I'm honestly afraid to drive it dude. It's getting worse... harder to hit higher speeds, RPMs getting higher... I smell burning in my car 🙁

then get it towed to a mechanic. Nothing you can do yourself is gonna fix something like this.

Get it towed. CVT is shitting the bed and will need replaced. Do your fluid services on the new one. No it is not a "lifetime" fluid.

No it is a lifetime fluid. Lifetime of the transmission that is.

subaru still has a fill and drain plug. It's "life time" in that its the life time of the warranty.

How much will it cost 🙁

Several thousand dollars I would think. If you have a competent shop they will be able to find a good remanufactured unit for relatively cheap.

Hey moron, we can't reach through the screen and plug in an OBD for you. Take it to a dealer, autozone, random shop, wherever. They'll tell you how you fricked up.

For 175k miles before a major break down like this caused directly by OP's negligence thats pretty good for a first gen CVT car.

well you bought a car with a failing transmission and the fluid is a serviceable fluid. You can get a new transmission from subaru for like 3000
