magicians and defeat were both much better in the music box performance. everything else was forgettable aside from stride rite and all the clubs are broken
and every single track is bad. arguing over which turd is best is retarded. stride rite is the only actual standout. deakin needs to ditch the boys for a while and work on more solo material
All the clubs are broken remind me of those songs on Danse Manatee that only last like a minute and its the same few bars of the song repeating for it's entire duration
I never listened to Time Skiffs but I listened to this earlier today because I saw anons talking it up and Time Skiffs must have been fucking awful if people are talking this up as a return to form. They sound like they don't want to make music anymore.
I've been listening to it a lot. For the most part, just absolutely great songs, even though there are 3 glaring missteps. It doesn't sound like a "return to form" to me at all, except for being good again and sounding like they have a reason to make music again. It has a very distinct feeling to it that doesn't sound like anything else they've done.
There's a part in the first half of defeat where they're singing "just grab something take hold" etc with really drawn out vocalisations. THAT was my favorite part of the album. That's what sounded like the classic anco to me
Anyone else thinks that this sounds like Prester John: The album? As if that was the song on TS where they better realized the feel they wanted for this other batch of songs, even if the rest of that record went in several different directions.
Yes it did, even fucking PW had more staying power. Time skiffs had prestor john and strung with everything, every other song was bad/boring/forgettable
They really threw their whole ass into each of these songs. Even the shorter ones like Broke Zodiac feel completely fleshed out. I guess they've been playing these songs live for like 4 years now so it makes sense.
Look at how many songs we've gotten from this setup. Incredible and fruitful era for the boys.
Dragon Slayer
Car Keys
Prester John
Strung with Everything
Walker
Cherokee
Passerby
We Go Back
Royal & Desire
Soul Capturer
Genie's Open
Broke Zodiac
Magicians in Baltimore
Defeat
Gem & I
Stride Rite
All the Clubs are Broken
King's Walk
Rain in Cups
Piggy Knows
Sux Bier Passage
Bridge to Quiet
The Challenge
Genie's Open really unlocked the IIN songs for me back in the bootleg days. If they could make a song this incredible this late in their career then I'm probably missing something in their other current work. Soul Capturer, Magicians, Stride, and Defeat are also good. Panda's recent pop songs are fine but they don't do much for me.
No way it's lower than 8.4 considering they gave Time Skiffs that and this is just its better companion album. 8.7-8.9 sounds about right, doubt they'll give it a 9.
Anyone who says otherwise can suck a fat chode. acab and kings walk keep it from being a perfect 10. Acab because it's amazing, bit way too short and repetitive....kings walk because it's was too long and the worst closer they've done.
Get the fuck out of here that song is great. Definitely better than the overly extended acapella of Kings Walk. Whaddit I Done doesn't deserve the shit it gets.
Centipede Hz was underrated at release and is a good album. Painting With got what it deserved. EPs are fine, idk, I barely listened to them except for Meeting of the Waters. Skiffs/IIN combined are better than all of them and make up the best era since MPP/FBK/Oddsac.
Seriously fuck off with Painting With poptimism, if you think it's your favorite you're probably lying to yourself to be special for liking the worst album. I did the same thing with Danse back in the day.
>Seriously fuck off with Painting With poptimism, if you think it's your favorite you're probably lying to yourself to be special for liking the worst album
you really read a lot into my "no" considering I didn't really like Painting With, retard. MPP, Fall Be Kind, and Centipede Hz all came after Oddsac and are both better than Oddsac by a long shot

NTA but ackshually MPP and FBK came out in 2009 and Oddsac came out in 2010 (unless there's some kind of recording date technicality thing I'm missing). Centipede Hz is better than Oddsac, I agree, but the best of Skiffs and IIN are better than both.

Just admit that PW was your first animal collective album zoomer. It is overhated (its better than TS) but to say its better than centipede hz is retarded

not part of this but chz is actually quite good in hindsight. it's full of poppy bangers front to back. I genuinely think all the hate back then was solely because of pitchfork, maybe also the album cover. it's basically strawberry jam mixed with mpp

People hated it because they either (i) wanted mpp2 or (ii) hated it because anco blew up so they needed to keep hipster cred by hating on it. Every song on centipede hz is good, new town burnout and monkey riches are up there with their best songs

Not true.
It just sucked.

