Should people be imprisoned or murdered for free speech? I get it's hurtful, but swearing and using offensive terms is a harsh reality of freedom. If we outline misgendering someone as a legal offence, what's stopping the government from regulating other forms of foul language, dated terms and eventually even filtering out actual criticism?

      >Just execute anyone who does not conform to my pattern of thought.
What would the inverse of that look like? Straight people murdering LGBTQ plus people they find offensive? How in any way is that a proper solution?

Phobes act like they're persecuted for being bigots because they treat their beliefs about how the world should be both as absolute truths and as core parts of their identity, causing them to treat any thing sin the real world that contradicts their views as a personal attack on the core of their being.

I get the problem, but the inverse can also be applied here. I think both sides should have the right to share their beliefs without the fear of jail time. Keep in mind actions are very different from words.
      >LGBTQ individuals treat their beliefs about how the world should be both as absolute truths and core parts of their identity, causing them to treat any thing in the real world that contradicts their views as a personal attack on their core being.

No, the desire to be free from abuse is not morally equivalent to the desire to abuse.

Your intertwining actions with words. I believe abusive actions should be punished, just like the law. I also think all people should have an equal right to speak openly and freely. That includes all of us. To outlaw speech of any kind would be a travesty. Even people I personally despise like murderers, racists and pedophiles should have the right to speak as they please. Should their actions go unpunished? No! But what they can say is quite different from what they might do. Wishing death upon someone is not killing them, calling a male a female does not make them a female. Is it hurtful? Yes. Is it criminal? I would say no.

No, but there should be some kind of punishment like a penalty fee.

The thing is, though, that jailing those people should in theory be the right choice and could already be set in stone as intentionally misgendering someone could be interpreted as a hate crime.

That said, I don't think that's a good idea since there are a lot of trans people who just don't pass and even I sometimes can't tell the difference, and there's always gonna be an butthole who uses misgendering as a way to get people in jail. I find it unlikely, but not impossible.

      Anonymous

What about people who are xenogenedered or have pronouns that are hard to determine by physical attributes alone? Creating a penalty for missgendering someone could lead to serious legal abuse. If a person changes their gender without telling anyone, would everyone who refers to them as their prior gender be in offence? It's quite easy to weaponize as well, if you constantly changes your gender legally everyone who covers you would be in offence of the law and could be tried in court.

        Anonymous

That's exactly what I was getting at. Jailing people for misgendering is a very extreme measure and it would most likely end up doing more harm than good. It's kinda like communism, an amazing idea in concept but a clusterfrick in practice due to people abusing the system.

Personally, I think xenogenders and neopronouns are moronic anyways, but I don't have anything against the people who use them because at the end of the day I really don't care about what people do with themselves.
