You don't need 144hz for the majority of games and when you do "need" it, you're going to be playing on lowest settings anyway like the competitive sweat you are
If you are a gamer, get 144Hz.
If you do anything else with your computer, get 4k.
Hope that helps.
what does the high refresh rate actually do though? it just makes things look more life-like? so does a higher resolution lol
Higher resolutions are only good for CAD applications and grand strategy games. High refresh rates reduce input latency, a must for competitive gaming.
This so much. I have a 4k 120hz hdr display and an older 144hz 1080p. For some strange reason games will hold at 120 4k and drop less frames than 144 1080. Frame times are a thing and it causes stuttering and it's actually annoying.

there aren't many 120hz monitors though. I assume you can just set a 144hz monitor to 120hz.
DO NOT BUY A G7.
The user interface is abysmal.
This fucking monitor takes more time displaying the input switch menu than my pc takes to boot.
Even worse: I have a steam deck dock connected to it via displayport. If the deck isn't on, the fucking g7 will believe there's something to show on that port, display a black screen for 10 seconds, locking the interface and then show a "no image found box for 5 second. These two phases will loop eternally until you can press AND SELECT another input source in the 5 SECOND window the box appears in.
My entry level aoc handled the same setup flawlessly.
what do you like more
gaming or relaxing watching tv
144 or 4k
if you do both or game a bit more over tv then get 144hz because you can still watch movies on pirated websites which only offer 1080p as 4k content isn't widely available yet. So, even in general you'll be watching 4k content less
You don't need 144hz for the majority of games and when you do "need" it, you're going to be playing on lowest settings anyway like the competitive sweat you are
For hobby devices I feel are too expensive I just side hustle an hour a day or take on extra job time to make the difference between the price range affordable to you and the range you find expensive. Use the time you would normally be using the device. For a few hundred dollars it shouldn't take long. :^)
All this placebo bullshit.
144hz my ass, your eyes can't even see in 4k and are you telling me that the 144hz gimmick that you heard about on youtube is real?
You can't see any of that crap, it's all a marketing strategy to get you to pay triple for what already is overpriced garbage made in china.
Enjoy your placebo, you dumb frogposter, the chinks are laughing all the way to the bank.
I bought the Gigabyte M32U for $600 flat. 4k, IPS, 144hz, 32", Freesync, and built-in USB-C KVM. That was 2 years ago, there's probably even better stuff out now.
4k is a meme. Use 4K on your TV, not your monitor. 1440p is just fine. You don't need 144 either. 120 is just fine.
My experience with 4K on monitors is that it's fucking tedious to use for anything that is not watching shit or games.
Brainlet. What graphics card do you have that can even run your game at 144 fps anyway? I have a 1440p ultrawide with a 4090 and I only reach 100fps (cap) occasionally. If you're spending all that money to play minecraft then just don't.
I dunno, this chart says Geforce 6800 can hit 70 at 1200p, so at 4K, maybe GTX 1060 will manage to hit 144?
That's not how it works at all and it's very game heavy. 4K is a hell of a lot different than 1440p ultrawide which is very different from normal 1440p. We're not even talking about OP's CPU either it's just not feasible. 4K is a meme designed to get you spend more money on hardware.
I was at my friend's, he got himself a 144hz monitor. I've never seen one. My whole life I'd only seen 60hz. I was always sure that after my first 144hz experience I would never want to go back. WRONG. It was nothing mind-blowing. resolution>hz, even in gaming
Been using two of these side by side for a several months now. Love the slim bezel design when they are next to each other. For me, this is the perfect combination of size, resolution, and refresh rate.
https://pixiogaming.com/products/px275c-prime
You don't *need* 120hz (144hz is basically the same). It does feel a lot smoother than 60, but that's about it. Most of the time when you're not gaming, you're staring at static stuff or stuff at or below 60fps anyways.
About resolution: in my opinion, for desktop use, something about 100dpi is best. So, 24 inch 1080p, 27 inch 1440p, or around 40 inches on a 4k display. Everything more is massive diminishing returns. In any case, don't go for 4k on 24 or 27 inch, that's stupid. If you go for 32 or 36 or something, it's debatable, as its the next step up from 1440p.
>not smrt enough to make selections on their own
>not rich enough to eat the price of their uninformed mistakes
As it should be.
INFORM ME
If your priority is gaming -> 144Hz
If it’s media/arts/productivity etc -> 4k
Or in other words if you are underage: 144Hz. If you’re an adult 4K.
what does the high refresh rate actually do though? it just makes things look more life-like? so does a higher resolution lol
Play a game capped at 2/3 of your max fps. Play it normally. Thats how the difference feels.
>run minecrap @ 1k FPS
>cap FPS to 600
>no difference
How the fuck are you running minecraft on 1k fps? For me, it caps out at ~300 even with gpu to spare.
>optimization mods
>old version of the game
Both 1.8.9 with optifine and 1.16.5 with sodium dont utilize my gpu fully.
Linux.
It’s smoother and more fluid, and yes, the difference is very noticeable, even just doing basic desktop shit.
Higher fps means there's less of a delay between when something happens ingame and when you see it happen.
Higher resolutions are only good for CAD applications and grand strategy games. High refresh rates reduce input latency, a must for competitive gaming.
>4k
>no 120hz+
no thanks I want easy frags on 60hz shitters
Nope. For gaming go for 120 or 240Hz. Devs are lazy as fuck so games run better at any refresh rate that is multiple of 30.
This so much. I have a 4k 120hz hdr display and an older 144hz 1080p. For some strange reason games will hold at 120 4k and drop less frames than 144 1080. Frame times are a thing and it causes stuttering and it's actually annoying.
Some engines like unity have a weird camera calculation preset that make games look like garbage if not run at a specific fps.
there aren't many 120hz monitors though. I assume you can just set a 144hz monitor to 120hz.
Source: My magic 8-ball.
1080p@60hz is literally all you need. At a push 1080p@120hz, but then you're going into consoooomer territory.
Consooming is 4k 144 because even a 4090 would struggle in a lot of games.
1440 144 is the new 1080 @ 60
2k 160hz monitors are literally 250-300 bucks. you are a destitute retard who shouldn't be allowed online in the first place.
240hz 1440p
Seconding this.
G7 or G9
DO NOT BUY A G7.

