Good Bye Apple...

I'm so fucking done with Apple right now. iTunes doesn't work with Linux (my new favorite operating system) and the Rhythmbox player straight up doesn't even refuse to work, it just messes up my iPods when I try to sync them! Apple is a pain in the fucking ass when it comes to protecting their intellectual property.

Help me find an open-source iPod clone that looks like my good old blue iPod, but is a generic MP3 player. I also need to sell all my old iPods for a reasonable price. I have the following iPods:
- iPod Nano 2nd generation with 4 gigabytes
- iPod Nano 3rd Generation with 8 gigabytes
- iPod Nano 5th generation with 16 Gigabytes
- iPod Nano 6th Generation
- iPod Nano 7th generation
- iPod Mini
- iPod Classic 6th generation with 160 Gigabytes
- iPod Touch 5 with 64

I want to sell all but my 2nd and 5th generation nano, can you find me a reasonable price?

Yeah its pretty much your best option. Don't waste your money on some Chinese mp3 player, you'll have a far better experience using one of your iPods. As far as reselling value, there are already plenty of people selling them, including ones that have already been modified. I don't think you'll be able to get that much out of them cash wise, assuming all of them are used sitting in one of your drawers somewhere.

Thinking rich ppl with nostalgia is going to buy your scraps is just hoarder thinking
The iPods might have a greater fool run however pay attention to ebay/whatever

Wouldn't any ~$300+ android with a sd slot be better for this

If it supports lineageos, great but if not even with wifi off
      >plug in to pc
      >drag drop music into folder
      >sideload open source music apk
      >???
      >profit

        to extend on this
I'm pretty sure since it's android you could even mod it to just go directly to the music app, with or without a lock screen

It depends on if you value a device without any modern connectivity, radios etc. Sure it probably reaches a balance between schizo and self control, but its nice to go into the woods with a pmp that can't distract you.

Also it holds personal value to me to try and keep something old working rather than consooming something new.

Actually yea what am I on that's way better, where did those devices even go? Why did Apple stop making iPods?

Put Rock box on them and then use it like a flash drive, that's how I have my iPod Video and it works great. Its definitely shows its age when quickly skimming through a lossless album. But its got plenty of storage (SD Card) and an upgraded battery that lasts a month.

Then it sounds like you're just making issues for yourself

You think so? I live for piracy.

No, I meant that you're making issues for yourself by not using open firmware on your iPod, and trying to get iTunes and libipod to work correctly on Linux. I don't really care where you get your music.

OK, so you said RockBox is the best option?

I'm actually thinking I'll keep my iPods as regular iPods for a while longer and then sell them when they sell big. In the meantime I'm ordering an MP3 player that looks like my old blue iPod.

I'd pick your 6th gen classic for Rockbox BTW

That's what I was thinking too. I heard that one works best with it.
