Mind is part of the soul, you can't upload it because it's not material. Nominalism is retarded and has 0 good arguments in it's favor

Then we will embed a demon into the hardware and make sure it sucks the soul out

Now you just have a demon in the hsrdware, good job and soul can't be "sucked out"

yes it can, current hardware can already do it pretty well even without demon support
e.g. TikTok, YouTube, gaming, porn, reddit or even this site can cause addictions

It will only ever be a copy of your mind.
    It won't actually be you.
    You will still experience death.
And there will simply be a chatbot impersonating you.

You would need some kind of mesh over your brain and it would probably take a few days since your brain thinks slowly. With some AI, it could probably ask you the bestest questions ever and even better follow ups to map your consciousness and likeness as some kind of digitized pattern-template.

It might not have access to all your memories, unless you tell it stuff during the upload procedures, but it could speak and behave like you no problem, albeit in a digital space. And it would obviously not be you, it would be a copy.

The only conceivable way of transferring the human consciousness into a digital form (which is what I'd interpret as a perfect "brain upload") that I can think of is more of a takeover than an upload. It would take years, perhaps dozens of years or maybe even your entire life and would require a brain-machine interface so fast and seamless that your mind couldn't distinguish utilizing the machine's memory and processing power from using its own neurons. It would gradually get used to it and form neural connections in a digital environment that emulates the human mind. Eventually the machine becomes an integral part of your brain. Preferably you'd take regular copies of the flesh part of your brain as a backup until the day you die. If the digital part of your brain becomes large enough by that time death of the physical part of your brain would be no different than removing part of your brain during a brain tumor removal surgery - you loose a good chunk of your memories that were stored there but you are still you, the continuity of your consciousness is maintained. Afterwards you can stitch the last copy of your physical brain with the remaining digital part of it to gain back said memories. The neuroplasticity of an undeveloped mind might make assimilating the digital interface a lot easier, it could be a procedure that can only be successful if initiated at a very young age. That's my take on it.

the actual copy/transfer, or the fact that, when the copy/transfer is done, that there is now 2 concurrent and distinct minds? (therefore when the real you die you never "wake up" again in software or in a new body)

How could you do anything but clone a mind using an AGI?

What is the magic mechanism by which your organic consciousness is "uploaded" to a machine?

Gunpowder was invented by Chinese monks who were seeking to create a potion of immortality.

As long as rich people exist, they will pay people to try and solve problems like this. Who knows what they will invent really.

According to legend, the first emperor of China was given mercury as an "immortality potion" which was actually a poison that killed him.

Can't. you would have to make body immortal then jack it in some kind of matrix type of machine and this could simulate it.

This argument requires that consciousness be provably reducible to neuronal function.
I am skeptical of the feasibility of this, though it does seem more and more likely as research continues.

Assuming consciousness is reducible to neuronal activity, we can easily clone a human consciousness in theory. That clone obviously is a "beam me up scotty" facsimile that thinks it's you and acts like you, but isn't you.

A consciousness upload would require us to understand what neurons are responsible for conscious subjective experience and isolate that from memories/everything else in such a way that those signals are "transitioned" from the brain to the machine copy without interrupting them. Think of it as a smooth migration.

In this scenario... I think this is slightly different than the teleporter suicide since we are defining our living subjective experience by signals that are seamlessly moved to the machine. In that sense, the machine-brain is a copy for sure, but the actual experience of consciousness is preserved.

This would either force some horrifying consciousness reboot on your useless meat sack or you'd just be basically brain dead right?

A single typo or code error could cause incalculable suffering in an AGI or artificial consciousness, like the breakdown of a machine or computer program.

Like with Elon's monkeys. When you program apps and make a mistake, you can just close the instance and start again. When you do systems programming, you can crash the whole machine.

If you are attempting to create or interface or clone an organic consciousness, mistakes can cause profound horror.
