how does LULZ feel about them?
I like them and they are a lot better than any other band in their genre, BUT I rarely admit to that because of how gay and cringe the new fanbase is.
what genre would u consider them/similar bands
Aren't they nu-metal?
Well early on its undeniably nu-metal and that element did stay through their career but when they have songs like Be Quiet & Drive, Korea, Passenger etc its clear they are a lot more evolved.
Honestly I think their influences help them, they list bands like Hum, Helmet, Failure as influences and inspirations, all those bands have giant guitar sounds with alt metal influence.
For example, Korea by Deftones is essentially Little Dipper by Hum
Be Quiet and Drive is eerily Hum sounding, to my ears anyway.
check out narrowhead
Damn good rec, I should have thought of them. Gearhead is one of my favorite songs of the year.
While you're at it check out fleshwater too OP
word thanks for the recs, ive been into them heavy lately but i feel like theyre one of those bands where youre not gonna find anything similar thats anywhere as good. also tryna find some shit like basement and superheaven which idk what youd call them maybe post punk?
>Korea by Deftones is essentially Little Dipper by Hum
What are you talking about? These songs are completely different.
Dunno if it was you but an anon recommended Narrow Head when I also asked for similar bands to Deftones. Sound not just like them but basically every 90s alt/indie band smushed into one. It's good stuff.
This. LULZfags used to talk about Deftones back in 2021, anons even have White Pony, Around The Fur or both on their album charts.
They are undeniably good though imho and I don't think I could disagree with them being a great band, it's just that the new fan base is just full of intolerable idiots.
Intolerable yea but you can get pussy from it now so it's not all bad
I liked white pony and adrenaline while growing up. They hold up the best from that era IMO.
Those are some mid tits
>A woman will never look at me this way
why even live?
Dude that’s an 11 year old girl, not a woman. Get a grip.
you keep saying this, tryhard homosexual
it's xochitl gomez from the mcu
I think they're boring now, I thought they were boring back in the early 2000s when I first heard them. Saying that I'm glad zoomoids are finally listening to something not rap centred.
Their just teen-metal, I couldn't really get into them. Every time I play Around the fur I keep thinking that its teen-metal. I do like the instrumentals on some tracks. But the lyrics have me like Wtf is this teen-metal?
i think you meant "they're", esl friend
I believe its their in this instance my internet friend, maybe I'm wrong. Not sure of knowing in this instance. Anyways asides from that I just think of Deftones as teen-metal along with Korn, Rob Zombie, Candlemass and Sabaton.
>I believe its their in this instance my internet friend
ESLs are now so retarded they're insisting they know your language better than you do.
its not, in fact, their buddy; that's the possessive their as in some quality or thing the subject possesses. It would be "they're", as in the contraction for "they are". Maybe you should spend 10 seconds to look up shit you don't know instead of doubling down and looking like a dumbass.
Wrong again, anime poster. The sentence was mentioning teen metal that is just and is also owned by them. Their just teen metal. Might wanna brush up on your own tongue there, senpai ;D
No, he's right, "they're" would work better than "their" because they are "Teen-metal", It's their state of being.
It isn't, it is something they own that is just.
I just think grown adults shouldn't be listening to teen-metal. Its time to grow over it
>"I think grown adults shouldn't listen to "Teen"-metal, it's time to grow out of it."
Your English is bad.
You need to grow over your teen-metal phrase buddy.
I guarantee you are brown
Why do you need to bring racial elements into this? I am a an international citizen, all people are welcome and allowed.
I am closer to yellow than anything else due to chronic jaundice.
Woah, woah. You should be calming down as of now. I think you are only mad at me because you are a listener of teen-metal.
Least angry and autistic LULZner
Music so zoomers can pretend/say they listen to metal just to appear quirky and different to their normalfag friends.
I like all their albums more or less except for Around the Fur. That one's just so basic to me. Saturday Night Wrist is their best one.
Boring, listen to Snot instead.
its crazy how this bands credibility tanked in the past three years all because they're tiktok and spotify-core now
also hum better
stars > be quiet and drive
Would Hum also be considered teen-metal?
ID LIKE YOUR HAIR LONG AND
LAID ONTO THE GROUND
YOUD PREFER AN ASTRONAUT
DOO DOO DOO DOO DOODEEDOO DOO
based fellow hum chad
How is a new generation of fans engaging with a veteran act on their own terms "tanking their credibility"? Like, in what way has this invalidated the artist's work that has existed for decades at this point? This seems like such a strange thing to say, it's like discrediting Starry Night because there are digital replications of it in art textbooks.
Because its just teen-metal at this point
You sound like a loser, my man.
Why are you, a grownup adult, still listening to teen-metal. Don't you think its a bit pedo maybe? Jeffery.
Better than I remember
nu-metal with emo vocals
LULZ isn't allowed to admit they like Tool cause it's wrongthink so instead they obsess over bands like this, Hum, etc, even though they're not nearly as good
what does hum have to do with tool? you can like both. hum did nothing wrong. fuck off.
