Its amazing the brainwashing they had
Anatolia was one of the most richest and populous region of at that time
The byzantine culture and identity was very strong too
So how did the turkics do it ?
They didnt genocide the natives because 99 % of modern turks are actually the same as ancient anatolians
So yeah its really weird how they managed to do it

Colonization and time. Just like Rome tricked Gauls, Hellenes and Iberians into thinking they were Romans or how Spaniards tricked two thirds of a continent into thinking they were Hispanic or even 'Latin'.

      >or how Spaniards tricked two thirds of a continent into thinking they were Hispanic or even 'Latin'
That's not really the same; the large majority of Latin Americans have substantial Iberian ancestry. Their brown ancestors learned Spanish from their white fathers.

I guess it's because they were so mutted by that point after having been the b***hes of so many previous civilisations, it was easy to adapt to a new one and this time it just stuck around.

they were speaking greek for about 1500 to 2000 years

True, but did they consider themselves Greeks? Or was it a situation like present day Ireland where they share a language with their coloniser but still consider themselves ethnically distinct from them? They likely were able to switch so quickly because, deep down, they recognised it wasn't a culture organic to them.

People from all over the empire converted and then migrated en masse to Anatolia and over time started larping as turks. It didn't even take a lot of brainwashing, it just happened naturally

Turkic people were always mixed, even in Central Asia.

Modern Turkey actually does a pretty bad job when it comes to talking about things it should be talking about, both to domestic populaces and foreign. There are ideological and PR shortcomings, which then get taken advantage of by Turkey's own enemies.

I know but turks in turkey are 90 % anatolian

There were a lot of Bulgarians, Crimean Tatars and Circassians/Abazin who migrated to Turkey fleeing genocide and persecution by Russia and Bulgaria between the 19th and 20th century as well.

        Not everyone is Anatolian.

      >Modern Turkey actually does a pretty bad job when it comes to talking about things it should be talking about, both to domestic populaces and foreign
This. The Islamists larp as arabs, nationalists larp as pure 100% Turkic steppe people while they are neither, Ataturk should've atleast tried to connect the nations identity to anatolians, right now you have Turks yelling they wuz mongolians, anyone can larp as a "Turk" for this reason, even arabs, they only fricked up themselves by going all-in on steppe larp.

        This
Ataturk should have launched a hittite/anatolian larp
But he tried doing something like this cause he tought ancient turks were like full white and tried as much as possible as erasing the steppe barbarian image they have elsewhere

Both of you are generalizing, but you do have some shades of truth. You don't need to LARP one direction or the other. Turkey's history in the past few centuries alone is far more diverse than what most people know about. The 1700s to 1900s saw massive migration from neighboring regions into Turkey fleeing persecution and genocide, first from the Russian Empire (and Greece, Bulgaria, Romania) and then from communism.

A million Bulgarians fled to Turkey in the 20th century alone. If Turkey actually talked about the Circassian Genocide committed by Russia in the 1860s, and what the Russians did to the Crimean Khanate between 1770s–1940s, or what the USSR did in the Caucasus the 1940s (or what they did to Kazakhs and Volga Tatars between 1919–1932), or the ethnic-cleansing peoples suffered in the Balkans, then it would be huge wake-up call for both Western narratives and the Muslim World. Instead, Turkey has an aversion to the word "genocide" which gives its enemies all the power, and they wield it and distort it at will.

The Anatolian population during the Byzantines was already fractured and composed of countless smaller ethnicities. The only thing connecting them was speaking Latin/Greek as lingua franca and obeying Eastern Roman authority.

When the Turks came, they not only made them learn Turkish as the new lingua franca but they also destroyed their ethno-religious identity by slowly encouraging them to convert to Islam. This made them even more susceptible for an identity change.

Up until the Late Ottoman era, almost all ethnicities within the empire were well acclimatized to the Common Turkish culture, with only some minoritites clinging on to what was left of their ethnic identity. After WWI and the events that followed with the proclamation of the Turkish Republic and the rise of nationalism, many of these Ottoman Muslims who had still retained some distant memory of their ethnic origins, ultimately identified as Turks alone.

This was a thousand year process.

They were arabized but they also adopted Turkish customs, they're not anatolians though.
