My OS just works and doesn't pester me every few days to updoot and reboot. I own my hardware and can use it however I want. I can deploy my OS to any vm or container without needing any serial number or license bullshit. I don't need a microsoft account and don't need to give away any personal information. The problem is that this just brings you back to square one. Canonical is doing that with ubuntu, trying to standardize shit, but cant help themselves with shit like making their ads a part of the core package. Nowhere as egregious as MS/Apple yet, but it doesnt take a seer to see where this is going.

On some level, making your own stuff is always gonna be harder than paying someone to make it for you. But you will have all the control. This is the fundamental dynamic here, regardless of pride/elitism.

It’s this mindset that’s the reason Linux constantly fails. It’s not that freedom is bad, it’s that you’re so scared of anything resembling a usable experience, that you’ll kill or cancel a project before it has a chance to make a difference. You’re pathetic.

Ads are bad. Spying and selling data is inexcusable. I’m not arguing this. What i am arguing is that we need basically something like kde plasma to become the norm on Linux instead of gnome. By over simplification you’ve rendered Linux useless. You need to finish the job you’ve started but you won’t because you’d rather make 20 more useless distributions that all do essentially the same task but some under the hood thing like systemd bugs you so you waste all your talent pissing into the wind instead of making an application worth selling. You could do so much but you’d rather mock others work and fork things and be useless at doing anything worthy of just basic shit.

Or, instead of making that 10th distro, use the time to fix the problems with the first by making utilities. Windows is the best, because of its utilities. By itself it sucks, but there’s so many little programs to do whatever, that it becomes irreplaceable. I don’t need an entire operating system to accomplish a simple task that an app can do anon.

            >It’s this mindset that’s the reason Linux constantly fails.
The reason Linux failed to gain traction beyond server operating systems until recently is lack of money. It's really that simple. Why do you think KDE plasma improved so much? Valve threw money at the German devs. Why do you think Fedora improved somewhat? Because IBM acquired Red Hat Enterprises. Funny thing, I don't see much shilling of Fedora OS any more after the acquisition in 2019.

Anon, you're not very American, are you? Freedom must be exported, but not imported into the country. Bad for business. It's the duality of the thing. Call it hypocrisy, but this is the way of the world. You think those servers on wall street are running windows? I bet you the linux sysadmins get paid a nice commission to maintain it. Then you have such things as DaVinci Resolve, a Hollywood standard software with a free multiplat version, but the paid version is also available for linux which is again, industry standard for them. Aforementioned software came out for macos and linux before it was ported to windows.

Most large companies + governments runs on Windows. If shit goes tits up they can hold Microsoft accountable. Microsoft's infrastructure is vital to the world and they are pretty good at what they do. If they disappeared tomorrow then the world would regress 50 years in terms of tech. Microsoft along with other large companies like Blackrock, JPM etc are essentially arms of the US govt as it stands. Desktop OS's are pretty much a toy/test bed for MS at this point.

You don't need Windows Defender on Linux. No need for an anti-virus substitute either, not even when running potentially malware'd japanese cartoon exes of porn games or fitgirl exes. Meanwhile on Windows you run the risk of defender bricking your system or causing problems, among other malfunctions.

Update methods. You can choose not to update, ever. But if you choose to do so, you can set it up however you want. You can even do offline updates. Or even downgrade updates to previous versions. The freedom to choose > being herded to choose.

If Microsoft deemed it unnecessary they wouldn't argue about removing or keeping it. They would just remove defender. But when you think again about mainstream society making up most of windows users, defender is necessary, M$ at least somewhat understand how retarded their consumers can be downloading under-the-hood-of-a-muslim-girl.avi.exe. Goat fuckers shouldn't be anywhere near a computer, but it's 2023 and you don't want a durka durka bombing headquarters.

Being schizophrenic doesn’t make you automatically smarter. You personally might be smarter but most Linux users are insufferable mentally handicapped pedos. They’re used to being scared all of the time. They’re naturally untrusting because they’re untrustworthy. Then there’s the ones who use it as a power trip or treat it like a religion. The amount of “normal” Linux users I’ve met, i can count on one hand. They tend to use it as a tool for some project rather than a Windows replacement. Which is not the thing people tend to mean when they say “the year of gnu linux”. I know i can’t just judge an os by its users, but it is something to take account of. Especially when people use the word “community” as an argument. Community is what i refer to when i call it a religion.