They're great, I'm just pointing out facts
They were a class B side show when numetal was in vogue. It was the favorite band of no one. And with good reasons.
Now we have a new fanbase of people who dont really like the genre pretending they were always good. Or worse above the genre.
They werent ever good.
And they werent less numetal tham Soad and Slipknot, who barely were numetal and were still grouped with the others.
They've been one of my favourite bands since I was 13 but they and everyone else needs to accept that Saturday Night Wrist is a masterpiece.
>and everyone else needs to accept that Saturday Night Wrist is a masterpiece.
this deeply; zoomies overrate tf out of adrenaline & ATF, when their best albums are ironically the ones they hated producing the most, which is to say self-titled, koi no yokoi, & especially SNW, which is their definitive magnum opus
i really like this album and it is always on my mp3 player. it's nice heavy angsty music
>i really like this album and it is always on my mp3 player. it's nice heavy angsty music
Thats because your just a teen
yeah you wish bro say that to my face bitch
your just a teen to your face bitch
i'm going to fucking steamroll
See, this is your typical teen-metal fan right here. This is why I don't listen to Deftones or ManOWar
i don't listen to manoBORE i listen to jungle rot and high on fire and dua lipa alright i'm a cultured and learned man that likes Deftones and beer and big ol round butts deal with it
rare glimpse into the mind of a tripfag
Thats okay, you just won't be considered an cool adult if you are listening to teen-metal,
your mom says i'm cool
>Nu-metal lost its original negative stigma so hipsters have to come up with a new term to insult it.
Its not just nu-metal specifically, its just there are some bands that you hear and you just know you are listening to teen-metal. Like Sabaton isn't nu-metal but its still crappy teen-metal.
Do people actually consider post-Around the Fur Deftones to be nu metal? I mean, maybe the offhand track like Street Carp or CMND/CTRL but the days of shit like 7 Words and Headup were pretty short-lived.
>Do people actually consider post-Around the Fur Deftones to be nu metal?
I think most people would consider Deftones to be teen-metal
A little bit of nuance goes a long way when trying to brute force a meme. Just saying.
Its a common term. Look it up in the dictionary, Looks like you've been digitally embarrassed.
Cut him some slack, he's a teen-memer.
>Zoomer discovers that a genre name groups bands with different sounds and styles.
What you listen to "grunge" and start comparing them. Yes, deftones is numetal like slipknot, linkin park, limp bizkit, soad and other bands that had little to nothing in common
Sure, but nu-metal's generally associated with an emphasis on rhythm, a distance/absence of solos and some kind of incorporation of hip-hop's techniques and general cadence, and all those bands have some association with those concepts to some degree or another. Hell, Slipknot has a fucking turntablist. I guess Deftones will always have the former points for as long as Stephen's their lead guitarist but they've gone far off that track. They prettified up their sound with so much new wave/dream pop/shoegaze influence, their turntablist has been using synths for almost 20 years now, Stephen sounds more and more like a third rate djent player as time goes on, it's hard to say that grassroots nu metal essence they had is even really expressed anymore.
It's weird cause without Stephen, Chino side-projects haven't been great even though on paper they should be awesome (an epic post-metal album with the guys from Isis, romantic Cure-esque rock with his childhood friend from Far). But also the last couple Deftones albums have been very bland, straight forward albums. I imagine Stephen put his foot down to Chino's artsier tendencies on them and that made for maybe the weakest albums in their discography.
Wtf? Team Sleep is arguably better than most Deftones albums.
Team Sleep is a special case, bc Chino & his homie Todd Wilkerson spent almost a decade casually recording & developing demos before deciding to produce an official album, whereas one gets the impression that he never invests a comparable amount of time or energy into any of his other side projects
I see Gore and Ohms as complete inverses. Gore saw them get as artsy as they ever would with lighter sounds and some good songs came of it, but the production hurts it immensely. It almost sounds unmastered. Ohms, on the other hand, felt to me like a conscious attempt to staple 2010s Deftones and 1990s Deftones together to mixed songwriting results but Date comes in clutch on that production, it SOUNDS great.
They've been a hodgepodge of shoegaze, post-hardcore and post-metal for almost a quarter of a century at this point. But I imagine a lot of people just remember them as that shouty chin beard band from the 90s that had a DJ so they're forever nu-metal.
my favorite band
i've never listened to them btw all i know is this album cover
any oldfags remember how deftones and their fans were looked at?
I'm a zoomer loving their first three albums, Diamond eyes was great too but Koi no Yokan didn't live up to my expectations, only liked a couple songs. Havent listened to gore or ohms yet
S/T, Wrist and Koi are all growers IMO. Probably won't care for Gore, Ohms will be a coin flip, can't figure those fans out.
i saw this thumbnail on the catalog and i thought Oh mintage!! Feet! but then when i made the image full size i saw that the legs were hairy and that they belonged to a man and then i was like Awwwwww mannnnn! Got my hopes up ! LOL.
Any hoo, I don't listen to Deftones.
I really like my prog and fusion and music like that... Not sure if there's much crossover .. Keep on ROCKIN !!
"vocal-centric neo-prog"=chick shit
