Watching the video of his final poetry reading really gave me an appreciation for him. He was not that drunken train wreck people made him out to be; he knew he had to give the audience what they wanted before he could get what he wanted out of them, an honest reaction and something more then blind idol worship. It is a pretty great video, he gives the audience everything they want and they are laughing at the drunk old has been, and then he has them hanging off his every word. Have not really read him yet, just the odd bit here and there, but after watching that poetry reading I was sold and will read him eventually.
He was great at his best and still entertaining at his worst. I've read some of his novels and am currently reading one of his poem collections.
His poems range from introspective and borderline philosophical thoughts of a man who has seen some shit and has lots of regrets to simple descriptions of drunken coffee shits and BIM'ing women of every age.
I read some of his "greatest quotes" and they reminded of me mentally when I was in my early 20s. From this alone I determined he has nothing worth hearing and refuse to read into him further.
>a lot of diamonds, and a lot of mid (but defined the enjambled confessional blog post poem know beating the dead horse with the likes of Dalit Kaur) >solid short stories >bloated expanded short story novels >entertaining poetry readings >Together with Burroughs and his beloved Fante, the only Beats worth preserving before it went full Boomer
Sorting through the poems would be a non-starter outside of the first couple releases, but the short stories are solid. He was much better read than it might appear with the garrulous lush affectation.
Read Post Office as a kid but never finished it. I just remember him raping that lady
Also iirc there used to be a tripfag on LULZ named Bullkowski who was allegedly conceived from a victim of a Bukowski raping. I wonder how that guy is doing

Damn, that's some funny shit
He's so fucking bad it's UNREAL. You can't even parody it, it's just retarded miserablist ramblings of zero depth or insight or creativity, pointlessly broken up into lines so it's "poetry" instead of "pants-shitting baloney". You'd think a guy who wrote 500 "poems" a day would accidentally say something that wasn't tedious and dumb, but his talent for wasting the reader's time never once failed him.
Read all his shit except hollywood, he was my first hero and my intro to lit. Absolutely love him and glad to see him getting praise here. Have seen him slandered so much on this board.

Wrote one book over and over again but it's quite enjoyable book.
I read Post Office (well, I listened to it) and loved it.

Fuck off Rupi
>miserablist
He's not a miserablist though. He is thoroughly life-affirming. He really woudln't be as popular otherwise.

He's got some great lines
