Not for school itself, but during highschool I used to write a periodic story on a blog and my colleagues read it. I even got my first kiss because of that. Is that Clara in the pic btw?

When I was around 12 I had to write a short story for my language class. I wrote like 500 words about something with greek mythology inspiration and was really proud of that. Then my teacher was angry at me kept asking me 'who wrote that for me, because it surely wasn't me.'

Hadn't touched writing stories for almost 10 years after that.

My teacher was always just impressed by how well I could write at such a young age. He used to always make me read it aloud to the class after we had a writing lesson.

I wrote a poem about spring in middle school. Not homework, just wrote it because I wanted to. I was surprised I could actually rhyme the ends and keep the size consistent.

What's wrong with the OPpic girl's ass though? She clearly bent herself 120° instead of 90° like a normal person.

In first year uni in the UK your grades don't count towards the final mark. You just need to get 40% over the year to advance to year 2. My friend and I decided that we would do a coursework essay without reading the book or any supplementary stuff to see what would happen, given that we technically couldn't get below 40% total already. The essay was on Money by Martin Amis and I got a 1st with a 79 overall. It was by far the best mark I ever got and the only 1st. I wouldn't say i'm proud of it exactly

No, I never had to think or put any genuine mental effort into writing anything for school or college, so there was nothing to be proud of. After reading enough of the material to get the gist of it my thought process was then fully dedicated to getting the jargon and the style right, to make the choice of words they'd appreciate, to basically rewrite it

Ever since I left college I've been writing a lot on my own and only for myself, and I realize now how much of a great mental exercise it can be if you allow yourself to be careless with that stuff and just allow your ideas to flow and try to find a new angle on shit, which I assume was the original idea before it became codified with the bureaucratization of learning. Having to do that never bothered me because it was a very mindless and procedural task, but I think if you're proud of ever doing that shit well you're probably an idiot

nothing i was proud of honestly. i wasn't a bad writer, per se, but i only wrote shit to get a good grade. i wrote a lame story about a man and woman going through a divorce from the perspective of a mutual friend of theirs in 9th grade and i got a 6 (equivalent to an A) on it, but it was still not interesting to me. I guess I just had that kind of passionless, detached approach to most of my academic endeavours. I'm a nurse now.

I was proud of it back then and I shudder thinking about it now. And I wouldn't have it any other way, this is the very metric by which I measure my self-growth. Imagine thinking crime and Punishment is anything worthwhile after actually seeing Russians and hearing nogs and heebs make the exact same arguments.

In middle school we once had to write something in class about a time when we had felt betrayed by adults. I don't remember the wording, but this assignment seemed clearly designed to detect abused children (maybe they had someone particular in mind).

So I wrote a few pages about being forced to take naps as an insufferable 3 or 4-yo kid (some of my earliest memories) so my mother could rest a bit (I have 3 siblings...). I took the point of view of a struggling victim forced to do horrible and demeaning things. The teacher read it to the class, half of them laughed, and also shared it with some teachers.

At that time I was usually reading in the back of the class while paying the least amount of attention possible to the teacher, so the attention she gave to my text touched me and surprised me. We had a tacit agreement that she would let me alone in class and I would just get good grades, since the alternative was me being active but extremely annoying student.

I remember that the most intelligent kid in the class had written a very beautiful and thoughtful text about him managing to make dinner as a young kid on a day his single mother was stuck in a remote city.

A story when I was very young where the only other kid who criticised it said I shouldn't say "decapitate" limbs, since I didn't know what "dismember" was, but the teacher and most kids found it amusing.
That, or saying writing a journal entry saying how much 28 Weeks Later "scared the shit out of me" when I was 11 or something, then the student teacher just wrote "language!!!" next to "shit"

In college I wrote a paper that argued against the positive/negative rights dichotomy and my professor wanted to have me publish it he liked it so much, but by the time he told me that I had already mostly disagreed with what I wrote and back then I was very idealistic, not pragmatic at all. I wish I just had swallowed my pride and published it.

On the flipside, earlier that same year in a different philosophy class I wrote a schizo paper that synthesized Hegel with Aristotle's golden mean, a paper that even to this day, 17 years later, I still agree with and find enjoyable to read, yet the professor said nothing of it.
