I don't know much about two step at all but from what I understand a lot of people consider breakbeat to be a precursor to most break and drum loop oriented music, from jungle to breakcore

I hate to be political on LULZ but breakcore at it's inception was outspokenly a representation of leftish angst (just look up Alec Empire). It's not like this with other subgenres of DnB because breakcore was never originally really meant for just grooving but to represent that ANGER. Somehow that ended up attracting lol icon fans and everything else.