tv programs are filmed in 23 or 60 fps max.
1440p 120 hz. Perfect combo OP
>4K 144HZ IS TOO FUCKING EXPENSIVE
You have good options at $600
>good options
>TN panels
IPS
You don't need either
wage slavin
You don't need 144hz for the majority of games and when you do "need" it, you're going to be playing on lowest settings anyway like the competitive sweat you are
>WANT
I want to fuck sydney sweeney but I am reading your bullshit post instead
>4K 144HZ IS TOO FUCKING EXPENSIVE
How poor are you that $500 is life-changing money?
>he wants to consoom but can't even afford best thing
Stick to 1080p chump. 2nd best is a fancy word for loser
4k on the desktop is still low-dpi, so just get 1440p144
> games
144
> work
4K
It's that simple.
For hobby devices I feel are too expensive I just side hustle an hour a day or take on extra job time to make the difference between the price range affordable to you and the range you find expensive. Use the time you would normally be using the device. For a few hundred dollars it shouldn't take long. :^)
Try killing yourself for being a consumer whore who buys things to fit in instead of buying them to fit your needs.
why not 4k 120hz? That's a ton more accessible these days. I got a smart tv that has that feature.
All this placebo bullshit.
144hz my ass, your eyes can't even see in 4k and are you telling me that the 144hz gimmick that you heard about on youtube is real?

Get a temp job for a couple weekends.
If you are a gamer, get 144Hz.
If you do anything else with your computer, get 4k.
Hope that helps.
1080p 60hz
>t. 1280x1024 75hz

I'm going to be 100% honest OP. 4K/144 is literally the endgame. You will never give a shit about upgrading again.
>4K 144HZ IS TOO FUCKING EXPENSIVE BUT I WANT BOTH
Then save more money and buy it in a few months.
4k is a meme. Use 4K on your TV, not your monitor. 1440p is just fine. You don't need 144 either. 120 is just fine.
My experience with 4K on monitors is that it's fucking tedious to use for anything that is not watching shit or games.
>500€ is too expensive
If you can’t afford a decent monitor, maybe dial down your expectations.
why would you need more than 1366x768? just go with 144hz.
Brainlet. What graphics card do you have that can even run your game at 144 fps anyway? I have a 1440p ultrawide with a 4090 and I only reach 100fps (cap) occasionally. If you're spending all that money to play minecraft then just don't.

I'm spending to to play Honey Select 2.
Then switch to Koikatsu VR instead.

4K with scaling will make text much nicer to look at. If you're doing a lot of reading on your computer, go with that.
Desires are root cause of suffering, OP.
Take the Buddhism pill to overcome this ephermeral samsara.
Amitabha.
2k 120hz 125fps is a cheatcode irl, thats why they push 4k 144+hz meme
>HOW THE FUCK DO I DECIDE BETWEEN 4K AND 144HZ? 4K 144HZ IS TOO FUCKING EXPENSIVE BUT I WANT BOTH. WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO?
why do you want them? to do what? watch shitty Marvel movies or play shitty games?
I was at my friend's, he got himself a 144hz monitor. I've never seen one. My whole life I'd only seen 60hz. I was always sure that after my first 144hz experience I would never want to go back. WRONG. It was nothing mind-blowing. resolution>hz, even in gaming

stop being poor
You don't need 4k you don't need 144 hz
The MOST YOU NEED is
2k hd
90hz-120hz
You're a fucktard
You don't need 4k because there's barely any 4k content and there's literally no difference between 2k and 4k
You also don't need 144hz unless you're an autistic gayman in which case you should kys anyway
27" 1080p 240hz
You don't *need* 120hz (144hz is basically the same). It does feel a lot smoother than 60, but that's about it. Most of the time when you're not gaming, you're staring at static stuff or stuff at or below 60fps anyways.

7800X3d + 4090 = 190FPS 1% low at 1080p.
190FPS.
and 266FPS AVG. This is all in 25 bloated AAA games, too.
