How did Europeans deal with their diminshed status after the War?

It's still incredible to think about after all this time. Europe, once the centre of Civilisation itself, the continent of great Empires, the origin of the Industrial Revolution, the birthplace of Science and the most beautiful art and literature...

... turned into a mere sphere of influence, a plaything, to be fought and squabbled over, like any other region, no different from Latin America or Southeast Asia. Almost literally torn in two by a vast network of physically terrifying and ugly Soviet border walls and fences.

This, the Warsaw Pact countries had more independence in domestic and foreign policy than western Euro countries have even now.

    >once the centre of Civilisation itself

Europe was never the centre of Civilisation. That belongs to Mesopotamia.

This. Europe become relevant for all but 300 years MAX and suddenly these retards pretend like it was always that way. Imagine if you went back to the 1300's and asked people what the center of civilization was. They'd laugh if you claimed it to be Europe. arabs would tell you that they are by far the most relevant, as would the chinese.

You are literally the first person ITT to mention the idea that it was always that way, this is the definition of a strawman.

      >Europe was never the centre of Civilisation

So around the turn of the 20th century, Europe wasn't the centre of civilisation? Who was?

We still remain the great power, and the most prosperous country in the world, with a great military and political power on a global scale.

USA is in barely in the top 20, let alone top 10 in any quality of life index. There are at least 13 European countries above it

The USA is basically a pancontinental empire where you've got states like Massachusetts and then states like Mississippi. QoL varies massively.

USA mogs all Euro countries except a few meme tax havens in terms of objective, concrete rankings like GDP per capita, personal wealth, home ownership, and so on. The "quality of life" rankings are arbitrary, vague BS with zero actual standards, they're essentially just cope since the hard numbers ALL favor America. The only stat that Euro countries are better at is having lower crime but given current trends that's not going to last very long

That diminshed status coincided with the biggest rise of living standards in the history of Europe, the golden age of the welfare state. That is more important for people than how big your country's empire is on the world map and such.
