You answered your own question. If all of your work is done then that’s all that matters to your employer. They don’t need to know that you have your gaming laptop sitting there too.

This is how it's meant to be. Even at work usually I end up just browinsg LULZ or doing something non productive. I can only stare at mind numbingly boring numbers for so long per day writing code.

I fkn ripped my crucible hardcore char in a t16 map against an Act 4 detonate dead rare who destroyed its own corpse apparently. I'll lay PoE down for a while, I don't enjoy the current league very much, nor the direction the game went into. Compare earlier 3.x expansions with the current stuff and it becomes clear.

I'd rather see the game be more like pre ascendancy tbh. Current game is a mess in terms of balance and mechanics.

I took on a hybrid role as medior data engineer / data analyst. Going to get promoted to business intelligence architect in around 6 months.

CS is nice. Biggest lack I found between my degree and work is that operations are rarely touched on in a degree. They never talk about cloud infrastructure, cloud tooling, api setups, modern business intelligence / analysis tooling, how to actually maintain a large relational database etc. Stuff that you very likely will encounter in a junior or medior programmer role. But CS is still really nice since it lays out a foundation in all the courses you take for knowing how to accomplish tasks with very minimal external tooling and libraries.

I do this. I get a ton of stuff done in a day and then I'm tired the next day and I just stare off into space and only answer chat messages or respond to emails. I still get more work done than a lot of people and I hit all my deadlines so I think it's fine. If I don't have to be in the office all the time I just end up working in big marathon sessions and then have some downtime here and there but it all evens out.

Yes, my NPC colleagues are still puzzled that I rarely want to eat dinner with them and just work. I clock in at 10 and leave at 4 , I work 8 hours per day technically. Wish my hours were 40 instead of 36 because some days I do fuck all and the extra pay would be nice.

        No wonder they shun WFH.

A lot of office jobs boil down to get task done by date X. If you don't get it done by date X please inform us why, and why it is taking longer. It's not just IT that is like this btw, although you see these people brag about it the most.

Is there a fine line to walk between finishing too fast or slowly? Can't be too efficient or detrimental...

I can't speak for US work culture.

Over here you do not want to be too fast. When working from home you can however just get everything done and make it seem you're taking longer to avoid getting more tasks allocated to you. Ideally you want a good balance where you perform slightly above average / expectations.

I do 10 pomodoros a day. A study published in the Journal of Applied Psychology examined the productivity of knowledge workers in a professional services firm. It found that employees were productive for an average of around three hours per workday. The rest of the time was spent on non-work-related activities, such as checking emails, socializing, and other distractions.

A study published in the International Journal of Business Performance Management analyzed the time allocation and productivity of office workers. It found that employees were productive for an average of 2.53 hours per workday, with the remaining time being spent on interruptions, non-work-related tasks, and other unproductive activities.

Set timers and be more productive than most normies whilst jerking off at home.

Yeah it's how I work typically I do something for 45 mins, take a break play a game for like 1-2 hours, check mails and teams then work another 1-2 hours before cruising off.

Apparently this makes me about 2.5-3 times more productive than my predecessor who had this role who was at office every day and somehow didn't get a lot done. My predecessor was apparently also getting paid more than I do right now, so that'll be a fun talk I will have.

The most annoying thing I find about working now that I'm doing it for 2 years is that people always said ''hurr wait till you get a job , that will be much harder than university!". Meanwhile the Information systems bachelor and master had some very tough filter courses and overall the level of work that I was doing was way higher.

Working is easy and way more rewarding in comparison.

I'm hoping this is for my case as well. I dont understand how people can say work is as or more time-consuming than university unless they're in liberal arts or something.
CS classes take up all my time. No weekends. Not much time to play games. Nothing.

Same for me, hard degree but the work can be very easy after. It depends on who you're going to work for, what kind of work etc.

Pay is not directly correlated to difficulty of the job. You can get paid well while you have a relatively easy job. It's more about how well you sell yourself to a future employee.

Do you think when you reflect on this 10, 20 years from now that you'll care you spent some days screwing around? It's based to browse LULZ and play diablo instead of working, but the truly based thing to do is go out and sit in a park and read a book, or hang around at a cafe outside just relaxing on a weekday afternoon. Weekday afternoons are such a chill atmosphere out in public, it's great

I have a separate area for work.
    I'm in a 1 bedroom, 750 square foot apartment.
My living room is 15 feet by 15 feet.
I have my couch, tv, and personal computer on one side of the living room.
Behind my couch, I have my work laptop, desk and office chair.
The physical separation helps keep work and play separate.
Ideally, if I had a 2nd bedroom, I would have that solely for work.

You need to master the art of appearing to do more than you are actually doing. I literally go to the gym three times a week and play video games every day while WFH. Shit is cash. But it is important to occasionally do something like log on in the evening and send out some messages and take care of some tasks so that it looks like you’re working late. Also when you’re fucking around make sure your phone is nearby. I almost got busted one time bc I was getting a happy ending massage from an Asian during work hours. Luckily I heard my phone beeping and was able to have the Asian stop her foot job in time to pick up.
