black metal is for hipster lemmings and takes no talent, Power Metal is for high IQ cultured patricians and takes high technical skill therefore by definition like classical music it has a more restricted following.

Some power metal is fairly mainstream but as much as a lot of people love fantasy a lot of people find its themes corny and overbearing. Black metal is the same but it's been around longer and had a breakthrough period power metal never truly had, which is why people tolerate it. Also this.

True, also power metal is much more limited, while there are bands that mix black with other styles like industrial

Black metal is anti modern, there will always be an appeal to that. Power metal is for times of optimism and those are gone

Power metal leaves a lot more room for creativity than black metal does, for better or worse.

Don't know what you're talking about, Sabaton and Powerwolf for example still sell out stadiums and their videos almost always hit views in the millions.

Sure there's less quality Power Metal coming out by sheer numbers when compared to Black Metal for example, but the numbers Power Metal pulls equal or even surpass the ones of all Black Metal bands put together.

Power Metal is much more acessible to your average casual metalfag or even normie, so any given Power Metal band that's half good will pull in a pretty big crowd as opposed to your average good Black Metal band that's likely to remain pretty niche.

normies associate black metal with cooler aesthetics/optics, power metal aesthetics is always cheesy larpy high fantasy shit which a lot of people will never get the appeal of

That's weird I figured normies would love powermetal and be afraid of black metal. For me it's the best of both worlds cradle of filth true satanic blackened powermetal

It's just too cheesy even for normies. Power Metal has a small but loyal following and its mostly in Europe.

Neither genres are doing that well. Most of the big metal fest headliners this summer this summer are death metal and thrash. The Pantera style of groove metal is getting big again too.

If that band is the band keeping power metal alive then the genre just needs to die.
