What thing? The hub? You know you have to take off the axle nut first right? Then there's 4 bolts to take it off of the spindle right?

All the nuts and bolts are out but the thing is corroded to hell. Pretty sure it's the original so it's got about 215K+ miles on it

Then it's going to be rust welded on. The solution is heat, heat and more heat.

As the other guy said, heat would do it. Spray it to death, try hot wax as well.

Get a butane torch and just heat it with blue fire for like good 5 minutes, good indicator is when metal starts changing color.

Wait a bit, try to loosen, if it doesn't work, heat again.

Rusts biggest enemy in my experience are impacts. If you have impact wrench, hit it with that. If you don't, then put a breaker bar or wrench and keep hitting it with a hammer (or brick)

Rinse repeat (Also that liquid shit to break rust is a meme, shit doesn't get deep enough to actually make a difference)

easiest way is to take the knuckle off and press it out, sounds like you took a moronic shortcut and probably broke a ton of shit

      Ain't got a press

How can I do this without melting the drum brake components?

not sure if same type of hub because wrenchlet but if so go to 12:30 in this video. Basically uses an air hammer to push the spindle out

If you want the cv axle out, then air hammer is 100% the best way to go.
    example here:

though I would suggest a pneumatic over an electric one.

I have a 30 ton press but for axles rusted on like a motherfricker my old demolition hammer has never once let me down with or without heat.

    Slide hammer and heat.

reading this thread has made me significantly appreciate not living in a rust area...last year when I went to change axles, my cv axle on left side needed a little hammering to get it out...my right axle just slipped right out.

Ok Black folk here's the poverty pack technique for removing axle. You remove one of the seat belts and bolt it to the axle and attach the brake drum/disc to the other end and swing the frick out of it like a side hammer.

Hey it's an efficient use of the materials available and it works. I've used it a few times.

I've had to use a tree and a come along to pull an axle out on the trail but the mental image of a seat belt wrapped around a dum with some sperg flailing around the garage has me beat.

Why is the seatbelt-drum guy a sperg and not a genius?
