I mean, those beeps and boops form melodies on a series of different tracks that are mostly very atmospheric, with different tones and sound textures. But I guess if you don't like it then don't push it.

Maybe you would like something 808 State instead? Listen to Ninety if you want to get the style and sound from that era, or Don Solaris if you want something that sounds more timeless and polished.

Insanely based. Listen to this track invent the entire STREETS OF RAGE 2 soundtrack.

I feel like if you can't get into his older material you should try the newer stuff. Syro was really good and cohesive. I play it on repeat a lot.

I don't remember how it was received on LULZ. Probably hated like everything else. Syro did win for best techno album of the year though when it came out.

tbh a lot of the old analog hardware sounds feel pretty dated at this point, i mean tons of it is like 30 years old. there's plenty of modern idm that you might enjoy more, but it's good to listen to the pioneers and respect what they did at the time

      >tbh a lot of the old analog hardware sounds feel pretty dated at this point
      >dated
if you're not listening to electronic music made from 6 months ago then you're listening to dated music ... that's how fast the turnover is in this genre.
if you enjoy the sound of vintage hardware then who gives a fuck if it's "dated". this obsession with constantly being on the cutting edge of the new-new is stupid and antithetical to the appreciation of unrestricted creative expression (which is timeless.)

not really. there's plenty of older electronic stuff that doesn't feel as dated as hearing some basic 5 note melody on a fucking tb303.

circa 1992, this was as advanced as it got ... it's all relative anon.
Besides –– SAW 85-92 was always more about being a comfy listen than wowing you with it's insane electronical stylings.
Me? I've always thought the CLASSICS comp, the early AFX 'Analogue Bubblebath' material, and the Caustic Window comp wiped the more celebrated Aphex stuff (SAW II, RJD Album, WINDOWLICKER single, etc)

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Aphex Twin. The melody is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of music theory most of the beats will go over a typical listeners's head. There's also Richards nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his productions- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Newbuild by 808, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these sounds, to realise that they're not just nice to listen to- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Aphex Twin truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the depth in Richards existential catchphrase "doo do do doo do do" which itself is a cryptic reference. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Richard D James's genius wit unfolds itself in their headphones. What fools.. how I pity them.

    >I don't get the appeal of rock. It's just a bunch of guitar riffs and basslines and drum beats
Retard. Not saying Aphex Twin is above criticism, but try giving some criticism beyond a 1st grade reading level.

saw8592 deserves its status on the strength of xtal alone (though i've heard it so much this track doesn't inspire anything for me, but the first time i heard was almost magical) and it's undoubtedly its most accessible record, but yeah, ultimately it's just a great primer of what was to come later, though it has a mood of its own.
for some reason, the first time i heard SAW85-92 and SOSW in the late 90's, I felt like they sounded more dated than how they sound today. maybe my brain is just turning into mush.

I don't know why people think that describing things in an idiotically reductive manner is a valid criticism.
    >but it's just different sounds arranged over time
    >it's just various combinations of pitches in a specific sequence
    >it's merely a stored sequence of numbers that represents a continuous time signal
    >it is but a pressure wave that propagates through the air