check out the live at 9:30 if you haven't yet. fantastic performances of chz boppers. hearing peacebone into monkey riches really cemented with me how similar those two albums really were
PW is my favorite because it was their best tour and the fan made Repainting Along mogs every single release in their catalog. TS/IIN tour was extremely boring

This is a very smoothbrain statement lol I saw them 3 times on PW tour and while it was better, TS/IIN tour was fuckin awesome. Purple bottle, reverend green, wide eyed, applesauce, in the flowers, BLUSIH, like come on. Magicians is amazing live, defeat was amazing, strung was amazing, so many amazing songs. They always have the best live shows no matter what era it is. The boys simply have the occasional low energy show, I’m betting you just saw one of those for TS tour

>And while it was better
Are you agreeing with me??
I saw TS 3 times. Aside from the classics reimagined in the current era sound and Strung, it's not then that was low energy, it's their new music
literally who
magicians and defeat were both much better in the music box performance. everything else was forgettable aside from stride rite and all the clubs are broken
>all the clubs are broken
you must be kidding
the harmonizing is nice, I like panda's doot doots. if anything that song being a highlight is a testament to just how unmemorable the album is
every single track on the album is better than that one
and every single track is bad. arguing over which turd is best is retarded. stride rite is the only actual standout. deakin needs to ditch the boys for a while and work on more solo material
>every single track is bad
>names two tracks you like
you're illiterate but that's okay nowadays. I'm done bumping your thread
not my thread but you're still a homosexual
stride has great melodies but the lyrics are mostly bad and idk maybe i'm filtered but his stuffs too wordy
The 2021 version of stride was far superior. Check it out if you haven't

Kept this playing on the other tab and it's a damn shame how they fucked up Time Skiffs. This Passerby iteration is great
All the clubs are broken remind me of those songs on Danse Manatee that only last like a minute and its the same few bars of the song repeating for it's entire duration

Not at all, because I like IIN and PJ is mostly meh.
Best album in a long time. Time skiffs sucked
>Time skiffs sucked
Not really
Yes it did, even fucking PW had more staying power. Time skiffs had prestor john and strung with everything, every other song was bad/boring/forgettable
Definitive power ranking:
Royal and Desire
Passer-By
We Go Back
Strung With Everything
Car Keys
Walker
Prester John
Dragon Slayer
Cherokee
This is upside-down. Cherokee mogs all the other tracks.
>Cherokee last
NGMI
ranking things is autistic
This album was absolutely fantastic thinking back. Almost all tracks were good/great.
They really threw their whole ass into each of these songs. Even the shorter ones like Broke Zodiac feel completely fleshed out. I guess they've been playing these songs live for like 4 years now so it makes sense.

It's fine. Just sounds like them improving on stage. Not really a song, more of a curio
>not even release officially
>i am le forgotten

hey zoomie, you know that albums used to be leaked and constantly talked about up until their release date and didnt just disappear after 1 day
So making fun of that is the best option?
it's a critique on the staying power and overall quality of the album. you're just mad
I thought adults grow out of bullying others
There’s been multiple IIN/AnCo threads daily since the leak, retard.
Magicians in baltimore and genies open are 2 of their best songs ever
Genie's Open really unlocked the IIN songs for me back in the bootleg days. If they could make a song this incredible this late in their career then I'm probably missing something in their other current work. Soul Capturer, Magicians, Stride, and Defeat are also good. pitchfork score — over or under 8.7?
who cares
No way it's lower than 8.4 considering they gave Time Skiffs that and this is just its better companion album. 8.7-8.9 sounds about right, doubt they'll give it a 9.
Knowing them, they’ll give it a 7 or a 6
>like someone throwing a plant-based burrito on your windshield
>time skiffs 8.4 BNM
what the hell? I'd give skiffs a 7.4 and this a 7.9
yea they barely give anything above a 9 these days, tho tbh i'm not sure what that came out this year i'd give a 9+
9.1
This is objectively an 8.7
Anyone who says otherwise can suck a fat chode. acab and kings walk keep it from being a perfect 10. Acab because it's amazing, bit way too short and repetitive....kings walk because it's was too long and the worst closer they've done.
Whaddit I Done, Brad exists
Get the fuck out of here that song is great. Definitely better than the overly extended acapella of Kings Walk. Whaddit I Done doesn't deserve the shit it gets.
is it really that good?
RYM? no it's not good
no, but (recency bias maybe) it's prob their best effort since FBK
It's objectively their best effort since at LEAST Oddsac.
no
