People are insecure about their own music taste and so they seek validation for it in others who are considered to have good taste. Seems pretty simple to me. The complexity is in the fact that music taste evolves and many people who do this actually do have poor taste.

There are some neat instrumental passages on here but jesus these guys take themselves so seriously that it's kind of embarrassing. Like watching that one goth kid in your class recite poetry in front of everybody
