surface-level normalgruel, as well as overpriced merch and shitty prize figures. My people are only on the net.
You don't think it's cool to be surrounded by people that into the same stuff as you? Every single person there has at least one interest they have in common. I mean yeah I'm sure lots of them are surface level fans but I still think it's neat.
That's cool. I dunno how many of them are in my city but I'll check it out.
No. It would be cool if there was a Seinencon or something similar to separate the genres, but I'd rather die than be surrounded by One Piece and Chainsaw Man cosplays. Without friends there is nothing to do. Most people at conventions are looking to mind their own business.
I've been to a bunch of comic cons and anime cons from 18-28 and honestly no. It's a bunch of people selling junk and a bunch of vulnerable narcissists cosplaying for attention/validation. It's not really worth it. I kept thinking it would be fun or maybe I'd meet somebody cool but it's the same bullshit every time.
I don't think there's anything wrong with cosplaying for attention, that's probably half the fun. You didn't enjoy the panels or anything?
Anime cons no, but I go to my local comic con every year with friends.
It all depends on what you want to get out it, cons have voice actors/celebrities that you can pay for photo ops/autographs and there are booths that sell unique merch.
I wouldn't recommend if you're going on your own unless you're desperate to meet a specific person or get some overpriced merch. It's really just supposed to be a fun time with friends.
don't eat the food there i sat on the toilet half the convention
AX was bad, worst year was 2019. 22 was decent, but only because they put a limit on how many people will go at the time. Also you needed your COVID shots because LA required it. Didn't go this year because money and a move.
It's a decent time if you got money to burn and have shows you're interested in or want merch. Don't go alone, especially around the significantly older chinks and hood nignogs when you're outside the place. They have a target on weak-willed people. Also don't drive/rent a Prius in LA since they're a target for theives to steal the caddy.
