Now that it’s been a few years since the source code to the best operating system has been leaked has anyone done anything with it? Like make a operating system based on every good that xp did but more modern or make improved version of xp that could be used on the modern web. There must be something right? Just look at all the source ports that have come from the Doom engine.
Pretty sure Microsoft would sue anyone who tried into oblivion.
Do it on I2P ezpz
Do it anonymously?
I would be very interested in this. I haven't been keeping up with it but I read the threads when this happened and at that time no one figured out how to compile it
>no one figured out how to compile it
Stop being a retard. People did figure out how to compile it.

deja vu thread
this
I've read the title of this thread at least 6 times in the last few years
Oh, I didn’t know people had asked this question before. I was only thinking that with how bad modern Windows operating systems are and how fiddly and incompatible Linux is there must be a third option. Then I remembered the XP source code leak and wonder if any had built anything with it, something that would bring back the good things about old Windows but in a way that would be able to preform modern tasks.
There was a g project but people were too retarded into making anything (hell they couldn't even compile it) that went into obscurity.
You would think that someone with more skill would give it a shot, this is such a missed opportunity.
XP is close enough that it seems like a reasonable thing you could do, but realistically its too dated to run as a viable OS. The leak did not include SP2 which was where XP became the lean ultra stable rock that everyone remembers it. If something like Windows 7 or Vista leaked you would be far better off because the driver signing issues are already taken care of. Plus as someone already mentioned, Microsoft would sue the shit out of you, hell they already go after ReactOS as is and that is done using clean coding practices that forbid anyone whom has seen the forbidden texts from ever submitting code to the project.
If Windows 7 had leaked then you would definitely have a git spun up in Russia or some other hard to attack legally location and serious effort would manifest to run an open source project on it.
neat idea, but why not just make a kernel extension?
These guys used the leaked code to compile a new acpi driver to allow new cpus to work:
https://msfn.org/board/topic/183464-compiling-acpi-v20-driver-for-windows-xp-sp3-and-windows-2003-sp2-x32x64/
that looks decent, maybe one day I'll be able to stomach using 10 if I have to
Where is the source?

prolly the closest you will get
https://doxygen.reactos.org/files.html
no, and i know that xp clone os i completely forgot the name of went out of their way to not use any
Ironically you can find the source code on github which is owned by microsoft.