But when your entire utility is eclipsed by simply being too cumbersome to use consistently even by me an engineer, or other professionals who are very ocd and anal about things, maybe it’s time to evaluate some things.

Or don’t and Linux will fall further into obscurity as the european union makes free software illegal because only the worst of humanity uses it as a tool of destruction instead of a tool to build.

Quite wrong, and it's terrible to make assumptions by smearing ever linux user as a pedo. I'm sure the wall street fat cats would take issue to the label, or don't care about you at all. It's a sign of the times that you believe all your life should be on public display or heh, "friends only", when at the start of the internet children were told never to trust strangers online and never to reveal your identity. Being anonymous and pseudonymous was traditional. Sadly this culture has been lost thanks to the arrival of mobile phones and its culture. You can only find it struggling to exist in certain places of the internet, such as in here. If you truly believed in what you posted, you would post your personal information right now and believe no one would be malicious to you. Again, i never posed to be against privacy. I just said, Linux needs to be usable by the masses. If you took a second to understand what I said, you’d know that. Proof that you’re not that smart. I’d say you have an iq of 160. Good enough to be a Walmart manager at best. The issue with Linux is simply that it’s way too hard to use. It’s annoying and painfully obvious to anyone who isn’t scared of their own shadow. If you used modern windows you’d know what I’m talking about. Linux needs to stop relying on the terminal to do basic tasks. Simple as. It needs a user interface to operate it that’s both straight forward, wysiwyg instead of having 9000 hidden use flags you need to be aware of to get the most out of it. There’s no discovery. There’s no flow of information to the end user. It’s just this constant uphill battle along with friction the entire time. Idk if it’s by design or that the developers are really that incompetent, but changes to the user interface on Linux needs to change.

You implied that by smearing linux users as pedos from your debatable sample of anecdotes. Nowadays if you care for your privacy, the number one accusation is no longer "wut r u, gay?" it's "wtf ur a pedo!" not even a question, but an outright assumption.

                >I just said, Linux needs to be usable by the masses.
Nonsense. The masses should use Windows. We've already seen what it's like when the masses use linux. It's called Android phones, they use linux. Don't say they don't. Linux is a kernel, and google is using it for Android. It's the greatest victory of linux over windows, and also the greatest shame. I don't know, I'm feeling quite free and in control after a little tinkering to remove all telemetry and invasive related stuff.
      >but if you want to tink-
Yeah yeah I know Linux is the designated schizo tinkering OS, but you see, if I take my sweet time to do it on Windows instead, I will be able to reap benefits from a much more potent and robust system.

windows is like an old pair of underwear; worn, fart-torn & blemished by ass-butter. but it fits so naturally, it might as well be a part of your body.

linux is like having gay sex; it feels weird and like you're doing something wrong, but eventually you'll start enjoying it and soon enough you're browsing LULZ with librefox

No, this would be a better analogy:
      >Windows is like having a wife who gives you regular and reliable sex. She also does all of the housework and cooking. She's plain, kinda boring, a bit naggy, and a gossip, but she gets the job done.
      >Linux is like having a wife who looks beautiful in just about any outfit, promises a world of freedom and spontaneity, but she's not that great in bed. There's also some household chores she simply cannot do. Though it's not her fault - she was born disabled. You find yourself doing most of the cooking and what should be her share of the chores, but she does the best she can with what she's got.

Been dual booting for 3 months now (Fedora/Win10).
I've only had to boot back into Windows a few times for files, and doing so opened my eyes to just how incredibly slow Windows is. It takes me about 4 seconds to fully boot into Fedora, open the browser and play a video. It takes me about Three minutes to do the same on Windows.
I've been enjoying the customization and modularity of KDE. I've found tons of useful apps/features the speedup my productivty. And gayming performance is amazingly on par with with my Windows setup. I'm likely going to wipe the Windows drive soon.
But that's just my experience. I can admit that Linux just isn't for some people and might never be.
