That chart is either calculated wrong or Harleys are legitimately so bad that even after having competitive power/weight they still get mogged in 0-60 and 1/4 mile.

            Anonymous

This idiot thinks power to weight is the only factor when it comes to speed. Like he expects a bike that weighs twice as much to move with the same gear ratios at the same acceleration. He probably thinks a dump truck is faster than a civic.

            Anonymous

Hey cool, literally didn't say that at all. Power/weight is used as a ultra basic benchmark for performance capability. No, it's not everything, but if something is losing terribly despite having a better power/weight, it's pretty shit.

I like the way they sound and that the transmission and engine are separate. I ride just about every day but I don't ride very hard so i don't need to lean 45+ degrees. Not having to frick with valve clearances is also pretty nice. Also thinking about moto guzzi too since valve clearance jobs are so easy.

People that buy Harleys don’t buy them for speed they buy them for the image and largely for nostalgic reasons like their dad or grandfather, someone they idolize, or a favorite cool guy movie character rides or ride one. Sure there’s marketing involved but it really boils down to use case and beyond that it’s an emotional choice. Just like the teenager or 20-something that buys a bike based purely on speed. Ride your own ride my guy

Name one single 600 that you can say the same for. The engine on a Harley is big so that it doesn’t have to be a high-strung buzzbox that needs to be rebuilt every season. Same reason semi trucks have 20L diesels that make less horsepower than a Mustang

how many have you ridden? Reminder: I never claimed that the chopper position (feet forwards + ape hangar) position was the most comfortable, but a regular showroom bike is. Best seats, legs in a comfortable position, and you don’t have to support your upper body with your arms. The reason yuros claim BMW bikes are better tourers is because a ‘moto tour’ in europe is about 30 miles.

I rode this across the country and saw most out of state plate Hardleys on the back of RVs rather than actually being ridden. The cruiser position does not let you easily stand up to take weight off your ass or to go over big bumps. No ass relief = more pit stops.

        Anonymous

You notice a big difference in ride with all that weight back there?

I cranked the preload to the max and it still squatted just a little, thank you el cheapo Yamaha suspension. The biggest difference will come from your passenger moving with you or not, a static load like I had mostly just made the front a touch lighter. The bike actually felt more stable against wind gusts. Didn't notice a difference going over bumps or not other than being a bit nervous about the rack not being able to take the abuse. Over the course of about 12,000 miles I actually did slightly bend it from overloading, but it still works.

I honestly think Harley's look cool but they're made to be magnets for shit bags specifically because of what OP mentioned. Every Harley around me is owned by some white collar type who wants oh so badly to be the bad boy outlaw. They get big ape hanger bars, an exhaust that's frick off loud for no reason, and dress up in what a little kid would think looks cool. I.e. skull bandanas, open face helmets and cop glasses. Even worse are the suburban dads who get together with their golf buddies to get leather vests with patches to pretend they're in a biker gang. risking being lumped into the laughingstock of a group like that always made me weary about getting a Harley.

Like every other American brand, propped up by Boomers "patriotism" as they support companies which couldn't engineer a solution to make power with emissions rules despite everyone else finding a way, even today they can't make the same power with 1300cc as BMW made in the early 80s, and on top of that they rev lower than my fricking Golf which is like 80% of the appeal of a bike

Wearing the "biker" uniform, the "badass" lmma whup yo butt attitude, all about compensating for a lack of a personality, so they have to adopt a manufactured one provided by the H.D. marketing people.
The boomers are the last vanguard of this ethos. The younger generation's have other interests and lifestyles.

That’s a healthy running bike. I’ve posted in other threads about my Dyna FatBob, it’s usual bolt ons and tune right now but it still surprises people how it moves off the line. I’ve taken it to the strip a few times and made some sport bikes look silly off the line and to the 1/8th. I expect nothing further down the track but it’s fun to put a gap on them off the line. You have any problems with it lifting the front wheel? What rpms are you launching and shifting at?

I run the shinko drag radial and it hooks so well on a prepped track that if I leave at more than 2k it just comes straight up. I’d like to take Kruesi’s Dyna tail kit and extend it 4 inches.

Damn that’s sick! I assume since you’re making that kind of power you ditched the belt and went to a chain. Obviously I’m not making near the steam you are, on an OEM Dunlop I’ve launched at like 4k with no slip and I’m pretty sure the front came up for about a half second on a prepped surface of course. I want to try launching wide open but I’d to ride the bike home from the strip lol
