>wayland is hot steaming shit on kde
Wrong. I daily drive KDE Plasma on Wayland and it's absolutely fucking great. mpv actually has a titlebar unlike in GNOME. In fact, I think 99% of complaints about Wayland are really about GNOME on Wayland.
Wayland is trash under njudea and I'm not going to have two configs between all my computers, so no, not going to use gayland until shit starts working well for once.
>Stop holding the Linux desktop back and upgrade to Wayland.
I tried. I try every year.
This year I lasted a week. Last year I lasted a day. The previous one I lasted a few hours.
It's slowly getting there, but not not there yet.
My testing has been with Plasma and Sway, as I do not like GNOME.
Currently, I use Xorg with i3.
honestly I would if I knew how to install it. I am still unsure how Desktop Environments, Window Managers, Compositors and Desktop Managers relate to each other and which of them i actually need to have a desktop.
I am sure some LULZ homosexual is gonna seethe and nitpick some minor detail of my answer and make a seething reply, but whatever.
The basic hierarchy is as follows
Window Server > Window Manager/Compositor > Desktop Environment
The Window Server or Windowing System, provides the core framework/protocol/APIs for basic GUI operations, any graphical operation inevitably passes through here.
The Window Manager uses the functions provided by the window server to actually draw and, well... manage a window, what size is the window? is it a floating window? In what coordinates the window is in now? These are all things that a window manager will have to deal with.
Compositors operate on the same level, on X11 you can simply have a window manager with no compositor, but a compositor is required to do things like transparency and v-sync. On Wayland a compositor and a window manager are one and the same.
A Desktop Environment is a collection of tools and software for what is deemed basic computer usage like a text editor, a browser, a file manager and of course that will inevitably include a window manager and the necessary window server to run it, and finally in order to use Wayland you will need to use a desktop environment that supports Wayland like GNOME or KDE or at the very least a window manager like Sway, and on your login manager (SDDM, GDM, etc) you can choose with session you want start, an X11 session or a Wayland session.
Make wayland not cause a million issues on kde plasma and you got a deal
If it doesn't work right on kde plasma then it's not worth using
Kde plasma brings the windows boys to linux, so its essential that it works perfectly on plasma
KDE plasma single handedly grows active usage of linux
Minimalists back the fuck off and get a better computer
Thank you for your fucking understanding
maybe in 3 years when my current nvidia gpu laptop dies and I replace it with an AMD gpu one
it doesn't matter whose fault it is that Wayland runs like shit on Nvidia, I have to deal with the problem rationally either way and that means not using Wayland
>nooooo our steaming pile of shit is really cool >why you holding us back from everyone rolling in shit? >it couldn't possibly be that many long-time experienced users know more than I do!
Unfortunately, some people are really schizophrenic about Wayland.
still runs like shit on nvidia
Gnome Wayland Nvidia has been flawless since over a year. Stop using unemployed rice tard stuff.
>Nvidia still holding back Linux because of superiority complex after literal decades
I would, but Goyvidia only enjoys Xorg it seems!
OP here the right word was downgrade
>Cant run any suckless software
ngmi
wayland is incredible on gnome
wayland is hot steaming shit on kde
eh... now that I think about it everything is hot steaming shit on kde.

nta but I thought Wayland was supposed to be way better on GNOME?
Last KDE version finally made Wayland usable so this isn't true anymore
>forced composition
ping me when thats gone, then i might try it
this. it doesn't affect me because I am not a gamer, but it is an issue
I cant unless I want to use the shitty nouveau driver
Wayland is trash under njudea and I'm not going to have two configs between all my computers, so no, not going to use gayland until shit starts working well for once.
no vrr on gnome 44
some other issues on plasma I'll never get a solution for

Do you use snapshots?
>6 gorilion ms input lag
Is Wayland that bad for games?
Wayland is better for desktop usage, but for gaming xorg is better
honestly I would if I knew how to install it. I am still unsure how Desktop Environments, Window Managers, Compositors and Desktop Managers relate to each other and which of them i actually need to have a desktop.
I'm running Debian on xfce if that helps.
Xfeces doesn't support Wayland

When you implement hardware cursors support nagger
Does anime and child porn come preinstalled on Linux? Can I even use it still if I am an adult heterosexual male that doesn't like Japanese cartoons?
you sound like a huge homosexual so no
>Does anime and child porn come preinstalled on Linux?
No, but it should be.
thankfully you can add these afterwards on amy system rather easily
>Has HRT under product name
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH
I like this new internet meme about wayland being an option ignoring the fact that for you to use it you have to migrate to KDE or GNOME
nobody uses gnome
>but muh obscure tiling WM that no one uses doesn't support Wayland

I'm still waiting for gayland devs to make it compatible with my hardware... waiting... and waiting... no? Then fuck off.

It's still krap on kde even on amd
how
crashes
huh? it doesn't crash on my coommachime
Can wayland still use xclip? I wonder if I'll be able to use my custom screenshot script that runs with flameshot.

I am already using gayland
I upgraded to hyprland on nvidia 2 weeks ago and i haven't encountered a bug yet. I can even game flawlessly, no reason to still be using xorg.
I'm waiting for the KDE/Qt showstoppers to be squared away
you can't even use rustdesk on wayland
5 more years until its usable
