Nor should you. This kind of stuff is just pop science. The universe isn't 4.2 billion years old, or whatever they're saying it is currently. As best I can tell, the universe has no beginning or end. At least that's what I choose to believe. You'll go mad trying to put a true date on the universe's beginning.

Because if we didn't bother with science we'd still be living in mudhuts and having no clue at all how the world works.

Sure but some things will always be beyond human comprehension.

It's a job, like any other job. People pay you to make the number fit what they want.
The ones doing the actual science are the "amatuers" who don't have to worry about toeing the line and the government employed scientists who can't afford to bullshit around.

This guy is right. Only way we can really tell how distant something is in space is if an object with a known distance passes in front of another object. Most stars in space haven't given us opportunities like this to properly measure them so our whole view of space is totally guessing games. "AHH YES THIS IS A DWARF STAR. WHY? BECAUSE LOOK AT ITS COLOR, THAT MEANS ITS X LIGHT YEARS AWAY!!!" Astronomy is moronic.

its when the algorithm started up. then heatdeath is when we crack the code, the algorithm shutsdown. then bangs again, when they start it up again.

The universe was created the moment I was conceived, and will end the moment I pass. I am the only conscious observer.

We don't know anything about how the universe began. But we can use our observations about the universe now to hypothesize how it might have begun.
