He had the most difficult task any President has ever faced with the civil war and I doubted became a dictator in order to keep the country together, so I think he deserves respect for that. But otherwise he accomplished nothing.

I get his status as one of the like mythical presidents up there with Washington and Teddy, but I don’t think he was actually that great

That's completely false on the face of it. Revolutionary war had worse odds, 1812 saw the white house burn. Lincoln was facing a surrounded outnumbered country with no allies and no industry.

He was by far one of the best. He knew what had to be done to preserve the Union. Instituting martial law in select areas was regrettable but necessary to suppress anti-American insurgencies. Suspending habeas corpus was regrettable, but again, necessary to suppress traitorous secessionist/anti-war sentiments.

They lost at the end which is what counts.
When there is a court, it is always after the end of conflict. Look at the Second World War. Germany was attempting victory as well. If they had won, all of their crimes would have been deemed legitimate. But they lost, so they were prosecuted.

in the eyes of fascists/racists/nationalists, etc., which is what the Union essentially was, might makes right. The secession of the south was legal, as per the wording of the Treaty of Paris, the Declaration of Independence, and via the void of a US federal secession process. The states of the south had the legal right to secede. Morally, the deep south was evil, as it was over maintaining slave holder power. The upper south was seceding over the dictatoral actions of Lincoln's war, and we justified.

That's a confederate veteran. While the black confederates were not soldiers, they did occassionally engage in combat against the Yankees, mostly because the Yankees killed anyone wearing grey - regardless of skin color.

The Union was putting black people in concentration camps as per the Confinscation Acts. If we want to use the term "camp slave", the Union had more camp slaves than the confederates - as well as more slave holders, since those same acts made slave holders out of all Americans by proxy.

Deservedly among the best. Preserved the Union, wasn't a great battlefield commander and knew it, thus was shrewd with picking his generals and letting them operate. Knew how to garner mass appeal, and was one of the greater orators to hold office. Trent Affair was nicely done.

Negatives? Habeas Corpus suspension for sure, fricked that one up. Emancipation Proclamation probably could have been better, but eh, it worked. Wasn't the greatest with congress but he didn't really need to be.

Overall, solid. 9/10. Knew what he was doing and kept shit going. Most people saying he wasn't that great are probably contrarians, or just wanted Dixie to win. Any other president and the Civil War might have gone differently.

The best one. My tops 3 are...
    1. Lincoln
    2. Washington
    3. Truman

There is a significant power gap after those three. I should also add, I think William Henry Harrison would have probably been our fourth best if he didn't die from having a stupidly long inauguration speech. Tyler is underrated but wasn't ready, I think. If fourth place matters, I say Teddy Roosevelt.

I don't have much of a political philosophy, and I only base my ratings on how "Based" a president is, and anything can be based, no matter the economics or social policies or anything etc. I don't care about left or right or Democrat or Republican, all I care about is if my gut instinct says you're cringe or based.

So Lincoln? Led the country like a tyrant during the biggest war of its history = Phenomenally based.

LBJ? Was a gigantic chad = Based.

Nixon? Won an impressive election and gave Americans free dialysis but fell due to a Shakespearean plot twist = Based Schizochad.

JFK? Fricked up the Bay of Pigs, handled the missile crisis, got shot in the head = Based.

Washington? I literally don't know a single thing he did as president but he was THE Founding Father = Based.

Wilson? Some people say he ruined the world, with foreign policy and the fed or whatever, but I don't know anything about geopolitical history or economics all I know is he brought the US into the Great War = Based.

Teddy? Imperialist Gigachad Philosopher King who bust trusts and got shot but gave a speech = Turbobased.

FDR? Did the New Deal save capitalism or extend the depression? I don't know nor do I care, he was a cripple who led the country into WW2 = Based.

    contrast that to

Carter? One term failure = cringe

    Hoover? Literally who = gigacringe

Miscegenation occurred before 1865 in this country and the federal government has no bearing on state laws. I think it was already allowed in some northern states before Lincoln became president and it was only widely legalized in the 1960s.

the only reason he's remembered with any kind of fondness is because he got shot. Not even joking. His generals hated him, Winfield Scott hated him, he protected slavery throughout his career, abolitionists hated him, Native Americans hated him, and in 1864 almost half the Union voted to kick him out because of his civil rights violations. He was a dictator who launched a war against the advice of Winfield Scott and all advicers, refused to even talk to southern deligates before Fort Sumter, and was a career railroad lawyer.

    Pros:
    >Saved the Union
    >Instilled a nationalistic conception of America
    >Homestead act
    >Modernized the economy and infrastructure
    >Ended economic dependence on slavery
    >Increased nation's might and prestige
    Cons:
    >Abused execute powers
    >Adopted increasingly radical abolitionist views, which led to his untimely assassination

I'd give him an 8.5/10. Most people either overrate him (normies and libtards) or underrate him (poltards and dixiegays). He's within the five most important presidents, but not within the five greatest. He did a lot of good, yet his aforementioned increasingly radical views on black suffrage and slavery really destroyed any chance of the South becoming truly invested in the American national identity until the 20th century.
