Just google the plot, musically if you can get past James’ cringe / Jordan’s keyboard wank there’s some decent prog metal in here.
Falling into infinity is the secret best behind images and words, the latest album was atrocious
There's not really anything to get. I liked them a lot when I was 12-13 but there is nothing to their music besides being prog. some other prog artists work because they also have good songwriting, lyrics etc , Dream Theater has nothing
All of the biggest Dream Theater haters must reference that they were a young age when they listened to it, almost as if to escape some insecurity over being childish. >I--I've grown now! I don't care about listening to this complex music and you shouldn't either you manchild!
Smells like projection
I think its a good Dream Theater album, but definitely where the wank started to creep in more compared to previous albums. Images and Words and Awake are still to this day their best albums, and Falling Into Infinity while not perfect, is unfairly underrated.
I generally feel the 1999-2009 era of DT is still enjoyable, but only if you're actually a fan of their jamming. Otherwise it'll just sound like a lot of songs have needlessly extended runtimes thanks to nonsense wank sections being inserted in.
Mike Mangini era was mostly okay, but played it way too safe, and felt like the band weren't synergising as much, with Mangini in particular not really being able to shine until much later on. Astonishing was the only album that felt unique compared to previous eras, and its easily their worst album to date.
>When Dream and Day Unite
flawed but really great. >Images and Words
peak DT signature album. >Awake
awesome, varied and moody >A Change of Seasons
peak DT: the song >Falling into Infinity
fluff >Scenes from a Memory
masterpiece >Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
cool 1st disc. >Train of Thought
boring nu metal >Octavarium
title track is god tier, the rest is eh. >Systematic Chaos
some cool moments but mostly soulless wank >Black Clouds & Silver Linings
some solid pieces ruined by cringe moments. >A Dramatic Turn of Events
an epic return to form. Images and Words 2 in all but name >Self Titled
inoffensive but unnecessary >The Astonishing
st. anger tier bad. >Distance over Time
somewhat refreshing and fun, Self Titled but done right. >A View from the top of the World
2nd rate Dramatic Turn. still enjoyable.
They're just Prog like Pink Floyd, Yes, The Moody Blues, but with Metallica.
They sound nothing like any of those bands.
Agreed, they sound nothing like Prog mixed with Metal.
>changes the goalposts from band to genre
Nope, I gave some examples, that's all. How far they are influenced by said artists is another question.
retard
We know. Those bands sound good.
>no rush
You had ONE (1) job
Fucking ripoffs.
man, Mike Portnoy returning really changed their style
it's trash. it was trash in 1991, it's trash now.
>It was trash in 1991
Probably because it didn't exist yet
Images and Words is a fuckin masterpiece from 1991 to present though

its for fags who jerk off to chord progressions and guitar solos.

>I&W 2
Fucking so wrong. Build Me Up, Break Me Down is fucking disturbed tier trash.
>one exception in an album of glaring similarities
Pretty sure most people who like ADTOE acknowledges that song as a wildly out of place dud
You could tell the band were listening to Muse at the time of recording Octavarium.
that and U2
The Astonishing is unironically in my top 3 Dream Theater albums. The first time I saw them live was 2004.
